New fountain pen! The Platinum 3776 with the elusive, misunderstood C nib. Trust me, this nib rocks!

The Coarse nib is amazing. I have both a Coarse nib and one ground to a cursive italic. Both are so much fun. I think they're a lot of fun, and good to use. I've been disappointed by their fine nib, thought I love their soft fine. Thank you for sharing this! And I suspect I would agree with you on the extra-fine and the ultra-extra-fine.

As a broad user, the C from Platinum is what I wanted the B to write like (which is somewhere in between a western M and B). The C makes even a western M look anemic, and it’s also very forgiving with writing angle. I’ve also used Pilot’s Coarse, and it’s even broader than Platinum’s-about the same as a Sailor Zoom-and incredibly smooth at the right angles. For fans of huge nibs, I think Pilot’s will be the winner, but Platinum’s C is incredibly usable despite being not nearly as wide.

What’s interesting is I actually have two Platinum C nibs, one on the 3776 and one on the President. The one on the President has the same line width as my Pilot C nib, which is something like a western BB. Buy the C nib on my 3776 is much wider. The Platinum C nib on my 3776 is by far the widest nib I have, it’s like a BBBB. I’ve never seen a wider nib, I absolutely love it, but I wonder if it was a manufacturing error. I’ve seen a lot of people say their Pilot C nibs are wider but that’s just not the case for mine. I wonder if Platinum accidentally put too much tipping material on my 3776 C nib. Not that I’m complaining though, it's my favorite C nib.

Big thank you, yours is one of the very few videos that discuss the "C" nib from Platinum.

PS: Perhaps it is called “Coarse” and not BB because of all the characteristics you described here. If they positioned it as BB it would just be another double broad but it sounds like this is not. This is on my next list to try for sure!!

I had my 3776 C nib ground by a nibmeister to a lovely architect nib. The C felt like a big magic marker to me. I love the 3776 B nibs, and I have large handwriting, but the C was too much for me. The beauty of a big nib tip like the C, is a nibmeister has a lot to work with. One of My Sailor 1911L was a Zoom nib and is now a lovely custom stub nib.

I'm curious to try the 3776 B nib. That's the one nib in the whole line I haven't ever written with before

I don’t care for platinum EF and F, they are just too fine. Medium is awesome…but the B I have is my favorite nib. I love everything about the 3776. I love the weight, the style, the way it feels in my hand, the way it writes - just an awesome pen. I’ve thought about getting another one of their special edition models, waiting for one to really tempt me, and maybe I’ll get the C

I have never seen nor heard of this nib. I was considering the music nib but now, I have something to think about. Great demonstration of the nib. Curiously, how does it do reverse writing?
@seattlepenclub

actually fairly smooth for reverse writing - writes like a medium in reverse. I don't ever use my pens that way though haha

@@seattlepenclub I always test the nibs that way. One of my earliest pens is a Parker 180 that was made specifically for the purpose. I like the idea of having two widths on a nib. Sometimes the paper will make a nib too wide for my taste and so I will use the other side.

I like the C nib, but I can’t use it all the time. But it is often inked. The platinum music nib is one of my favorite nibs. I like it better than the Sailor or Pilot.

As an artist I have to strongly disagree with what you say about the Platinum ultra extra fine nib. It creates beautiful and delicate cross hatching. It is far superior in this regard than any of the Pilot pens I have including the 743 and certainly their extra fine metal nib. It is not a pen suited for day to day writing unless you write very small. I enjoy your reviews but it is important to realize that pens are used for different functions and perform differently accordingly. I love my Pilot pens but for cross hatching that is very fine the 3776 is great and also affordable.

I appreciate your perspective! Like I said in the video, those nibs are not for me in my use case but they're incredibly popular so I'm sure they're great for their intended purpose.

Thanks for sharing your little bit of experience with your new Coarse nib! The writing does look super smooth! I can see myself writing print lettering with that xD but I'd do terribly with cursive. Would you say the Platinum C is the same as Pilot Custom 823's M or B nib?
@seattlepenclub
@seattlepenclub Жыл бұрын
The Platinum C is broader than the #15 Pilot M and B. In my experience, the #15 Pilot M is on the fine side of medium. I'd say the Platinum C is close to a Pilot #15 BB or C nib.

Good info, thanks. I've been tempted by both the UEF and the C, but seem to be doing fine without them. Though if Sailor made 'em, I'd buy 'em.

The Sailor is as fine as the Platinum , Marco Chiari has done a comparative video with all the extra fine nibs on the market. Pilot , has the finest line of all. Search for him on KZbin.

@@seattlepenclub Well I ended up buying one on amazon. I looked all over for an American retailer but none of them had a COURSE nib, they all are called BB or double broad so maybe in the US that's what they call the C nib. We'll see when I get it I guess!

We all need friends like you have! None of my friends want to bring me back premium level fountain pens from anywhere, lol! I have noticed that a lot of Japanese fountain pens (i.e.: Sailor, Pilot) have that "Montblanc-y" traditional cigar-style. Have you noticed that??

Would've liked seeing the C nib compared with Platinum's B and Music nibs. Their Music nib (along with the right ink and the right paper) blasted open the world of fountain pens for me. The Fine(s) and Medium would have sealed it shut.
