I'm almost done mine for a short I'm gonna shoot
@experi-mentalproductions53583 жыл бұрын
I disagree, I get that storyboards help alot of people, and I'm not suggesting banning them. But personally, the more planning (writing, storyboarding, etc) that goes into a project, the less I enjoy actually doing it. That's why all of my short films are *really* short, because I have to store the entire story in my head. It's also the reason I'll probably never make a feature film, despite how much I would like too...
@BloodyMunchkin3 жыл бұрын
@@experi-mentalproductions5358 Not planning before a shoot is skipping a crucial piece of the process. It's good to be open to coming up with something on set if things don't work out, but you should at least show up with a plan because you risk standing around trying to figure out what to do and that's no bueno.

Being new film and just filming for fun/hobby i always find you helpful. Ive been editing a Chinese Food Take Out thing im working on with a really bad framed shot (talking on phone) and this video made me really realize how much i don't like that shot, also just added some digital zoom (to tighten up the focus) because of your video here. Always forget to subscribe to your channel, in till now. Thanks for taking the time to make and share.

Awesome! Framing 101 - perfect instruction D. Favorite thing to do...hunting for the shot. Learned more doing that than any other framing “technique.” GET ON THE FLOOR!!! SIT ON THAT FRIDGE! GET ON THAT LADDER! SHOOT THE HANDS UNDER THE TABLE! 😁

After making few teeny tiny micro shorts this past year, I can vouch for every word you said. Luckily I've been photographing for many years so framing comes quite naturally to me, but the thing is, even though I try to plan everything ahead with storyboard sketches, I still always stumble on the fact that around 50% of the shots will be changes in some way on the set. It can be my new ideas on the set or an actors idea or someone elses, also some composition can look plain stupid on the set or they don't make any sense, so you change it.. Yeah that happens all the time..

Really well done video. Very generous and spoken like a film school graduate. I think what you're doing is great. I graduated 2011 and teach documentary filmmaking at a couple of schools in NYC. No not NYU. I'm think it would be great for you to give out 10-20 films to watch. I'm guessing, and I could be wrong, Citizen Kane and blade runner left people with a big question mark. Those are old film teachers films. CK is the the grandfather. I'm thinking more like There will be blood and run Lola run, even Belly, which wasn't a great film but it was beautiful to watch. Loved your energy and enthusiasm to the craft. You're the real deal.

Such a great video man! Composition helps so much. Being intentional with how you are shooting is so much more engaging. I’m excited to work on that. Question: the close ups of you, for instance, in black and white did you physically move closer to the camera when you were filming or was it during editing that you scaled the footage it to look like a close up? Enjoyed the vid 🙌

True story: I worked as a professional artist/painter in a studio for about 10 years. Our studio had a bunch of talented artists. One office guy was a dreamer and wanted to do great art, but seemingly figured he couldn't paint as well as he wanted, so he took up photography. He spent tens of thousands of dollars getting camera equipment. One day he went with a fellow co-worker (who was insanely talented) to photograph animals. The dreamer with the 20k+ camera pulled it out and just fired off 200 photos. The co-worker looked at him and said " why don't you shoot it from over here? There's nothing there at that angle. Try to figure out a good angle and composition before shooting it." The dreamer didn't listen, and just thought if he took hundreds and hundreds of photos, he'd eventually get a few to come out good. That's the difference between seeing as an artist and just setting up an expensive camera and hoping for the best.

Yes, exactly gear is important yet the key to a great film is the story and how you tell it. It can be in 4K but if it is shitty and not well shot it won't help you to tell your story that well.

Great word. As a musician, it's the same crutch. If only I had that new shiney delay pedal Radiohead uses or that overdrive pedal built using analog components discovered in a cold war era bunker then my tone would be Of the Gods and I could write the next hit song. I didn't work on technique or song craft so the pedals ended up on eBay.

When you do conversations and switching back and forth, do you shoot just one side of the conversation at time or do you shoot both sides of the conversation using two cameras ?
@KenSahaja5 жыл бұрын
Fuck yes i need this answered
@kayteekon4 жыл бұрын
I think you can do it with both cameras to save time provided that the cameras are of the same brand which will produce the same color science, but usually people shoot with one camera because its budget friendly to use one camera, it gives you complete control of any angle without exposing another camera in the scene/frame, you need to think about light placement, microphone placement to have that better shot and sound, after that you do the same on the other side as well,better you try both methods to see what works best for you,then you can decide for yourself, but for me I would use one camera at a time as a beginner and master it first before experimenting with more cameras and equipments
