Great Video! Also usually on FX6 Sony says give it a max of 15 min before trying to troubleshoot or turn it on or off. I would call Sony before i even try to turn it off also the full battery is important because for some reason that can also mess up a few things

The monitor and control feature isnt for client monitoring. It's for exposure control and settings adjustment on a larger touchscreen device. Useful for multi camera interviews when theres only one shooter. Or for a live stream event where the switcher can change exposure settings if needed away from the camera.

I was hoping for support for Animal eye autofocus tracking.. they have this on other cameras and something I’m missing on my FX6. Maybe it’s time to do a Petition and send to Sony. Also having false color + focus peaking on the internal monitor would be welcome.

Sony really need to focus on frequent and meaningful updates on the specialized models like the FX series or A9/1/7R, this is a good step so far. Most working professionals won't be purchasing replacement bodies for features in the long run, they might supplement current gear with extra things but need to be able to rely on what they have without immense mounting expenses every 2-4 years...

The best part of the Monitor and Control suport is that if have an Accsoon cineview you can use it as access point and have basically a high range monitor and control over the camera.

It was huge personally, because I use False Color a lot - it was on the FX3 with Monitor and Control app and in camera... but not available on the FX6. Now that's it's available through Monitor and Control app, that's huge for me.

That monitor & control app has some sweet features like.. touch to focus and slog3 false colors. It's fantastic to control you camera remotely and also great for an assistant. Not having to take external monitor also saves weight. Although it is not perfect, I find myself using it more than the atomos these days

Hi Jason , Did the V5 firmware ADD 1920x1080 Interlaced on the SDI , the Manual for V5 seems to mention 1080i SDI O/P option (and the V4 does NOT offer 1080i O/P , so I'm thinking maybe it is now supported ? (working with external transmission device that only supports Interlaced and don't want to always use the HDMI as it's a crappy cable to use in the field....) , still looks like Progressive ONLY codecs though , but if SDI Interlace is now available then V5 will still be something would want to use.... many thanks in advance

Really love the FX6, if I had infinite budget I'd grab the Sony gear to film. I always thought of picking up the FX6, but stuck with the Nikon Z9 for 1. 8K. 2. IBIS. 3. Bird Eye AF. 4. Photo + Video Features. The sensor read time is comparable. Only downside is the low light isn't the best.

Open gate is not possible due to the codec chipset used for the XAVC-xx, that works only in 16/9 or17/9 (source : Alister Chapman)

I can't access that menu as the FX6 says there's an accessory plugged into the GRIP even though it's not attached. Any tips? I've only managed one short shoot with it before it turned into a rather expensive brick (hopefully temporarily).

Blazar remus have x1.5, so this update may help them a bit :) But to be honest, I don't treat built in view finder as a main source of image, in most of the cases for FX6 I'd use on camera monitor. BTW: the update 5.0 has been temporarily suspend due to audio issues, it should be available again soon.

A couple things they have missed from the FS5 days...output peaking over HDMI, which is handy for external EVF users that want to see the FX6 peaking not the EVFs internal peaking. They also have not addressed the abysmal s35 picture quality, in 4k it is great but in s35, it it not useable for agency work.We do a lot of agency work and they generally do not require 4k as they are mostly social media campaigns.

I'm not sure why you can't film in FF at 1080p? I never shoot S35 on the FX6 because yes, it looks terrible. I'm just wondering why you keep doing it when you know it's not up to par?

@@SuLu_XD the FF HD still has a noticeable image quality issue vs 4K. I have even sent vision to Sony AUS, they agreed there was an issue but could not offer a fix. The FX3 has the same issue. It would be nice to shoot in s35 as we have a shelf full of stabilised lenses from our FS100 and FS5 days. Now we just shoot everything in FF 4K but it required all new lenses.

@@Realist-m9c I have personally never had any problems with FF at 1080p. My a7iv is sharper but that's because the sensor is down sampling from 6k+ and has slower readout etc. If ultra crispy FHD and S35 modes are such a high priority, I would recommend looking at an FX9 if you want to stay with Sony or maybe look into Blackmagics new releases.

It is the BM7 II DS. I did a full video on it and it currently still is my main monitor for the fx6 and red Komodo x

Yeah I think you’re right. The only Sony camera that has open gate are the Venice cameras. Not even the Burano at the moment has open gate recording. It’s hard to see these older cameras getting it

You could crop into the image to get the aspect ratio that you want, but I generally agree with you. In a 16:9 sensor, you’re either throwing away a lot of the image with a 2x desqueeze or you have an incredibly wide aspect ratio. The only real situation I could imagine using it is if the FX6 is b or c cam to the larger Sony cams and you’re using vintage 2X anamorphics.

You’re not missing a bunch. Anamorphic de-squeeze is nice plus focus breathing compensation for Sony lenses. Most firmware updates will do basic camera stability upgrades too which may help with user experience

sony have decided to start region locking there cameras, locking certain regions into there native ntsc settings and removing the pal/ntsc switcher option from those regions. I firmly believe this is the only reason sony now seem interested in 'updating' there cameras, being able to sell it/mask it with the adding of new basic features. we haven't won anything lol. once sony are satisfied thats gone under the radar and have reached the point that there cameras have been region locked for certain regions, updates will cease.

Region locking is a bad idea in pro cameras. As professionals we travel overseas into other regions which would require us to change and use our cameras within the frequency so I really hope this does not happen
