I loved their first reunion tour when they came to Nashville. Each member performed together, then performed their solo songs. Bobby, Ralph, Johnny and BBD then toward the end they came back as New Edition. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing them perform many other times throughout the years. To me they should be larger than any other make group. They’re still together touring. Hardest working group ever outside of Frankie Beverly and Maze. Still touring after 50+ years!

I went to the Home Again tour when this song came out. I was so excited to see them. It was hot mess. Haha. They were on stage fighting with Bobby and Ronnie had to come and drag Bobby off the stage. Haha. I said I would never go see them again live. They trashed the hotel they were staying in and got sued. They said they would never come back to my city again. Haha. Funny how life can go. I did see them again last year in my same city - and and they were AMAZING! I'm so glad they are where they are now. I knew it was a long road for them. I'm definitely still a fan.

Bobby definitely had a bigger solo career than Ralph, but Ralph definitely did his thing too. To this day, I still can't think of another music group who had solo projects as successful as (and possibly moreso than) their original group projects. Jack one of these days you need to react to The New Edition Story.

I don’t know why Ralph didn’t have Bobby’s chart success and music video presence. All that does is illustrate how fickle the music industry is bc you can have the looks and talent but it is NOT a guarantee that your career will soar. Ralph, unfortunately, is one of many.

@@gabrielmcdonnell8699 My theory is that it was bad timing and perception. Ralph still had a clean cut, old-school values and charm vibe, while Bobby Brown, BBD (and even Johnny to a certain extent) had an edge to them. Ralph's album was the last one to come out that year in 1990, so by the time he came out, people weren't "caring" about a man with Sensitivity, they wanted to smack it up, flip it, rub it down!

Listen, I am 53 and I have always loved NE since I was 12 in 1982. They are just an experienced and special group. They always have been. 😊 Edit: this album was produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The video was shot in Miami. This song is from 1996 when they were all together for a bit on this album. The album was called "Home Again". 1996 Bobby definitely had the most lucrative and popular solo career than any of them even bigger than BBD ( BellBivDevoe).

Johnny replaced Bobby when he went solo, but they reunited in the mid 90s with all 6 members for a tour. The tour was a shit show though, with a lot of infighting and Bobby in particular battling drug/alcohol abuse. Bobby was by far the most successful, as Don’t Be Cruel was a massive album with multiple chart hits. BBD was probably next in success post NE, but they were all successful outside of the group. They did a performance a year or so ago with New Kids on the Block at the AMAs. Was nice to see them all together again!

Bobby had the biggest solo career outside of New Edition. But Ralph was successful too and people like to put him down because he didn’t sell as much as the others. But his album went double platinum and was successful. Ralph was supposed to go solo in 1987 but had to scrap his album to do another New Edition album. And in return, he ended up being the last member to go solo out of all of the members. Ralph could’ve had an even bigger career had they not played in his face like that
@RememberTheTime09

FACTS! NE jerked Ralph around more than once sadly. Ralph is the THE VOICE of NE. Just saying! Those guys aren't as loyal as he was/is. As for Bobby his career was a flash in the pan and had he not married the biggest Black Female Music star of their era he would be seen on the same level as the other guys cause remember New Edition has been way more consistent than ANY of their solo careers and he was there the least. Whitney's fame kept him relevant (cause ALL of NE's solo careers eventually floundered) and lowkey still does. That GROUP is a lowkey R&B institution thanks to the hard work of those main guys and present day Bobby needs them more than they need him.

@a-m3248 10 ай бұрын
@@RememberTheTime09Exactly! You hit it right on the nose. People always wanna talk about who sold the most and who had the most success, but they forget about longevity. A lot of Bobby fans are like that. His fans love to put down the others, especially Ralph because he had the most success. There’s no doubt Bobby was on fire during his prime, but his solo career didn’t last long just like the others. Longevity is just as , if not more important than sales and like you said, New Edition has more longevity than any of the solo careers. And that’s what people need to realize. Ralph doesn’t get enough credit for his role as the lead singer and has been disrespected way too many times, both by fans and other members of the group.
@gabrielmcdonnell8699

With the UTMOST respect, I disagree. What happened to Ralph’s solo career is a common occurrence in the music biz ie talent/looks didn’t add up to chart success. I know he and his label were frustrated but that’s how things panned out. It doesn’t negate Ralph’s talent, btw. ✌🏽
@a-m3248
@a-m3248 10 ай бұрын
@@gabrielmcdonnell8699 What exactly are you disagreeing with? I never said that talent/looks = chart success. All I’m saying is that Ralph got the short end of the stick and I think he had the potential to be a bigger artist. And I think that longevity is just as important as chart success, which is what NE has over any of the solo acts.
@gabrielmcdonnell8699
@gabrielmcdonnell8699 10 ай бұрын
@@a-m3248 The luck of the draw was my point ie a thriving solo career just wasn’t in the cards for Ralph. And that is NOT me being disrespectful to him. Just shooting it straight: he and his team tried to make a go of it but the material they produced, while having a respectable showing (as you said his debut went 2x platinum), just didn’t wow the NE audience. And THAT is what I disagree with. The posts above mine-and again, y’all, no negativity intended at all-pointed out all these variables of why Ralph didn’t blow up instead of, in my humble opinion, just accepting the fact it just wasn’t meant to be for Ralph. Doesn’t mean he didn’t have the goods to go to the next level (bc he did). As another commenter accurately assessed, in 1990, the target demo wanted a thug. Not a “sensitive” brotha. ✌🏽

It's hard to say who had the biggest solo career. You can make an argument for Bobby, but Johnny and Ralph also had massive solo careers. Johnny has the longest solo career because he is still dropping solo projects while still with the group. I'd say Johnny has the longest solo career. Bobby had the most impactful solo career, and Ralph had the most underrated yet successful solo career. I always thought Ricky Bell should have had a solo project because when BBD branched off from N.E. Ricky got a chance to shine as a lead vocalist. Ralph was supposed to go solo twice before he actually did. He was offered a solo deal by Maurice Starr after the debut album in 1980, but he didn't want to betray the group. Then, he was offered another one in 1987 around the same time as Bobby's solo debut and around the time N.E. Heartbreak came out but, the material wasn't right at that time and out of a panic, Michael Bivins recruited Johnny Gill out of fear that if Ralph left, and Bobby was already gone, it would kill N.E. That proved not to be the case because, the group actually got stronger and Ralph opted not to do his solo album til the beginning of the 90s. Johnny is also the only member of New Edition to be successful with another male group outside of New Edition when he linked up with Gerald LeVert and Keith Sweat to form L.S.G.
