I hope you're having a beautiful weekend! What did you think of today's style of video? It was way more relaxing than usual and I even included a bit of music, so let me know what you think! Did you like it? Do you want to see this style of video from time to time on my channel or would you prefer I just stick to the more serious hard-core type of decluttering videos I have been posting? My feelings won't be hurt either way! I'm making these videos for YOU after all! 💛

I have really enjoyed your videos. I discovered you yesterday and just had to go back and start at part 1 for the basement/garage clean out. You and your husband are doing great. Your daughter is gorgeous-love those big blue eyes. Keep up the good work!!!

Decluttering has cut the time I spend cleaning in half.
@SimpleLifing3 жыл бұрын
This is my biggest hope! Thank you so much for sharing that! I look forward to getting to that maintaining stage!! It already is feeling so much more manageable and less overwhelming to keep up with cleaning in the areas we’ve successfully decluttered in. Then there’s the rooms where it feels as if the decluttering is taking forever! 😂 It is always encouraging hearing from you and others who are where I’m trying to get to! Please don’t ever hold back sharing any tips and tricks! 💛

Sometimes when I watch decluttering videos and they get it all done in one session or in a couple days time, that it feels like the little bit of decluttering progress I’ve made last weekend is so not good enough. So, it’s motivating in the way that it shows any progress, is still progress. We just have to remind our selves that we’re juggling the other things in our lives as well, so we’ll get there in due time. Keep going! 💪🏼

Aww thank you for sharing that, Patricia! You are so right! I often feel that way too, like “why can’t get as much stuff done as so and so? I must just be a slow worker”! We will get there, so true! It might not look exactly like how other people seem to get there but we will get there nonetheless!! Thanks for being here and thanks for taking the time to comment! ☺️💛

Once you start decluttering it can become an addiction..a good one in my opinion😁. Nice side effect is that shopping is less fun to do because you do not want to clutter up your home again..at least..that is how i feel about it. Great calming video👍👍
@SimpleLifing3 жыл бұрын
I like the sound of this type of “addiction”! 😂😆 I feel it already happening to be honest! And it 100% does change how I feel about shopping and even accepting free stuff or gifts into my home. After experiencing the “pain” of decluttering for so long (with so much more to go) I don’t ever want to have to do this so hard-core again! 😂😂😂
@daphne49873 жыл бұрын
@@SimpleLifing i feel the same way about free stuff...i always refuse those things..the word " free" doesn't justify accepting it. For gifts i always ask for things i can use up..like candles, handcreme or a nice olive oil for example.😊

Your baby is beautiful. I was once a solo mom with three year old twins and a newborn. I still just do a walk through every evening. I think of it as putting my house to bed. You will have to keep those products up high.
@SimpleLifing3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! And oh my goodness, I can’t imagine having to do it alone, especially with twins and a newborn! You are one strong mama! 💛 I like that, “putting the house to bed” idea. Did you also put baby locks on those cabinet doors or just make sure dangerous products were up high enough?
@jeannebowes28983 жыл бұрын
@@SimpleLifing I did both But anything edible or could be a choke hazard was up high. I kept very little in lower cabinets or drawers except playable pans and the like. I am now a senior senior !

Going to be a long one (I like 'ranting' too 🤗😘). And I am going to be all over the place. I agree with another commenter that having decluttered does cut down your cleaning time. A lot. I even say that my house cleans itself after decluttering about 75% of my possessions. I live alone though. Most important thing is to have a place for everything and to make sure that that specific place does actually work for you/ your household. In other words: store stuff where you use it. This makes putting things away after using it SO much more easy and quick! And it makes getting things done easier and quicker too, since you don't have to go around the house looking for the things you need: it's right where you need it. I feel you on the CFS. I haven't been diagnosed, but have been dealing with chronic fatigue since I was 15 (I am now 35). Hats off to you, it ain't easy 🤗💪🏻 You will be able to get more rest (headspace & peace of mind) and have less anxiety once you feel you've decluttered enough. That moment will probably come when everything from the basement has a place inside the house without crowding it, is organised within the basement without looking cluttered or out of your life entirely. I noticed that you were already overwhelmed with the kitchen stuff in your first declutter before you even started because 'so much is in the basement, this isn't even all of it'. I am willing to promise you that your anxiety will go down a lot once you feel like your house is balanced again. It isn't now, after all the projects you guys have done in the house and let's not forget the baby girl that has enriched your lives and environment. You haven't found a new balance yet and that's fine, for now, however frustrating it will feel. This phase too will pass, so enjoy it while you can. That said: Look for balance, not minimalism. Minimalism could be a means to create balance, just recognize for yourself that it is balance you are looking for and minimalism helps you get there. Listen to what your anxiety is telling you: everything is scattered around, there's too much to keep track of and the little one is going to crawl around as well: a precious one to keep track of on top of everything else. Daunting... I understand the want and even NEED to go through this process quickly and you're right, decluttering is an ongoing thing, especially living with a child and partner. Just don't beat yourself up over 'not going quick enough', stop that. It took me 5 years to get where I am, not 5 episodes. You're doing awesome as it is. When it comes to things you are on the fence about, ask yourself this: 1. Do I want to clean this thing on the regular? Idea behind this one: if you care for it, you CARE for it (If you notice you start sighing or slowing down, once you get to having to clean/ put away/ put on/ wash/ iron/ otherwise deal with a specific thing, it's time for it to leave. Accent on TIME, not leave: there's a time and space for everything, if it's still a maybe, it's not time YET or its not in the right space, and yes, the right space might end up being in someone else's house 😅) 2. Why am I even on the fence about this? Idea behind this one: it's easier to make decisions once you know your reasoning/ why. (Instance 1: Moving things around isn't necessarily a bad thing, like puzzle pieces, sometimes things just need to fall into place to fit the picture. Maybe you love it, it's just not reaching its potential where it is now/ taking away potential from something else. Instance 2, an example: today I decluttered a pre made curtain. Bought it for one area, didn't like it, wrong colour for that area, decided to keep it 'for now' to try and use it elsewhere. Today tried it elsewhere and again it was a big, fat NO. It wasn't JUST the colour: it was the quality. It was just bad, it didn't look good, it didn't hang 'right'. There wouldn't be a single way of making it look good. Changing the room I would hang it in wouldn't have made a single difference. It was easy to decide it needed to be decluttered, after acknowledging that.) I am going to stop now, can go on and on, but I already feel this is way too much and thinking of just deleting it... So 'send' it is, since I don't want to have wasted the time typing this out to then just delete it 😊 Last thing though: it's your process and your channel, don't let us dictate what videos you're going to have to put out. The ones who watch, will watch anyway and if not, others will take their place. You're 'serving' a worldwide demographic of millions of people, of all stages of life, all ages... I like longer, chatty videos (voiceover, or chatting while you do stuff), without music. Others don't. There is no right or wrong here: it's YOUR channel and it's your LIFE you're putting out here, so own it 💪🏻 Be you 🦋 Trust yourself, trust the process, trust your path: it's yours 🤗

I am proud to know you! You are on your way. I am over half decluttered but covid is holding up my clothing declutter because we don't go out much right now. Love getting rid of stuff because storage for what remains is then so much easier. Keep up the good work you are doing. You will prevail!

Aww this was so sweet! Thanks for taking the time to comment, it means so much! You say you are over half decluttered, how long would you say that took you to get that far? And do you think you gain momentum as you go along? Oh and I couldn’t agree more, storage is getting so much easier the more I get rid of! I’m loving the results so much so far!

I like the idea of a declutter hunt, but also feel like I have so much clutter that I will be overwhelmed 😬 but I think I will take 10 minutes to run through and find obvious garbage or misplaced items. Also, I would love to hear your birth story! I know that isn’t totally your themed content but I LOVE birth stories. I have use a hairtie on my bottom cupboards and it has kept babies out of the chemicals for 4 years 🤪

I felt the same way! That I had too much clutter to do the little I did but I was surprised and it actually made me even more motivated to do more next time! Baby steps help I guess. Speaking of babies, I can definitely think about sharing my birth story on here at some point 😘 Although I actually have a motherhood channel I’ve been working on too. When I get that one all figured out I will share a link on this channel for anyone interested in that sort of content and my birth story will be over there for sure ☺️💛

I really enjoy your videos! From one minimalist to another I noticed that a lot of your decision are based around moving an item to another spot in the house or replacing it with something more functional. I found it helpful in my journey to look at those items and ask myself if I can give them away to someone who will use them like the lysol products. Or can I multipurpose something else I already own instead of replacing it, like the strainer. Happy decluttering!

I’m a new subscriber, and I enjoyed the added music moments. My favorite videos from your series are the basement ones with you and Doug, but this was also good.
