New Duckbill Spoiler for the 2022 GR86

The one thing that I missed the most from the premium GR86 trim that my base model didn't have was the OEM duckbill! Luckily you can buy them separately and they come with everything you need to install them including the templates to drill the holes. Yes we have to drill holes....

I like how they made it a separate piece vs the 1st gen. Because if you screw up you could just buy that new plastic piece. I did this on my 1st gen and it’s literally drilling the metal trunk lid

I have a carbon fiber duck lip coming tomorrow. I'm just going to use the tape. I had one for my S2000 and only used tape never had an issue with it and after 11 years it is still holding strong. I love your DIY video however. To see the Process if I need to drill is wonderful - thumbs up!!

I made the same noises when installing the Perrin trunk handle (curse you riv-nuts). Curious the duckbill could not have been designed to replace the entire trunk lip. Sure, more material, but the mounting points would already be there.

@@benrhysjenkins I didn’t notice that on their website so I’m assuming it’s a like a parts department situation but it still sucks, cause the Americans get it in the car as standard in top trim, no doubt we have to pay and have to ask around about one being supplied, fitted and painted. Tbf though it doesn’t even matter cause all GR86 were sold out in the UK and to be one 2nd hand is the same story as the GR Yaris, middle aged men buying them and then deciding they don’t want it before it arrives so selling for more than new. GR Yaris is supposed to be just under £34 and I’ve seen people sell them for £35k-£44k brand new or even with up to 10,000 miles. Same with GR86 supposed to be just under £30k but seen them going for £32k-£36k

Probably easier (and cheaper!) to find someone with a GR86 Premium of the same color who does NOT want the duckbill, and swap the spoiler. Unless you have a BRZ in WRB.

The duckbill only comes on the premium GR86 model. On the base model, you're left with just the trunk lip. If the holes were predrilled then you'd have holes in your trunk.

Because that's how it was meant to be mounted and is the most secure.

Not likely since it's not an oem option for the brz ☹️ you would need to go with the unpainted and then have it paint matched.

it says subaru on everything because its a brz built by subaru, with tiny differences made for toyota's preferences. if you took off the toyota badges & look at the back of them, they also say subaru made in japan on them!
