Just ordered one, the reason is the portability. As an educator, I teach in different classrooms with basic tech (projector/audio system). Not needing a power source (using laptop) is a key feature. I have a portable ptz camera (with tracking) and wireless lav mic -- running everything through the Mackie will allow me to record everything in class with minimal set-up or in-room needs (proximity to power, computer, different cables/cable managmt, etc). THANK YOU for this review, as your review is one of the few that aligned with my needs/use -- I was hesitant that it could do what I needed, and your review illustrated that it could indeed.

Thanks for the info! Can you suggest an alternative to this if I want to connect two mics and two mirrorless cameras? My cameras do support USB for streaming. HDMI inputs would be preferred. I will be streaming two people talking podcast style. I've looked at the Rodecaster models but they seem like overkill and place emphasis on things that I won't need, like sound effects.

Excellent tutorial friend...... I have this beautiful device, the only thing I can't do is connect my webcam. This is an Insta360 Link camera. When I connect it directly to my PC the camera works correctly, when I connect it to the USB 2.0 or 3.2 ports it does not turn on the camera when I try to open it with the OBS program, I need your help, what am I doing wrong?

The Insta360 Link camera works when you connect it directly to the PC, that indicates that there is enough power, quite the opposite when you connect the camera to my mackie mainstream. Could it be that there is not enough voltage from the output of my mainstream to the PC?

Wish the capture and passthrough resolutions weren't glossed over. All mackie and this review mention is 4K60 passthrough. but a lot of us game at 1440p with either 120Hz or 144Hz. Would be good to know if that was supported. What about HDR? VRR? Also max Capture seems to be 1080p/60. I think all of this is good if you're looking to start out and have a jack of all trades / master of none sort of device.

Hi Mike, I just got the Mackie Mainstream device. I am running everything through OBS on my Macbook. I am not getting any audio from my PS5 to OBS even though I added an Audio Input Capture. Do you know why that is?

Hi there! It sounds like you might need to adjust your PS5 settings to route the audio correctly to your Mackie Mainstream device for OBS to pick it up - double check your audio output settings on the PS5 and make sure it's set to the Mackie Mainstream. Hope that helps!

What happens if you plug both your headset microphone via jack as well as a separate microphone via XLR? Can you somewhat control which one works and which one gets muted?

Yes, you can control which microphone is active and which one gets muted by adjusting the different dials on the unit and using the Mackie Matrix software for even better control.

@ You would need an adapter to take those two 3.5 pins into a usb-c. I think I have seen those. There is only one 3.5 jack for headset/mic - single cord would be TRRS (as I understand). There are mute buttons for mic, HDMI audio in, and phone audio in -- this might be capable of being an AUX in? It is my understanding the headset competes with XLR mic. There is a selector on back. All this said, I have only used XLR so far, so this is based on the ports/buttons I see on the back.

Yes, you can use this device for recording video, but you will need video capture software in addition to the Mackie Mainstream for a complete setup.

mmmm....so why not just use your pc keyboard for the F keys ? Ive been researching this thing and I know it does a ton of more stuff even can make differnet things are asignable to the programmable upper keys. Just commenting here so...lol.

Absolutely! Using your PC keyboard for the F keys is definitely an option, but the programmable upper keys on the Mackie Mainstream offer ease and not all tiny keyboards have these keys.

Interesting device, but the narrator is just too excited and does not particularly sincere so I doubt his credibility, waiting for him to love the next thing some mfr sends him next. Of course, this is merely a commercial advertisement. I find the the narrator's pseudo enthusiasm irritating, and he says "basically" and "actually" far more often than he should like so many other yokels doing the same sort of advert disguised as a "review." Of course, this is obviously NOT A REVIEW, merely an advertisement listing product features sponsored by Mackie. I wonder whether the narrator is motivated to publish this video as required "content" to max his KZbin metrics and, possibly earn a commission driving sales under an affiliate program, or two. Of course, the device may work well and be really boffo for the task - but I am having difficulty believing it is as great as he claims and cannot ignore my annoyance with the sappy, over the top presentation. OF course, that is just MY take ... your mileage may vary. . JT
