Haze Jones Unfortunately, Records labels lie all the time about child artists' ages because it "appeals" more to people. You can even see this example in "The Jackson's: An American Dream" biopic. Young Mj was really 11, but was told to say he was 9 in interviews. So, these boys were truly 15 and 16 in 1983, with the exception of Bobby who was 14. Not denying what was said on their albums back in the day, but...this can be proven by simple math of their birth dates.

This video highlights why I'll always have so much respect for these guys. So young, so hungry and so talented. They were literally sweating bullets and never lost a step. Ralph showed that he was/is a consummate lead singer, performer and showman. Bobby, Ricky, Ronnie and Mike showed that they were/are consummate performers and showmen. That's why these guys are 50 years old and can still perform like they're 20 years old. I've been a big fan of them since I was a child and over 35 years later, I still am.

Yeah the shortness of breath he was experiencing definitely affected his singing, but as far as falsetto singing, Ralph had a naturally high voice, an especially before puberty set in, that's when a boys voice has even changed yet, that wasn't falsetto that was his voice, just like MJ he was blessed with a high singing voice for a male

I love the fact that they just got regular, everyday clothes on. Like something they'd wear to church or something. This is real music. Just solid talent, no hype, no flash.

Individually, Bobby & Johnny had the same agenda for New Edition which was to break the group out of the R&B Bubblegum phase...Bobby could've done it if he was more controllable & if the management would've allowed his unruly notorious ways to conquer & but they wanted to keep NE squeaky clean...Johnny was much more mature not only in vocal but in personality so he was able to achieve in NE what Bobby couldn't....But Bobby's explosive solo career did prove that management was indeed wrong

Stormee MoonCraig He could definitely hit the notes. His voice is in and out because they had performed more songs than those 2 shown here... See how they are sweating by the 2nd song? All the dancing moving and LIVE singing had him exhausted... Poor baby voice was tired 😞 This shit is hurtful to watch... Poor babies

Bobby voice was so young here, " the r the n our love will never end." But his voice was pretty good, and similar to Ralph's early on. Also Mike and Ronnie could sing, they both sang the song "Happy Holidays" on the Christmas album, and killed it.

They were working their butts off. Doing all that choreography and singing live is challenging for even the most experienced pros. They were kids, and they still delivered.

Fact: Prior to New Edition signing with Maurice Starr, Ricky was the lead singer of New Edition & Bobby Brown was the group's strongest vocally mature singer before Johnny came in the group..Ray Parker Jr who wrote "Mr Telephone Man" further declared this in the story of how Bobby got to sing lead on the song in which Ralph couldn't hit that range in his natural voice but Bobby had the chops to do it

lawrence worrell I'm confused. According to NE interviews that I listened to, the group stated that there wasn't a lead singer before Ralph. When songs were written they auditioned to see who fit best for the parts. Some did have more parts than others. I think that is the way Brooke Payne wanted it. Bobby was 2nd lead singer and Ricky was 3rd lead singer of the group after Ralph joined.

Bobby should have sung lead here as his voice hasn’t changed since the original release of these songs. The right thing to do was to play the music in a lower key. But that cost money and that was not gonna happen. Regardless Ralph soldiered through. NE Forever!
