As a former airline pilot, I have to say your co Pilot is better on the radio communication than 99% of professional pilots. It’s definitely a huge help when your co pilot can handle a radio like yours, especially in busy airspace like Chicago or New York. Fortunately for me, my girlfriend has picked it up like a pro after only few coaching from me. Cheers.

Both Kevin and Jaime work ATC out of Chicago, so that explains her radio skills. :)

The best part of your videos is listening to how you speak to ATC. It isn’t all procedural and shows that it really is a conversation with wants and needs from both sides. I only got a little of that as an IR student and I love watching real ATC folks talking with their peers. It takes the stress off.

As a kid flying up to MSV from TTN before moving down to ATL (PDK area) I used to love tuning into the Huguenot VOR and hearing it say "Hugh-Go-Not V-O-R". I don't know why I remember that specifically but it was always a checkpoint we used while following the Delaware River up to NY. Hope you had a great trip.

Very interesting video. Can't wait to see the next part. I landed at Martha's Vineyard in 1972 as a student pilot on my second cross country flight. I landed at Martha's Vineyard the morning after the only hanger had burned to the ground full of airplanes the night before. Very memorable. Keep up the videos. As a side line I did special event and aerial photography. Back when the Statute of Liberty was approaching 100 years old, there was a sailing armada called Operation Sail. Tall ships from around the world. I'd rent a Jet Ranger and pilot for a couple of hours each city that the tall ships moored. When it came to NYC, there were so many last minute people wanting to rent helicopters of do the sight seeing thing, that Tracon only allowed 75 or so aircraft in the area. Local helicopter rentals available were booked the month before. Having planned this event for a year, I reserved a Bell 222 copter, flew from NoVA to Newark, dropped off the doors and refueled, then two hours of aerial photography, back to Newark for the doors and the 75 minute flight back to NoVA. It was $3500 cheaper to fly from NoVA to NYC, than to deal with the aviation charter companies in the NYC area. When I was flying my 340, I'd fly west towards Harrisburg PA to stay away from the north south corridor, then reroute to Maine. Much more relaxing of a flight.
