Totally agree dude. The whole V8 ego boost is really ridiculous these days. Discounting the truck for “how it sounds” reminds me of how autobloggers bashed the 718 cayman for having a 2.0 liter instead of a flat six and then 2 years later rated it like a 10/10. It’s just dumb at this point, the truck sounds good and it’s cool and there’s nothing wrong with it being a V6 unless you use the size of your engine to compensate for the lack of your size in other areas of your life.

This sounds good to me. Outside of the Mustang, Ford’s exhaust on their V6 models usually sound terrible…and more terrible when you try to mod or straight pipe them.

It's cause they use a unequal length exhaust setup, and the firing order on the Ecoboost is not as common as the Nissan/Toyota v6s. Ford remedies this by installing that trombone to make the exhaust equal length to produce a more pleasant audible experience.

Sounds great imo, especially in the opening sequence and the fly bys. Comparing stationary revving to the engine actually being under load and in boost are two way different things as far as exhaust sound goes.

I own this same truck…under load in Baja mode, with the back window open it really starts to snarl after 4K rpm. I’m thrilled with it for being variable and a V6.

I believe the raptor has Baja roots back when it came out, I do think they tested it and won some crazy off-road race I’ll have to find the name of it. Edit : the race is the Baja 1000 it won in 2010.

Absolutely love the sound of the new Raptor. Ford went to great lengths with equal length dual pipes and spent a ton of time and R&D to get that sound profile. I agree, sounds like a twin turbo GTR which many people feel is the best sounding turbo vehicle out there. I've always wanted an active exhaust setup and think it's the best of both worlds. Although I've liked the previous Gen Raptors I feel this is by far the best looking version and feel it's a legit truck for the year 2022 with the futurist lines and accent lighting. Couldn't imagine a twin turbo truck growing up especially one I could jump in the sand dunes and go offroad at that kind of speeds. Thanks for the vid

5:36 probably the same reason they have the little covers on the ridid fog lights. The Baja mode is probably louder than is allowed with a stock exhaust system so they say for offroad only be but know a lot of people will just immediately go to that setting anyway

The tone and loudness do change slightly when you listen with headphones in. It sounds good in all four modes when winding it out. It does sound pretty much identical to a stock GTR. Which is a good thing imo.👌🏽🔥🔥

I think Ford did a good job. That exhaust design is impressive, and they clearly spent a lot of time in R&D on it. I couldn't tell much of a difference between Sport or Baja. Quiet and Normal mode sound pretty much the same to me.

I think the Baja mode definitely has a significant amount more rumble/turbo noise than quiet/normal does. I honestly kind of dig the sound. That is of course not expecting it to ever have the sweet sounds of a beautiful V8 rumble

I went and bought 2 fake heavy Guage Flowmaster mufflers after the x-pipe. I ran the exhaust out the back with 3" aluminized pipe. Everything factory in the exhaust is gone after the catalytic converters. It has no drone and sounds amazing.

I own a 2012 Rousch Raptor. It sounds amazing. Having said that, I don't think the Gen 3 sounds bad. A six sounds like a 6 no matter what you do to it. Different strokes for different folks. I would buy a Gen 3.

You're used to trying to hear a rumble. You can't get that out of a V6. You're looking for more of a "raspy/crisp" sound. It's like changing brands of beer. It's already an aquired taste, but once you get used to it, it's hard to be satisfied with anything else. But if it's what you have to work with, there's not much you can do about it.

Take into consideration that the exhaust will take time to break in, just like a motor does when new. You may hear a slight variation in the tone in say 6 weeks or a few months from now. The 6 sounds good, but it's certainly not a burbly, snarling V8, Damn Smog nazis.

Sorry, I am so out of touch with the enthusiasts who need "ear bleeding loud" in order to feel like things are right. As a guy who grew up in the "muscle cars era", my idea of "loud" was the deep throated sound of Hemi mufflers on my '70 383 cubic inch motored Road Runner. I test drive new Ford vehicles for a living, and my "benchmark" is, "What can it do?", not how loud is it. I love the torque of the new F-150 Lightning, and Powerboost! The handling of the Mustang High Performance Ecoboost, would run circles around my 1969 351 Cleveland powered Mercury Cyclone Cale Yarbrough edition I had after high school in 1973. That car was no slouch, but a Fiesta ST or Focus ST would out handle that car on a track without breaking a sweat. I love stealth! I have no problem driving a bright red "cop attraction" Mustang GT in "Quiet Mode" as I go past police, and other sport performers, then throwing it into "Sport Mode" and let them envy my tail lights! Quarter mile driving is great, but Autocross, and tracks with high and low points, and lots of curves REALLY test driver ability and vehicle control, "...becoming one with the vehicle". My "Dream Garage" would have a Mach-E GT, next to my 2019 Bullitt, and my F-150 Powerboost parked in front of my driveway. A quiet, but powerful daily mileage driver, a fun N/A weekend muscle/sports car, and the off road/towing truck at my disposal. A C-7 Corvette 2LT, and a loaded Hemi Challenger, next to my 6 Speed 2021 Manual Genesis G-70 would give me the closest thing I could have to "Jay Leno's Garage", LOL! Having said that, still love your channel, Mike, keep it going!

I have a Gen 2 with the Borla Touring exhaust. Not too bad, but it is still not a V8. And BTW, the V6 does not get any better gas mileage than my 2017 Roush F150 with a stage 2 Supercharger. And the Roush screamed, and I had to add traction bars. Why not put twin turbos on the 5.0????

Bottom line, the raptor is BAD ASS. The 2nd and 3rd gens to another level of visual sexiness. Kiddos to Ford for squeezing out impressive numbers out of the 3.5. If I had the final say I would have crammed the 5.2 super charged monster 🐍 under the hood. In doing so accomplishing two things. Keeping the raptors iconic truck it started out as and keeping Ram/mopar designers where they went wrong again.

It doesn't sound too bad really. I have a 2.7 TT Bronco Badlands coming in early early spring and i didn't think they sound bad. I think its very slight differences in notes on the Raptor. Only way to be sure is put a decibel meter on it inside and outside

No way this exhaust should not have been added to ALL the 3.5 ecoboost engines! This would have swayed me to buy a a powerboost. I own a 2016 3.5 eco and a 2021 RCSB 5.0 for reference. I will guarantee you that if owners start removing these exhaust... there will be a market for them! I'd buy one to retro on my 2016 eco.... LOVE the sound of this exhaust over the Hoover vacuum on steroids of my 2016

Valves have to open up in the higher RPM to meet BP requirements for HP. The mode differences are mainly in part throttle positions.

Honestly sounds pretty damn good. Slightly more aggressive once you open the valves up. Sport & Baja definitely sound more throaty 3-5k rpms, the feint turbo spool is noticeable towards the end of your revs. I'm sure a 1.5/2" diameter pipe increase would resonate more with a titanium system, but your Raptor might sound too rice afterwards. I'm very curious what a small ECU remap will make power wise in the Gen III. Thanks for the great content, Mike!

Quiet mode sounds a little quieter than normal. Sport and Baja are considerably louder. Baja sounds quite a bit louder than sport when you're rolling around. It sounds a bit better than the Gen2. It's nowhere near as good as the V8 with the Borla Attak.

Mike, maybe you need to buy yourself a late 70s square body chevy with a 180hp 350 v8 with glass packs. Maybe that would make your member feel larger . The 3.5 ecoboost is a stout engine. I remember guys like you when I had a Buick GNX. The v8 guys usually saw my tail lights.

Sound is a weird thing. Our ears are not linear in sensitivity. You should use a dB-meter to actually measure the absolute and relative level . And that could give you very surprising results.
