Great idea, I would love that. You're right about losing a parent, I lost my stepdad in 2014 and almost every day I think, oh man Jerry would love that or I could sure use his expertise, he was a master mechanic by trade and a genius, when I was young I thought he could do anything and he really could fix about anything. Miss him until the squirrels in my oak tree get to playing and it feels like he's there too, he loved squirrels and hunting

That would be great! I lost my mom 3 yrs ago come june and my dad has terminal cancer. Life isnt the same when you cant call and talk to them anymore.

The duck pen looks absolutely great! I really like the idea of using the lattice as a wall for the pen, it gives such a cute vibe to it. but I'm worried on how would the ducks keep themselves warm from extreme cold with all those gaps on the exterior wall. But I guess you are already working on it. Jim is being a good boy during his therapy

All the birds will keep warm from deep hay bedding, the walls are closed at their height so wind doesn't blow on them and of course all the layers of feathers they all carry are ideal for warmth. Remember, ducks and geese live wild outside all year here.

The duck pen is coming along nicely. It looks really good for not having bought anything for it and just using bits and bobs you already had lying around. I'm sure the ducks will appreciate it too once it's done. I also can't believe how calm Jim is while you are working on his leg. He really has a sweet and calm temperament, he must know you are trying to help him. Keep up the good work. 🦃❤

Maybe if you wrap Jim's leg against a bendable rubber stick to straighten the leg and keep it in place. You may as well get/build him a jolly jumper/baby bouncer to prevent him from putting a lot of pressure onto his leg. It is an idea.

Looks like you got a lot done since the last time I watched but I watch this episode St. Patrick’s Day I am half Irish my mom is from Prince Edward Island that’s were hers her family came over from Ireland in the 1900s and my dad‘s a mix he always says he’s Cherokee is from Escondido California since the 1900s is grandparents settled in a small town called San Diego. I don't know one single dang thing about turkey husbandry but I feel like it speaks to your caretaking skills and great attitude, the way Jim is so patient and trusting with the time and effort you put into his healing. Also, I'm usually more of a rustic-look person myself, as you mentioned you are, but even I think the space for the ducks looks pretty spiffy in white! Plus, what's not to love about free materials! :) Great work and thank you for sharing as always!

Cody, I love watching you build things. I need to build a new hen house and I will try something like your Turkey hut. I don't have a barn😢. My chicks are getting big now and want to move into my house 😂. Sadly, a hawk took one of my little chicks. I find it so weird that the mother of the 8 babies just deserted them at 6weeks. They are still quite small and the mother of my ninth chick left her at about 9weeks. But, I think the mom with 8 battled to keep an eye on them. They ran off all the time. I also have an Egyptian Gosling (a rescue) and she adopted two chicks. They stick together with my ducks. Thanks for what you are doing for Jim. I wrapped my duck completely with her legs against her body. It helped Donald but sadly not Daisy. I've never had turkeys. I was told they are a deterrent for snakes. Do you know if they are? We found a large puffadder in our duck house last week. It was quickly relocated. It is illegal to kill snakes in South Africa. Cant wait to see the final complete new duck palace. Thank you! I don't know if the turkey keep snakes away, I haven't seen one in a long time here. All mother hens are different, Dizzy probably would have left too by noe if she could have but they all get along and the kids follow her around if she tries leaving them lol. Glad you're enjoying nature and you are able that hen house up quickly!

Cody, I don't know if you already tried this in today's video, but there's a way to tape splayed legs of chicks, maybe that could help Jim with his tendon? There's plenty of instructions and videos about that. Though I wonder if he maybe has a splayed leg, actually. If that's the case, there's probably no turning back as it's only possible to correct it in chicks asap. I have a budgie with a splayed leg (also happened when he was almost grown up) and he and I found ways for him to cope with it, he's living his best life now.

I think you had the right idea with the noodle going over Jims knee. You need something to keep that knee straight so it doesn't turn outward. It may be a little uncomfortable for him, but an uncomfortable week is better than an uncomfortable life. Another thing if that doesnt keep it straight, cut ur noodle in half long ways, making it long enough to go from above the knee on the opposite leg to up under his belly, sort of like a hobble but up higher on his leg so he can still bend the knee. Tried my best to draw it with text 🫤 Jims. Put noodle Legs. On these parts ⬇️. ⬇️ __ ____ ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ^ ^ That hopefully will keep his knee straight like the other leg and he will still be able to bend 1 leg and move around. I might be crazy trying to draw it out 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

I am sure you already know more about what you are dealing with-here is extra info about Jim’s ordeal. “Backyard Chicken” they have something on there that is similar to Jim’s legs. when you go to the website, search “Poult with odd gait, leg turned out?”. They have some great information. One section I read: Really sounds like a slipped tendon aka perosis. The tendon will need to be manipulated back in place and secured there. Give vitamin B complex at the rate of 1/2 capsule or tablet dissolved in one gallon of water. Do not add anything else to it. Make it the only source of water. It should be made fresh daily. You say you are feeding grower feed but what kind of grower feed? If it is chicken grower, it does not have the levels of lysine, methionine and niacin that turkey poults need. It is the insufficient levels of niacin and thiamine that can cause perosis. Maybe separate Jim for the time being as you did for Mumbles, until he is full healed. We all know how Pam is. 😂 I hope this kind of helped.

Did you know that the flue tha come around each winter and has a oriental name is because the ducks had a pen next to pigs. Ducks cannot spread to humans, but they can to pigs. Pigs can spread flu they got from ducks to humans. When i was growing up on the farm, i asked why the pigs were kept on the very far side of the barn past horse corral. She said they were too mean. But I found out from a program on the origins of seasonal flu's some thirty years ago. That flu is spread to humans from pigs. And to pigs from ducks.

Geese don't actually guard, her being a big bird next to the ducks deters some smaller predators and hawks that's all. Geese are more effective at alerting to danger which she can still do
