This movie was good. An answer to her question. Only the people that started the ritual can save the world. If any of the staff was a virgin, it wouldn't count. Love her reaction to this. ☮️

My understanding is that the object was chosen not by attracting attention to it, but by doing something specific - in this case, Dana reading the latin incantation. It could be, for example, putting a necklace on, or assembling this Rubik's cube-type thing, or whatever.

The people behind the scenes got the characters in their scenario mixed up. Dana was in an illicit affair with her professor which made her 'the whore' while Jules was in a committed relationship with Curt. She definitely wasn't 'whoring around.' Curt was on scholarship which made him the scholar so Holden was the athlete which he demonstrated by catching the football. Marty was full of philosophical wisdom so he definitely wasn't the fool. The Harbinger tried to warn them on the phone but they ignored his warning, just as they said the kids would.

This was done intentionally. It is revealed onscreen towards the end of the film that the redhead is not a virgin.

So glad someone else got this! Jules especially gets judged harshly by reactors for making out with the wolf, but it's a stuffed wolf head, ffsake. It's just an inanimate object. And it's revealed they're drugging her to slow cognition and increase libido...and even then the only person she actually does anything with is the person she's in a monogamous relationship with! I think also they establish early on that she wants to hook Dana up making it look like it's the 'slutty loves company' trope of The Whore pushing her The Virgin friend to "have more fun" but it's also revealed that the reason she's pushing Dana to get together with Holden is likely an attempt to get Dana's attention off her affair with her professor, which Jules finds inappropriate. And Curt and Holden are the perfect example of how people don't fit stereotypes. Holden is supposed to be The Scholar and gets called an "egghead" but Curt and Holden are on the same football team! So how is Holden less of an athlete than Curt? And, yes, Curt is obviously athletic, but it's mentioned that he has an academic scholarship and he's able to recommend reading material for Dana so he's obviously not just a dumb jock.

@@GarytongueBetz-vl1fu They knew she wasn’t a virgin. She was the best they could do under the circumstances. Then they drugged people to modify their personalities to fit their assigned roles. I’m not sure what the harbinger was going on about. I wasn’t sure it was coherent enough to be relevant. Next time I watch it I’ll see if I can make heads or tails of what he was saying.

They said earlier that that the plot was sold over and over and Marty wasn’t killed that hacking sound was Marty killing the zombie with a trowel. And finally WHY TF WOULD THEY PUT A BIG BUTTON THAT SAID PURGE THAT RELEASES THE MONSTERS

I'm so glad you decided to watch this movie. This was an interesting movie it was more unique and different. This was one of my favorite horror movies. I remember enjoying the story and seeing how these people pulled it off leading up to the apocalypse so there were no survivors at the end. I love movies with an ending twist...

The scariest part about the opening was you rubbing your eye just before the title card jump scare. Was worried you were still going to be rubbing it and end up poking yourself in the eye with your finger.

That's why the idea that society needs to crumble is stupid! Society being extremly damaged doesn't make it come back stronger, it sets it back. It leads to a loss of knowledge, of production capacity, of cultural ties. Rome is not the only example. The same happened with the 1000 BC collapse before it. Yes, society recovered but it took a long, long time, where it eventually got to would have happened anyway (and sooner!) if the collapse hadn't happened, and a lot of knowledge that still hasn't been recovered was lost frover. Nihilism and accelerationist theory are for people who are angry but also lazy!

One nitpick; Jules was in a committed relationship while Dana was sleeping with a married man. How was Jules the "ho" in this scenario? Otherwise, fantastic film.

That is one of the big pieces of the group failing. The people they type casted are all wrong for the roles, similar to Jules and Dana being wrong.

It was done on purpose. That is the point, that they stereotyped them all wrwrong. It is literally revealed onscreen towards the end of the film that the redhead isn't a virgin.

That was kind of the point! None of the characters actually fit their archetype. Jules may have been acting out a bit after being drugged to increase her libido, but ultimately she didn't do anything with anyone other than the person she was in a relationship with, so she was hardly a whore. It was established that Dana was not literally a virgin, and she wasn't even comparatively prudish because she was in an inappropriate relationship with a professor. Curt was athletic, but he had an academic scholarship and is the type of person who recommends reading material to his friends, so he's not just a dumb jock type. Holden was on the same football team as Curt and is able to, with no warning, catch a football that flies at him out of an open window! We saw a lot more evidence of him being The Athlete than The Scholar. In fact, the only evidence of his supposed intellectualism is that remembers some high school Latin and wears glasses! And Marty, eventhough he was constantly getting high, was no Fool. He understood better than anyone what was going on and noticed before anyone else that his friends were acting strange. It was a commentary on how these horror film archetypes are tried and how people are more complicated than stereotypes!

If I remember correctly, they never said that professor was married. It still makes Dana a very unsuitable candidate for The Virgin. And yes, that's the point. They are people, not walking stereotypes. There is a very telling moment in the beginning when Dana attempts to take a textbook with her, and Curt pulls a macho move and tells her to not read this crap. And then explains that there is a different textbook that covers the same material, but does it much better.

So you noticed Andrew from Buffy but not Fred from Angel. I thought you'd recognize everybody from that franchise yup both Winifred and Andrews actors were both on this movie. It is a Joss Whedon film so he added a little Buffy and Angel Charm to it just Like the Lost creators do on all their series with Lost actors playing roles or Julie Plec makes sure actors from her TVD Franchise are on her other shows like Roswell. The Druggy was my Fave character as well. I thought he was so funny and he was a True Hero rescuing the girl and he was the only one that made it out alive I Loved that twist because we didn't actually see him die so I Loved how they asked Which one? And then he appears and they escape that twisted Experiment. I Loved this movie
