I’m north of Detroit, north of the border in a small market, I’ve never encountered hidden tips (1069 deliveries). But I’ve been asked to pickup orders from Home Depot once in a while. Which I refused because I drive a Mini Cooper ( what’s the order? a 8 foot 2x4 or a box of nails?) I’ve been offered two orders from a craft store and once from Walmart. I’ve refused because I don’t know what it is. I excepted a $20 dollar from petco which was actually 5 orders for $4 a piece I did a lot cursing and won’t except anything but restaurant delivers. The petco delivery had two small bails of hay for rabbits. A bag of live crickets and expensive cat and dog food, it took most of my car space. I love the idea of doordash expanding but I want to know what I’m getting into before I accept a order.

I think there should be a disclaimer for orders with anything that is alive. Also, there should also be an alert when an order is presented to a dasher when the delivery contains an item weighing 25 pounds or more. I had a 38 pound dog food bag I had to deliver. I’m a small female with a bad back and a bad shoulder, and the bag was on the bottom shelf, plus I had to carry it up the walkway which was probably 20 stairs. I was hurting the next day. I’ve seen other dashers out that…there is just no way they could physically carry this bag. Most places only require you to be able to carry up to 25lbs. “Oversized item” would have been a nice warning so I could have set up my car better to get the bag in and out.

I have collected actual data about the offers and other factors as I do my deliveries during the day. You are right about some of what you are talking about. You are right about the 6.25 order in some markets but you may not realize why you're right. In other markets the minimum is 6.50 or 6.75. You're also wrong about the orders with larger amounts on it going longer distances. Hidden tips are still on these.

Makes sense, I usually do shop a deliver orders since they have full pay and have decent milage as well. My market is filled with shop and deliver so it’s good for me, but now that holiday season is over I attempted to deliver hot food and I did this and I made 140 in 3 hours. You gotta take the random pay random milage orders and those usually come with tips. Like you said those 4 mile 6.50 dollar orders usually pay out to 9-12 dollars. Good vid !

I noticed this when I started driving for DD in 2020. I rarely see any hidden tips. Customer tips for DD are very low in my area which is the largest county in my state and the last few months I can't even work unless I schedule a time! The whole reason I started driving for DD is because I could drive when I was able to. I am a single parent of a special needs son and am not able to work at scheduled times. So I have to find another company that lets me work whenever I can and I don't have to be in a certain area to get deliveries either with this other company. Much less stress and better pay doing the same job!

@bently I want to see every restaurant dd services on my map in real-time, so when I take a long-distance order that is out of my normal area or somewhere that has little to no stores to get other orders from i know how to plan accordingly. I am not going to keep checking the consumer side with no real location indication. a simple red dot over the store's address would be sufficient and may work better than only the 5 hot spots in my area of phoenix that half the time are dead anyways.

I never saw a hidden tip on any order when the dollars amount isn't at least 1.5× the miles. Otherwise I agree that now they tend to hide less of the tip and show better dollars to miles ratios. Also it's almost impossible to predict a hidden tip until you see what's in the order. My rule is to never accept an order based on the hope for a hidden tip.

Great advice! I am just starting, and I use the the directions thing all the time, but this doesn't allow the full delivery message to come up and I can't see what's on the order unless I clear the map out. I'm getting the hang of it but when I'm on the freeway and an order pops up it's not easy clearing out the map. I wasn't even checking the distance or miles or items but only looking at the total payout, so this is helping a lot, thank you. I have been making pretty consistently 100$/5hours though, but I can see how choosing more intelligently can increase those numbers.

I'm glad your theory is working for you. So far I only been doing this a week and half on spare time. I have taken almost 90% of all the deliveries they throw at me. I have done long distance and short distance. So far out of 59 deliveries I have done only like 4 have added extra tip. And that haven't even been a lot more anyways. I am wondering is thats by city or by deliveries type. Most of my deliveries are walmart since is close to my regular job and is the most active around the area where I'm dashing.

If this has started already (full tip shown for 7+ miles), then it hasn’t started in my area yet. I know bc right after I watched the vid, I received a 8 mile, $12.50 offer from a bbq restaurant that almost always pays out with large tips. 9 items and and $111 subtotal. When I completed the order the total was $33. So, I’m thankful I decided to test Bentleys’s theory myself first. I’m sure what B says is accurate but may not yet be active everywhere. Also, this was considered either a catering or large order delivery (which was only apparent when they asked me to snap a pic of my catering bag). Perhaps catering/large orders are excluded from these new updates? I’d also be curious how stacked orders with total miles over 7 factor into these payouts. I regularly get overpay on stacked orders but now I’m wondering if they will be showing full tips on these also?

Bently, thanks so much for this... I accepted an order that was huge. It took my catering bag plus extra bags extra and I saw the total of the order itself which was $330. I took the order thinking oh great this will have a good tip on it.. The tip was $5. I'm not greedy and I'm thankful for the tips I do get but this one threw me for a loop. It was also 10 miles so your information makes sense and I will keep a better eye on the distance.

In my area, I still get hidden tips on a few big orders, though i have not seen them anywhere near as frequently .... but i got one today that was at 11.25 on acceptance and ended at 11.50... not a big surprise but the surprise was there. I will also say i accepted a 2.50 at McDonalds (needing to be driven less than one mile) last week and i ONLY accepted it because I was on an acceptance streak to get my score up... low and behold , i ended up getting 8.00!!!! I was was shocked when i saw the surprise screen. I will start to keep receipts on my orders as proof from Here on out . I’ve only seen this one time ... people who accept $2 orders often will have to confirm this . (I doubt anyone watching these videos will ever accept base pay no tip orders willingly & consistently)

It's funny you mentioned about hidden tips. The other day my wife was declining orders that didn't make sense to her, then decided to pause her Dash, so that her acceptance rate would not drop severely and to also to drive to another area. On her way to another area, DD sent her a large order (while she was on pause) containing 16 items and was supposed to drive 2 miles to the customer. The base pay was $3. After she delivered those items there was no hidden tip. 🙄 My wife was insulted to the point that she called DD Support to complain. The representative told her that the pay was based on mileage. 🙄

I honestly will only take the order if it meets my criteria, I don’t care if there’s a hidden tip or not. I’ll look and assume it may have one and get maybe a lil excited, but unless it will pay me what I would initially require, I won’t take it. You can leave those low dollar orders to the new dashers who haven’t learned they’re allowed to decline as much as they’d like haha, we’ve all been victim to those shitty no tip orders when we were noobs.

Dasher fam...this was my very 1st day dashing...$49 for eight stops. Half the pay was tips...is this a good start....I only accepted 20% though. I looked at the neighborhood and where order was coming from...Chick-fil-A and Chipotle are the cheapest no tipping folks I see why they orders alway sit...I love the app features very user friendly, found that most people just wanted stuff left at door so the picture taking feature is slick. Just my thoughts.

I dont take any orders under $9..aswell as the payout needs to be more than the miles driven. Also for shopping orders,I try not to take ones that has too much items, since that can take up alot of time, and it also tends to make me late, considering DD doesn't seem to consider the time it takes to look for the items and whatnot..

I had to stop and pick ice cream up at the dollar store and go to a pizza joint a few miles away for the same customer which was 8 1/2 miles away. I thought for sure there would have been hidden pay there but I walked away with a whopping $9.00

The theory of high mileage trips showing the entire total before you deliver is not true at all in my area. I've just had three orders this week all over 10 miles that had noticeable hidden money on each order. And if you are in the catering program the order comes through just looking like a regular order with a large item count and is not listed as catering and they do not even ask you if you have a catering bag until after you accept the order. All three of the orders I mentioned from this past week were between 10 and 15 miles and 15 and $20 when I accepted them. The lowest additional money I got on any one of the three orders was $5.60 and the other two orders had eight and $9 extra respectively that were not listed with the initial offer so even over 10 miles this theory is not true in my market.

Hmmm odd, I can't see if a Customer added a Tip before accepting it an order, only after completing the order Then I Can See if they Tipped Me or Not. Also it's mostly about location and that means that every area/state/city differ from your pay/orders. Dasher here from California.

That share tea order they even included the $2 bonus in the offer screen.. that's f'd up. & on the item count part.. you GOTTA also consider the restaraunt. Taco bell people can add to the order a specific number of SAUCE PACKETS, which add nothing to the price, but are included in the item count on the offer screen. Could also be a high item count but it's all $1 burritos or burgers or whatever dollar menu / value menu depending on the place.

Where I live most people dont tip. And its a long drive to do one order that cost them over 65.00 and I was only paid 7.00 want worth it. They should be required to tip. Another person said " I tip in cash" but then told me to leave order at my door 😒 no tip.. Ya frustrating asf.
