Thanks for Watching. In this video We explore the New 80mm EDF from E Flite. Smooth flying, great sounding and very fast. Shot at the William Bennett R/C Airfield in Sunny Las Vegas Nevada. As of September 2019 this Jet is the newest offering from Eflite and it looks to be a great Jet.

I'm lucky enough to have picked one up before it was discontinued. It is still in the box. I dont yet have the skills yet to fly it. Ive only tried flying so far 1 season and that was about 2 years ago. Life has just been keeping me hostage. I eventually want to get good enough to fly planes, but having come from surface RC for about 6 years makes it hard to get the controls. Also doesnt help that I'm stuck with trial and error as ive only got youtube for help.
@PMHobbycraftLtdCalgary
@PMHobbycraftLtdCalgary Жыл бұрын
Hi Lane. Thanks for watching and for your comments. We have many customers who get into aircraft from an RC surface background. It can be done and you're well ahead of most people who start from scratch because you already know about the left and right reversal when the model is coming toward you. As you know, airplanes have two left and right controls (Aileron and Rudder) that you have to worry about and most people find it helpful to look over their shoulder at the model when it's flying toward them with the controller facing away. It helps keep things straight without having to think so much. If you're teaching yourself, make sure that you pick a good trainer type of model and think of it as a learning tool because it'll probably be quite ugly by the time you're done with it. Pick a big, wide open field with tall grass and hand launch the model. Tall grass acts as a great cushion for hard landings. And, lastly choose a day that is dead calm when the night time wasn't cold so that there aren't many thermals to worry about because the air can get really bumpy and turbulence will be your enemy when you're learning. I would recommend the Hobbyzone Aeroscout S 2.1m RTF (part number HBZ380001) which should be available at any reputable hobby dealer. My link for it is www.pmhobbycraft.ca/hobbyzone-aeroscout-s-21m-rtfbtransmitter-not-incl.html . Good luck Lane, and stick with it. You'll get the hang of it and it'll be very rewarding in the end... Thanks again!

@@PMHobbycraftLtdCalgary I already have the Night Timber X, F18 Hornet, Carbon Z Cessna 150t 2.1, and the F15. The night timber is my "trainer" and i have it bound to a Spektrum DX8. I went to school to be an aircraft mechanic so i am very familiar with flight control surfaces and what they do. Ive already done a few loops with the NTX when i flew it but I'm not sure why i cant get the hang of the controls with the sticks. I have landing pretty well tuned in but the controls are too aggressive compared to what i am used to.
@PMHobbycraftLtdCalgary
@PMHobbycraftLtdCalgary Жыл бұрын
@@SebastianLong It sounds like you're well on your way. Landing is usually the most difficult thing to get used to with any model airplane and with the timber being a tail dragger, it is even more challenging. You may have already done this, but make sure that the pushrods are positioned correctly in the servo horns and control surface horns. I've seen errors from the factory where they're set incorrectly which greatly affects responsiveness. Another thing to try are the Dual Rate and Exponential settings in your DX8. D/R, activated by a switch, limits full travel usually to about 80%. EXPO will still give 100% control but changes the control curve to make it less twitchy around center.

Tell Jason from Horizon to build more scale composite jets like the old F-4. Foam flys like foam. Nothing like the stability and quality of a composite jet. The jet guys at my field (rabbit springs dry lake) are anti-foam. We have resorted to other companies which produce far less quality jets than the old eflite composites. A composite F-18 or a composite F-16 in 80mm would sell like hot cakes. I’d buy 2 of each myself just to have a back up.

Anyone know if the trailing gear on this would make it grass landing capable, unlike my F16?
@hifinsword
@hifinsword 4 жыл бұрын
Although the advertising touts TL gear, the nose gear may not be. Watch the stock video at HH webpage and you only see the NG go up on landings, not aft. But since it's on pavement, it's hard to tell unless it hits a divot or hole. I'll have to wait for more on how the parts are sold. If HH uses FMS's strategy, you will only be able to buy the LG as a pair, not left or right side individually. If that's the case, I won't be buying this one.
@copterscrawlersplanesrcpac9225
@copterscrawlersplanesrcpac9225 4 жыл бұрын
@@hifinsword Hmmm, the nose gear always bent on my Eflite F16 Thunderbird on really soft, smooth landings on grass, but the mains we're fine. So that's why I'm looking for trailing nose gear. Thanks for commenting, much appreciated. I saw that Eflite says no more than 1/3 of an RC airplane tire should be below the top of grass, since the F18 Hornet has 3" tires and wheels, I'm hoping it might land in 1" grass without damage. But the nose gear may be a bit smaller than the mains and less than 3". LOVED my F16 but the nose gear bent on every 1" grass landing!
@copterscrawlersplanesrcpac9225
@copterscrawlersplanesrcpac9225 4 жыл бұрын
@@hifinsword I think you are right about the nose gear NOT trailing, from the HH video, it appears the nose gear has suspension, but not a trailing strut. Worse still, the main and nose gear struts appear to be plastic rather than aluminum. If so, that would be a deal-killer for me.

@@copterscrawlersplanesrcpac9225 You might want to look at MotionRC's line of EDFs. The FW F-4, F/A-18C and the A-4 have trailing link LG. There may be others. The nose and main gears on my Freewing F-18 are TL and solid as a rock on grass. I fly off grass cut to 1in exclusively. I might buy the E-Flite models if I was sure I could retrofit the FW LG into them. Maybe they will start using TL gear in the future? I hope so anyway.

Max Supercars I’ve seen both, and the E-flite model is MUCH more detailed, plus it offers better performance and more flight time when using the same 6S 5000-7000mAh batteries. 80mm is the sweet spot for this very popular class of battery (90mm models perform best with 8-12S battery setups)
