You’ve got enough area on that property to look into some permaculture sections and building up a nice little wildlife area. That would be a great contrast to the field of grass at the front!

Needs more trees! Would help with all the wind as well. If there was a row of trees between their property and that farmer's field it would create a really nice wind break. Might block the view a bit, but honestly trees are pretty nice to look at anyway.

I love that when you look at barren spots that just have a few tufts of grass, you don’t disparage it. I might think, “this sucks, how will I ever make this look good.” You seem to approach it with the attitude that every piece of grass is the start to something beautiful. Your patience is inspiring! Also, it’s really fun to see your wife working with you on your passion and really getting into it. What a life! Keep it going my man!

His grass seed choices that he sells are very good. If you have an old lawn with bare spots you may wanna consider doing a full reno and use his seed because his grass was sooooo much greener than my old grass year 1 those sections stood out majorly compared to the surrounding grass

I'd like your opinion on pre-germinating seed. Seems like a great way to avoid washouts and get the grass growing faster, but I think it might have some downsides like not promoting root development, just green shoots.

My landscaper used the straw netting on our yard last year, and I wasn't sure if we had to remove the netting at some point. He said not to and that the plastic netting would "biodegrade". Well, now almost a year later we have a mess of plastic netting sticking up out of the ground. There's areas where the straw just packed down and didn't let any grass grow. So now I've been out raking as much of the straw up as possible to get to bare dirt in hopes of filling in the bare spots. We still have the plastic netting mess and hopefully over time it will get cut up with the mower (another cleanup problem). Was my landscaper wrong in advising us not to bother removing the straw netting?
@jimmaul

Is it straw or plastic? You've said both here so it isn't clear. Straw should eventually decompose but plastic will be around forever.
@mattskillman

@@jimmaul the netting is plastic and had the straw woven through it. The plastic is now pretty brittle, but its a mess where it is still sticking out of the ground.

I just picked up a couple of those straw matts from menards. I am fighting some washout. Do I re-level it risking hurting the grass that is already growing? Or do I let the grass grow and then fill in the spots later where the washout occured?

Hey Ryan huge fan of your channel . Just have a question for you. I moved into my new house this past winter and now moving into spring I’ve noticed in the backyard after having rain for like 5 days straight and then no rain for like 3 the grass is still soaked . Is this due to compaction and should I aerate and put some humic acid down ? I can’t even cut the grass how wet it is.
@ryanknorrlawncare
@ryanknorrlawncare Жыл бұрын
Probably heavy soils that don't drain well and possibly compaction. You might need more time to see how it reacts long term but humic won't be any magic formula for that. You can certainly aerate and see what kind of cores you can pull to get a better look at it.

Ryan, it’s May 10th and I missed out on my pre emergent. Now I have grass growing and weeds and lots of clover. I’d like to put a spray weed killer down. Can I put down milorganite down with that or should I wait. Or should I do the milorganite 1st and wait to spray. Watched a couple older videos and really didn’t see a definite answer to that. Thanks. BTW, I’m in the Midwest if that matters.

This Elite Fescue is popping off like crazy! I do have a question though. Since my seedlings are about 3-4weeks old and about 3" tall. Is it a bad idea to put down some GreenOrr or some MaxORR this early? Is the nitrogen going to burn the little guys. When I planted I just used a quick release 10-10-10.

I usually wait for a few mows in to make sure they're hardy and ready for more fert. A low low dose might be ok but then I would prefer to spray that rather than spread. That's just me though!

I think I’m going to run over to the store and buy a battery pack sprayer. Using liquid I agree is going to react better because its applying straight to the grass itself. What product of yours is considered a light dose

I bought a place like yours a couple years ago. Not as big of a property, but still more than i can grass in a season. Ive been taking it in smaller sections as well. Ive been using my quad and drag to break things up, and then seeding and covering with peat moss which has been expensive. I really want to try those seed/erosion blankets. Is that your preferred method? I still have about 3/4 of an acre i need to plant, will be working on killing off the weeds this summer.

I have been using the well pretty much exclusively except for one small area and I don't see any major differences. In theory I'd prefer to just pull water from the ground with the well and not use something that has been treated specifically for drinking etc
