Maybe Esty should separate the Handmade items from the print-on-demand items on separate platforms. Maybe that will ease the competition for the hard-working handmade creators.
@StarlaMoore10 ай бұрын
Or even just separate categories. I'm a POD seller due to time restrictions but I completely agree that POD and handmade need to be separate. As a buyer, I can't find handmade items anymore while shopping and it's infuriating.

Why do you assume POD creators aren't hard-working? I'm a graphic designer. I spend a lot of time on each my designs (which some KZbinrs tell you not to bother - just slap designs together, they say). And that's on top of my freelance design business. I listened to this video while I was also in Photoshop, busting my hump on a mural for a major client. I just can't afford the time or money on equipment to print mugs, tees, bags, etc. on my own. Having a production partner helps me take my ART to a different audience.

I’m an animal lover, and every time I’m reminded that axolotls are trending, it makes me so anxious and sad. Axolotls are trending as pets and under a lazy, English-ified name, meaning that no matter how many kids are falling in love with axolotls, the species is still going extinct. People sell designs of pink colored pet axolotls, while wild axolotls, the kind that are going extinct, are a deep, almost black, speckled color. If you’re going to make axolotl designs, at least consider making different designs for different breeds or a design for wild axolotls. They deserve the representation.

Absolutely! When working with massive trends, it's best to "stack trends" so that you're niching within a niche. For example, wall art is trending. Dragons are also trending. This stands to reason that "dragon wall art", a much less saturated niche, will likely see traction in the coming months.

Hey Valarie, We have TONS of sellers who have used HAA to grow their existing brands! My biggest piece of advice is to ask yourself..."Do I know what I'm supposed to be doing right now?" Because ultimately, HAA isn't a little "how to start a shop" course. It's a daily plan that will help to keep you on a timeline of growth and accountability. Occasionally, we have sellers who get into the program and say, "Oh, this portion is about branding. I already have a logo." And they skip it, which really misses the whole point of the program. HAA is built on a foundation of psychology, allowing you to both move forward AND to backtrack to understand the essential "why" behind a lot of your past decisions. Such as understanding the exact emotions that your brand creates in your audience, how you can create psychological triggers in your shop, and how to market to attract your ideal target customer. For established sellers, I recommend trying it out for 30 days. We are totally transparent about our refund policy because we know what a scary investment it is. If you get inside and decide it's not for you, all you have to do is email Marc within 30 days. and he will refund you-no questions asked. However, we've absolutely had large sellers who have been able to build a more focused brand, a better plan for the future, and obviously, more sales. CLN & DRTY Natural Skincare is a great example of a big shop that became an absolute mega-brand after HAA. She's super inspiring! If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to let me know! KZbin doesn't notify me of comments left after I've already replied, so it's usually best to email me. My email address is: starla@handmadealphaacademy.com

I’ve listened to other Etsy gurus that’s talked about how they get sales after day 1 of posting… that’s a big conflict and difference from this video that talks about a 4 month runway for products you list.
@StarlaMoore10 ай бұрын
It's great that they get sales right away. But it isn't the most realistic goal to have. Essentially, when you list a new listing Etsy gives that listing a slight boost in search in order to gauge how customers will interact with that listing. During that boosted period, positive interactions will help to build what is known as a "listing quality score" for that listing. And the higher your listing quality score, the higher your listings will rank. So making a sale on a new listing, especially for a shop that is already performing well, isn't abnormal. Especially since your "Customer and Market experience score" also play a role in rank, which is the sum total of your good standing and sales history on Etsy. Sellers who are already successful are more likely to succeed with a newer listing than a brand new seller who does not already have a positive sales record. This is just how Etsy's algorithm works, unfortunately. I also have a short presentation about this exact topic here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHeaaaRtmcSDnrs Definitely check out my free SEO toolbox as well. I go in-depth into the factors that contribute to search ranking on Etsy (7 factors in total) which can help a bit with making sure that you're covering all of your bases, even as a new seller: bit.ly/EtsyNoodle

Unfortunately you likely cannot without a parent being the primary owner. An Etsy shop is a taxable business. So you will need to have a connected bank account, a tax identification number (or your social security number if you're a sole proprietor), and you'll need to plan to pay taxes on that business. I would definitely wait until you're 18, OR discuss it with a parent so that they can handle the business side. Alternatively, RedBubble is a great platform to start on (art and photos) because it is a bit easier to set up and you have significantly less obligations as a vendor. My 11 year old has a RedBubble account.

Capybaras aren't a thing in the US either. They are a South American animal. These trends are universal. Checking in the eRank keyword tool, I just segmented by UK data and found a huge spike in searches for Capybaras with 2,475 monthly searches and only 1,742 competitors. So definitely don't discount the trends mentioned just because they aren't labeled as European trends. A majority of our trends are shared between the US and Europe.

If algorithm is "working" on a new listing for 60 days, do I need to list my Valentine Gnomes before Christmas? It doesn't make sense.
@StarlaMoore9 ай бұрын
The ideal time to launch new items is 4 months before the intended season. This is the standard for all eCommerce, not just Etsy. If you see Valentine's items for sale at your local craft store, it means it's time for you to list Valentine's items as well. Otherwise, you'll have less than a month to sell them before the holiday, which isn't enough time. Check out my free 2024 marketing calendars. I actually outline exactly when sellers should begin working on items for each holiday and season in order to launch them in time: bit.ly/2024EtsyCalendar

All these words are trademarked. Is Etsy not going bring them down when you use them? Thanks
@StarlaMoore11 ай бұрын
A word like "Dragon", or "axolotl" cannot be trademarked for overall use, even if you see trademarks in the TESS database. This would be similar to attempting to trademark the word "cat". You cannot OWN an animal species. You cannot OWN a word like "dragon". The only exception would be if you started a business in a specific industry and utilized the animal in that name. For example, if you started "Axolotl Insurance", another insurance agency couldn't come along and use that name. While there are "trademarked" species under the TESS database, these trademarks are not defendable in court. Etsy does not remove listings unless contacted by the IP owner directly. In this instance, the individual who attempted to trademark "axolotl" would need to go through Etsy's thousands of axolotl listings and report each one individually, then provide sufficient evidence to support that these listings violate the EXACT industry that this imagery infringes upon.

What about Barbie themed items?
@StarlaMoore11 ай бұрын
Items themed around Barbie cannot legally be sold, as it is a direct violation of Matel's trademark/copyright. I don't cover any trends that could get a sellers shop shut down or get them sued. 😉

In 1986, we put a pickle ball court in our backyard. Had neighborhood tournaments. Installed a huge light pole to play at night. Wow, never heard of it? Neither did anyone in the 80’s. Saw it at a homeshow display in Calif. It was a Popular game in Oregon. We also used the court to play volleyball & badminton. We Sold the home in 2008. New owners had the pickle ball court removed. Wow! A potential home buyer came by with 3 small sons and said, “This will never work...” Amazing how trends and fads work. From no interest to much interest. Many People follow fads & trends when everyone else is doing it. At my work, the ladies collect different rubber duckies and try to out do others on their cubicle ledge. I dislike trends & fads. I hate dragons & alien items. Therefore, I would never make one item of it. Same for unicorns, gnomes, fairies, skulls, day of the dead. Go with what brings you JOY to make!

Here's a question that has no answer: If a person found a way to become rich in this competitive world, why would he tell millions of people about it? A smart person does not tell anyone about the way he found. He does it himself and becomes rich. If he tells everyone, know that he is definitely lying. The person who tells everyone a lie may have only one goal: to make money by telling a lie. This is what 99 percent of KZbinrs are.

Bud, you're living in a pretty cynical world. I'm a teacher. I went to school to be a teacher. I'm sorry that you've been surrounded by influences who have lead you to believe that those with influence are all rich bitter jerks, but don't place me in the box that you've made a choice to draw. 99% of what I do is free, and I use my influence here on KZbin to promote charities every single Friday during our live streams. It sounds like you may simply need to surround yourself with a better circle of influence.

@@StarlaMoore Your only goal is to attract viewers to your videos with impressive titles. For this, you target people who are trying to achieve something on platforms like Etsy. "This trick will grow your Etsy shop!!" Lots of deceptive titles like this. Not just you, of course. There are hundreds of scammers claiming to have cracked the algorithm of an online sales platform. If you could figure out just 1 percent of the Etsy algorithm, I'm sure you'd take this secret to your grave. I speak the naked truth and say "the king is naked."

Unfortunately, these titles are what get views. Of course, getting views is a goal of a KZbinr. No different than getting sales is the goal of any Etsy seller. I have 1,000s of videos. Those with cut-and-dry titles simply do not get views. That is not my fault, unfortunately. The difference though is that I deliver on every single topic I teach. If the thumbnail states that I'm covering trends that will be selling on Etsy, I will thoroughly cover those trends and I will provide the exact data that lead me to those predictions. If I'm teaching about Etsy's algorithm, I'm doing so with my unique knowledge of that algorithm, based on my years of working for Etsy's biggest SEO company. I'm not entirely sure what your objective is? What exactly is your argument? Yes, I make videos with the objective of getting views. The same as I write science fiction books in the hope that people will read them. The same as I make products on Etsy in the hope that people will buy them. None of these things elude to the level of deception that you indicated in your initial comment. I'm not trying to be rude. I'm simply trying to understand why you, someone I've never seen comment on my videos in the past, would make such a bold assumption about me based on knowledge you've acquired about other people who have nothing to do with me. Rather than judging my character, maybe spend a bit of time getting to know my content. Join me this Friday at noon EST for our annual holiday charity livestream. Watch more of my content, other than the single video you likely found while searching for this exact topic. Normally I don't respond to troll comments, but you seem like an articulate and intelligent human being. If I've given any particular "vibes" that have eluded to the level of selfish behavior you've mentioned, by all means, give me specifics so I can adjust my teaching in order to become a better educator. But simply sourcing the behavior of other KZbinrs (people I strive to be entirely unlike in my style of teaching) is not constructive and helps no one.

@@StarlaMoore I appreciate your effort to defend and express yourself. Maybe you are not the KZbinr profile I target. I'm talking about a general situation. I am also an etsy seller. But at the same time, whether it is related to my field or not, I have been examining Etsy and the vultures flying around it very deeply for a while. And I want to warn people who want to start a business on Etsy about the stark facts I've seen on this subject. There are more dead stores than stores operating on Etsy and similar platforms. These are people who either did not do enough research before getting into this business or did the wrong research. They are wasting time and money in vain. One of the reasons for this is that there is a lot of talk on KZbin such as "It is very easy to make money on Etsy" and "Let's open a shop on Etsy and earn 1000 dollars a day". Also, many sites like Alura, POD companies like Printfy, and design sites like Canva, which make money from these idle jobs, use you as "affiliates". You continue to spread false information around for the sake of the money you will earn from these companies. I've watched so many KZbinrs like you that if I watch one more video of yours, I'm afraid I might vomit. So forgive me and continue making thousands more hours of videos with your uninformed followers. To teach, you need to have a qualification, a diploma or a certificate. If you have any official document on this subject, share it so we can see it.

Interesting Trends, Starla. Ithought all the Capybara content in my recommendations on KZbin and Capybara clothing/stationary ads everywhere else were because I recently started following @darkwingsrescue on KZbin. But maybe Etsy is onto something here.
