Haze Jones Unfortunately, Records labels lie all the time about child artists' ages because it "appeals" more to people. You can even see this example in "The Jackson's: An American Dream" biopic. Young Mj was really 11, but was told to say he was 9 in interviews. So, these boys were truly 15 and 16 in 1983, with the exception of Bobby who was 14. Not denying what was said on their albums back in the day, but...this can be proven by simple math of their birth dates.

Yeah the shortness of breath he was experiencing definitely affected his singing, but as far as falsetto singing, Ralph had a naturally high voice, an especially before puberty set in, that's when a boys voice has even changed yet, that wasn't falsetto that was his voice, just like MJ he was blessed with a high singing voice for a male

lawrence worrell I'm confused. According to NE interviews that I listened to, the group stated that there wasn't a lead singer before Ralph. When songs were written they auditioned to see who fit best for the parts. Some did have more parts than others. I think that is the way Brooke Payne wanted it. Bobby was 2nd lead singer and Ricky was 3rd lead singer of the group after Ralph joined.

Bobby should have sung lead here as his voice hasn’t changed since the original release of these songs. The right thing to do was to play the music in a lower key. But that cost money and that was not gonna happen. Regardless Ralph soldiered through. NE Forever!
