San Martin are up to V4 of the 62MAS Homage in 41mm and even brought out a 37mm GX version for the purists but it seems its a watch that they just can't get right! The original was only 37mm in diameter so why did they go for a 41mm?
When they did get the size right with the GX version, they changed the movement away from the Seiko NH35 (WTF?)...again why?
Well it seems someone has got part of the message and with San Martin bringing out cheaper versions of their best sellers, it was obvious that this was an opportunity to rectify this faux pas.

Bought this one just because of the value thinking it'd be an occasional wear to fill a slot in the watch box. It's rarely off the wrist now. The enamel dial is just stunning.

Finally someone says it: the San Martin logo looks better printed! I had the same problem with the lauded San Martin quick adjust clasp, only could wear the watch when it was fully expanded. When I added a link the watch was simply too loose no matter how I adjusted the clasp. This was is really great! But personally I prefer the 62MAS skin diver design on a rubber strap. And I would like the hands with some dual finishing, i. e. brushing on the top ridge.

I have 2 Seestern 62MAS's (gray sunburst and red fume'), and they're great! Perfect size, accurate and really look good . I also have a Seiko SPB143. I'd consider this SM, the enamal dial is a beauty, but the polished case is a concern. Great review, thank you!

I have the Sub 300 from Seestern and i am extremely impressed with the quality. Its one of the best watches i’ve ever purchased. I want a 62mas, maybe i will have to consider the seestern.

I purchased the green enamel dial on the black tropic strap during the 11/11 day sale for 158 dollars US. I cannot find any negatives about this watch, and I own 6 Omegas. This watch is amazing, it makes me wonder if I would have spent less money on watches in general if my first watch had been this San Martin rather than a Seamaster 300p.

When AE watches start getting into the 3 and 4 hundred dollar range I am not a participant. I realize that San Martin have progressed in their development of quality finishing to command those prices but if I am looking for that type of finishing I will look more towards some of the micro brands offerings. My idea of AE watches is looking for very inexpensive watches with components and quality beyond their pricing. It is a hobby not the pursuit of a high end luxury watch . Price creep is exactly what will take me out of the game if it turns out to be the trend.

I bought the seestern 62mas and gave it away. It was simply too small with bezel too thick despite the lumed date and bezel. I enjoy larger watches that are closer to 40/41ish, so this new SM in black sunburst is superb. I have no issues with polished sides of watches because it improves the contrast and variety of metal finishes and makes the watch endlessly interesting to look at all angles. I don't care for scratches too. It just means the watch has carried lifemarks on it and it's mine to keep. I have 3 sub-like maxi cases and 1 tudorbb-like case watches. I've wanted a diver with more dial presence and less bezel presence so this 62mas iteration is close to perfect.

Wow! Im usually not a 62MAS guy, but this one is lovely. I think the polished sides are more vintage correct. Ok, more importantly, what are the designs on the door and blanket. They remind me of US Pacific Northwest indiginous designs, but probably not correct. Nice watch and great review.

Well I like dimensions and bigger font on the bazel. Missing chaptering bring this closer to Seiko. However hands are finished simpler, no capped hand, bracelet and caseback are also much simpler. I like this watch, when you consider the price and quality, there is no match.

I do like the look of this one. Interesting to hear you say that the bigger SKX doesn't suit you. I have the same wrist size as you and love the fit of the 007/9. All a matter of personal preference I guess. Great photography and commentary. Keep up the top work.

Hi Randal and thx for watching. The 007 just wasn't balanced for me and rolled too much. I had to wear it really tight to combat this and it just wasn't comfortable. I love the SKX013 though...and my Promaster NY0040 which wears like a 40.

Great review, and for the price you can't complain for what you get, but my everyday Seiko spb143 still far superior dial , markers, hands. Will keep checking in on your excellent reviews to see if these Chinese watches will catch up to what the Seiko and the Swiss can do.

That will be sooner than you think as Seiko, unlike Citizen have completely ditched the sub £300 market. Personally I don't believe Seiko offer value for money any more. I used to wear them a lot but no more. I am not alone in thinking that. It's a real shame

I was on the fence with this one and the seestern. Ended up ordering this SM with the classic grey sunburst. I hope this can at least be on par with the seestern! Lumed bezel and fully brushed case would have been nice, but SM lume is plenty good and as a bracelet guy, SMs gets a lot of praise. How are we with the sharper edges that they used to get a lot of critique for? Kind of regret not going with the enamel dial, but I’m sure that the classic grey won’t disappoint. Really looking for to getting this one home!

Just the heads up, the quick adjusting clasp doesn’t fit this. The links on one side are a couple of mil too small to fit the bracelet link. I also really wish SM would include some extra links. Some of us have larger wrists..

Even though the Seestern is smaller it's looking bigger because of that fat and imho ugly bezel insert. Bezel inserts on San Martins and Heimdallars look way better. I think I might get the blue one to go along my 37mm San Martin.

It's personal taste but for me the best has always been the Seestern. True in size. Buy it on the FKM rubber as it's super comfortable...though I have heard talk that the bracelet now has female end links. It is often very cheap in the sales but don't let that fool you. I still have mine and it is still my favourite diver on AliExpress...but I have a 6.75 inch wrist. If you want something bigger then this New budget San Martin is also very good especially with the enamel dial

I wasn't aware of a 37mm sizing. I have a 7 inch wrist but it is sort of skinny but deep and I am leaning towards smaller diameters. I am generally finding that I have a preference for slightly smaller watches. Not only on my wrist, but on other people too. Some watches are just too big for my recent taste.

It's a no go for me for these reasons. No matt bezel, no lumed date, no brushed sides, no OTF clasp and that green lume needs to be white with a blue dial. I also don't like that dial logo. Either printed or cut through the applied logo to break it up a bit. Just got the Addisdive AD2033. It would be a good one to throw in the battle ring.

There are so many watches I have passed on because I have large wrists. It's not an advantage and I would love 7 inch wrists. I guess over 8 inches in China yet to be incorporated. Hi! I have the 41mm version, SN0007G V4. I also feel it is too big for my skinny 6-inch wrist. Now with this new 39mm version I am wondering if it is worth the upgrade. I see some little things changed more than the case size: there is no chapter ring, no 3D shark engraved at the caseback, no drilled lugs, the minutes points of the bezel it's now aligned to the bottom instead of center, and the center of the hands it's not covered (it has the hole). Is it maybe a downgrade of quality to get a better price?

That ugly logo is such a distraction. It takes away from the date window and the markers. Good watches, but really really ugly and big logo
