NEW Extreme Declutter & Organize 2021 | Messy to Minimalism Series | The Basement [PART 3]
In this video, my husband and I are continuing our decluttering and organizing of the basement with Part 3 of the basement process! The last two times we also worked on decluttering the garage but today we didn't have enough time (or energy) to get to that, so today will just be focusing on the basement alone. I truly hope this video is motivating and encouraging to you in your own decluttering/cleaning/organizing journey. I look forward to connecting with you, as usual, in the comments!

🏠 About this series:
My "Messy to Minimalism" Series takes you with me as I go through the ENTIRE house decluttering and organizing to become more minimal! I hope it is extremely motivating and helps you declutter and organize your own home as you CLEAN WITH ME! This is going to be a HUGE process so prepare for lots of videos throughout the whole thing! First, we'll be starting with extreme DECLUTTERING and MINIMIZING (step 1) in order to become a true minimalist (meaning, I only keep the things I actually like and use in my home! This looks different and unique for everyone!), next, we'll set off deep into actually ORGANIZING (step 2) and making things look pretty. Then, finally, we'll get to MAINTAINING the home (step 3). Of course, I will tweak things as I learn and go along this journey to minimalism but ultimately my end goal remains the same: to become minimal with my belongings and simpler with my life routines so that homemaking and upkeeping my home in general (cleaning, chores, etc.) are as easy and stress-free as possible so that I can LIVE MORE! Being a new mom and someone who struggles with chronic fatigue and energy issues, this is a MUST if I want to feel peace in my life and even have a chance at staying on top of my to-do's. Can you relate? Are you also a "Simple Lifer"? Or at least a "Simple Lifer Desirer"? Leave me a comment with your own decluttering story! I'd truly love to connect and encourage each other in this special online community! 💛

My husband got me that vanity years ago. I had always wanted one! But unfortunately we don’t have the space for it in this house. At least nothing we have come up with yet. We had it up here for awhile but it looked bad blocking a window and just looked out of place in our small rooms. Also I found I rarely actually used it anymore to get ready in front of. So as much as I love it, it’s probably not going to be used anytime soon 😞 But I also don’t feel I want to get rid of it yet either since it was a special gift. Time will tell with this one I think ☺️

Books are my thing so for me they tie into sentimental category and while ive done super well getting rid of what i have and not looking at the book section when i go to the opshop haha i find that the best thing ive done is go digital with all new reads since id say about 2013. So as someone who averages a book a day thats a lot of physical books trees and money ive saved plus time and space etc.

A book a day?! Wow I am so jealous! I am such a slow reader but I do love reading in my spare time. I also started going digital and it is the BEST! Either kindle or audio is the way I’m going forward with books!

Could a wall unit be built for his specific tools…to get them off the floor? What if all the random useful furniture get moved to the side of the room to clear walking space? I am building my clear out/declutter muscles…. 40 years of marriage, we have too much “stuff”. Priorities change!👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Priorities really do change, don’t they?! We’re seeing this even after just 6ish years of marriage! And thank you for the suggestions! We have been talking about attempting reorganizing for the next video! 😆💛

@@SimpleLifing I’m not used to seeing American basements as we don’t have them in Oz. Such a huge extra space! What’s your vision for how you want it to turn out? Any inspiration pics?

Its october 23rd here in Australia! Has doug sold them yet? Go doug! Childhood stuff is hard! Especially the fun stuff that you still like or worse you think your kids will like whether you already have kids or not haha.

I know Doug set a reminder on his phone for 30 days! I’ll have to check with him on his progress but I don’t think he’s gotten them up to sell yet because we’ve been keeping busy just keeping on going in the basement so I’m guessing he’ll just be donating them soon… 🤔

I am curious if Doug made those boxes as he was a kid/teen or if his mom put them together? Just wondering because I have two little girls and have been thinking about what items I would want to keep for them to pass on to their kids or for a special memory box. Also I love how it is a team effort with you two! Most other channels I watch showcase only the wife decluttering, so I appreciate how Doug is into it and giving advice too!

I asked him for you and he said he thinks they were in the same bins as a kid and that he played out of the bins. Thanks for the encouragement on the channel! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the videos. I’m also really glad Doug has been making appearances in them as well! 😘 He has great ideas! And we both contributed to the mess so we both need to clean it up 😂 In the basement and garage, for sure he’ll continue to join me for the videos I think!

While he is working u could sort things in categories sweep areas that are clear, remove empty boxes just some ideas. What are u doing with the vanity? Maybe in between talking you could play some calm pleasant music😊
@SimpleLifing
@SimpleLifing 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the ideas! 😆 I’m not sure about the vanity yet. We don’t have space for it in the home but it was a gift from my husband so we’ll probably hold onto it in case we move to a bigger house one day or just come up with another space to put it upstairs ☺️

Dont fold laundry! Its not illegal not to haha. Same goes for ironing. Just hang dry clothing on the hanger and that way youre skipping folding since you can just hang em straight in the wardrobe and no creases needing ironing. Also air drying is better for clothes and your purse and the environment. Also as for things you cant hang underwear socks knitwear just have baskets for that category and use thise baskets like a drawer on your shelves or you knoe if youve got closed drawers just drop em in their indiviual drawer and there you have it. I mean folding is a perfectly insane waste of time! Haha.
@SimpleLifing
@SimpleLifing 2 жыл бұрын
I love this idea! I don’t have a lot of space in the closet to hang everything but I’ve been thinking of ways I can get away with not folding so much laundry! Like, why do I need to fold all those little baby washcloths!?!? They take so much time and no one cares if they’re folded or dumped into a basket! 😂

Haha I know you’re right but I just want to give them another try! I think there are a couple items I do still like. If I find I’m still not wearing any of them, then they’ll go soon enough. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 💛
