Good vid. As with all first-gen products, I think user input lends to innovation regarding next-gen. I look at my first -gen EGO mower and say, "yeah, I'd want these new features" but obviously who wants to fork out more $$$? Weight is a big factor in this tool. A sling is helpful. I like the variable trigger. I like the quick-release handle. I do love my snow blower and also the fact I can use the lower amp batteries for less weight. Go Brooklyn!

We own the old model, but our has a totally different handle. Also with a quick release. And there is an also a part on the shaft where you can attach a strap. We have the tool since a few days and it was all in all the best deal as a kit. With a 2.5Ah and a 4.0Ah battery included. And the new tool is not that available at the moment. Nice comparison thx. UPDATE: actually every order over 899€ gets that 4.0Ah battery in Germany at the moment. But still our deal was better.

I was ready to buy the 60v Dewalt trimmer and then I just learned about the Ego power load trimmer. I then did some reading about it and I am so convinced that Ego trimmer is the one I want and ordered it. I ordered the newest model ST1623T 16" with 4.0 Ah battery. I had an old base model Ego trimmer, and really hated it, the stupid thing was hard to load, you had to really hit it to advance anything, but it did an excellent job. But this year, I went ahead and got the top of the line IQ trimmer with everything, and my Goodness, it's like going from a Hyundai to a Cadillac. Such a ridiculously better experience with the auto advance and easy reload, I love it.

Tried to read and didn’t yet see if there was a final answer on attachments that are only available for with the new head. I don’t know about the new trimmer head, but tech description of the upcoming brush cutter attachment: Exclusively compatible with EGO POWER+ Multi-Head System Power Head PH1420 As a side note, I know it’s likely a safety thing but I do wish I could lock it on rather than holding the button all the time. Sometimes it’s a long reach with the bush trimmer.

the biggest upgrade is the ability to add a strap if you own the bigger battery. the old model didn't have this and this was a deal breaker for me as I have 10ah battery from the 2-stage snowblower. now with the strap included, I can buy it and not worry about weight distribution and back problems. also, you cannot buy, for now, the new MST1603 string trimmer buy itself. you have to buy the whole kit which is a bummer for someone who already own batteries and see no use for more. hopefully they'll release it soon by itself.

Hey AL, Great video! I just upgraded to the new model, and read up on their new manual for it also. I noticed on the newer model, in your video, you have the adjustable handle right next to the strap holder, but I believe, it's supposed to go on the other side on that black, fixed coupler that ego pre-installed on the shaft. Am I wrong? Thanks & keep up the great work. FYI - I also purchased your recommendations for the ego worklight ($80 tripod), and the Lufkin measuring tape, seen in your prior videos -- great choices! --Dino

Hey Tech Made Easy, That spring loaded battery pusher does more than keep the battery from shaking around in the slot. It doubles as a switch so that the terminals can't be energized when the battery is not in place. Inside the unit there are capacitors and other electronics that can still have power even after the battery has been removed and that switch disconnects the terminals from the electronics.

I’m actually surprised the new power head is heavier than current model. I would think the carbon fiber would make it a bit lighter by then again it depends on the attachment you are using. For me with the current model and edger attachment, it is a bit heavy but I’ve gotten used to it after a while. It is the heaviest to me out of all my handheld ego tools. It would be interesting to see both of them in action with different attachments to compare. Great comparison!

I like to trigger improvement and the variable speed definitely seems to have more range. My recommendation if you have the original keep it there’s no need to upgrade but if you’re a new user, that would be the one I would get but the problem right now if it’s new and it’s not in any of the kits. And you know the rule if you’re going to buy ego, you need to make sure you’re buying the kit with batteries and chargers.

@@TechMadeEzy it was actually a little tricky... I'm in the UK and I had to read through quite a few different websites until I found one with the FULL specifications, I also managed to speak with a local dealer who confirmed it with me. @@TechMadeEzy Thanks for the reply. I watched that video (again) but didn't see the backpack being used with the Power Head + any of its attachments. I want the backpack, but not if I can't use the PowerHead with it since that's the route I also want to go for the extra versatility. Nice vid homie. Being a Gen 1 multi head owner, me personally wouldn't upgrade unless mine breaks OR the Gen 2 has a more powerful motor. Is there any info on that front? Torque? That is what I would like to see. Same with the single stage snow blowers. 3 models, did they upgrade the motors in those as well? I'm not dying for an upgrade but would like to on that front but if all im getting is a metal auger or heated grips and propeller assist, it's not worth it YET anyway. Love my Gen 1 single stage :) Keep up the good work
