I'm old school, we do not pay for chores. And yes! Every Saturday we cleaned, just like when I grew up.

I agree. I think they need to understand that that’s part of being a family. For my kids I would give them extra thing to do for money besides their chores or I would reward them for their grades. I feel their education is as important if not more but rewarding them for a job well done in school makes them want to keep working on their education. I mean in the end when we get out of school we are paid to do our jobs. Anyways that where they get their money to but things they want. It’s also a way to teach them about money.

Saturday is our big clean day as well. We don’t do allowance for regular chores, if you live in the house then you help take care of it. But we do pay for extra things that the kids help with, mowing the field or helping the grandparents, things like that.

Love your videos……with my two, they had their chores (cleaning room, unload dishwasher, cleaning their bathrooms etc.) that we use to tell them it was the cost of living with the family, but if they wanted to earn money we had the $ chore sheet. These were things they could do that were not part of the family chores (washing the cars, mopping the floor, cleaning the garage etc.) where they could earn cash to spend and or put in their savings. It taught them that you have to do things to make your home livable, but also how to deal with doing a job and earning money (saving, budgeting etc) We did this since they were about 5 all the way thru high school. You are an amazing mama and whatever you decide is the perfect answer for you.

Great job Lynn. You have a wonderful hubby there. I believe children should be brought up to learn responsibility. They should be responsible for keeping their room clean. I see so many You Tubers running around picking up messes that they are capable of doing themselves. It is our responsibility to teach them to be able to live and cope in this world. They are perfectly capable of being responsible for certain chores as they get older. You have a great week sweet lady. God bless you and yours.

Hi ! Sooo, about the chores...my children had responsibities as we called them...keeping their rooms picked up, helping with daily chores, everyday things. We did give a small allowance for other chores, like, big cleaning days, deep cleans, washing the car and yard work etc. Part of being in a family and living in your home, is loving it. And the way we love it, is to care for it. A mix of unpaid resposibilities and a small amount for other chores is a good balance in my opinion. Worked for my family x x x

Wow you got a lot done!!! Looks so neat and put together!!!! I think you are right, kids should help around the house because it’s their home and they help create messes! If they want to do extra chores maybe then a little money, we never paid our kids for doing chores! If they had activities or things they needed money for we just gave it to them at that time! When big things like, I want a car, they got part-time jobs!!!! I really love your new home, lots of space, love all the natural light, so pretty🏡 thanks for all the motivation😍💕💕

I agree the whole family works as a team and therefore no one gets paid for chores. I used to give my children an allowance based on behaviour with clear rules to follow. They very rarely didn't get their allowance and they understood that as a family we did necessary as well as fun things together. Today they have their own homes and we have working bees where we get together to work in each other's houses for the big things and I love that they are willing to do so. Also we each are willing to drop everything when we need each other. I love the bond that I have with my children, it is based on love, honesty and respect. I also was a full-time working mum where I basically raised them myself.

We do a hybrid model for chores/allowance. First there are those chore that MUST be done. This includes making bed, putting your clean clothes away, cleaning up their bedroom. Basically things that only affect them. Then we have 'household chores' which we do give allowance for. This includes doing dishes, taking out the garbage, vaccuming the living room, etc. Basically things the whole household benefits from. Hope that helps!

We never got allowance as kids. We grew up making our beds every single day, except maybe one day on the weekend. We had a sticker chart and we could pick one fun thing we wanted to do at the end of the week. We always had chores and we never complained or asked for a dime. We just weren't raised that way. Most times my sister and I wanted to surprise my dad for lunch while he was at work lol. I'm still a super clean person. I prefer it. I'm glad we were raised to do things to appreciate what we have and take care of it.

I never received a weekly allowance, however, i liked my moms approach on things. I speedskated all through middle and highschool at the ice rink. My room had to be clean every weekend in order to get the $20 i needed to go to open skating at eat with my friends. How I approach my kids with allowance, is, they are expected to keep up their tasks regardless. I dont necessarily give them money, but I buy them a lot. Whatever interests they have, I provide as much as I can. But with that comes responsibilities. I want to start implementing allowance soon because I believe its important for my kids to understand the value of a dollar and responsibilities that come along with it.

Growing up I never received allowance but when I got older and had my babies (I'm at 5 now) I would always be yelling make your bed, brush your teeth this and that and I got tired of that. So I made a chore list of things the kids can do during the day to help me out without me asking. They earn money depending on what they did that day and how much the chore cost. We ranged it from .25¢ to 1.00$ depending on how hard or easy the job was. And on Sundays they got their allowance for the week. Now my kids didn't do everything on the chore list everyday but we kept a chore chart and they marked off what they did after every chore. It helped me tremendously and taught them things they needed to do everyday to get into habit. Good luck!

Additionally, I think it would be a fun option to offer every once in a while- "act of kindness" chore where they go outside of the house to help someone else. The more acts of kindness they do reach to a goal eligible for a bonus ;)
@justjillyo3 жыл бұрын
Yes to Saturday cleaning! Making my list for tomorrow. As for allowances and chores, I would make a list of things that are expected and have to be complete before eligible to do extra for cash. I would say the extra chores could be something they have to learn to do correctly and to your standards. Ideally it would be something you teach them and that would lighten your load. I'd also set a cap of how much they can earn so that the older kids couldn't eat up all the opportunities to make the cash. Younger kids take longer to do things so it's harder for them to make money. For example, each kid can earn up to $40 a month. You could also do a $5 training bonus for when you are teaching them how to do a paid chore. Of course these figures have to work within your budget. Just some examples!

Then we they were older and wanted a allowance I added on things. Like every day chores was make there beds, keep room picked up. Help with dishes and things like that. For money i would have them wash my car and clean it out. Help with the out door things in the summer. Help wash windows those kind of things. I was a single mother and it worked for us.
