Love your detailed comparison! Great work, and thank you. Having used both of these cameras professionally, I can tell you that yes - you don’t get “$2.5k more image quality” out of the 100Sii . . . But the ergonomics of that camera, for longer professional shoots (especially shooting vertically), are awful. The deeper grip of the 100ii is immediately more comfortable; combined with the optional vertical grip and extra batteries, means a longer shoot is more comfortable on the hands - even with the added weight. Also, when shooting on media, faster CF-B cards in the 100ii rarely limit the buffer, offer faster downloads, are more rugged. I’ve never been so happy to leave fragile SD cards behind. While testing it, I bricked the 100Sii twice in professional use, where the camera literally overheated and prevented me from shooting any further until it cooled down . . . Shooting STILLS. 🤷🏻‍♂️ This would have been a disaster had I not had the 100ii on hand! I’ve certainly hit the buffer limit on the 100ii, but it’s never bricked me. The worst of both of these bodies is the abysmal shutter sync of 1/125s; I shouldn’t have to use HSS just to get 1/250s for professional flash photography. If Fuji would produce a few leaf shutter lenses, this would be tenable . . . But there’s already electronic shutter built in, so a faster sync speed is already doable. I really wish Fuji would make a specific edition of the GFX just for stills: strip out all the video functions, give us all the pro stills features, a super-fast sensor readout and chip set, refined ergo’s, and all the accessories Pro shooters need (and prosumers might enjoy). . . Please Fuji, pretty please?! 😉

A super interesting video as always! I went for the 100 ii over the s ii despite the price difference (though here in the UK it’s £6,999 vs £4,999 and there was recently a £400 trade in bonus for the 100 ii which all makes the pricing closer). For me, the choice was really about all the extra functionality…those extra buttons on the 100 ii do make a difference. Also the design and amazing viewfinder. Although the 100 ii is larger, it fits in a bag better without the viewfinder, and can actually be more compact/discrete shooting this way on a tripod at night. My only complaint…at this price, it’s firmly in Leica/Hasselblad territory and the packaging experience is disappointing. Just a nice pouch to protect the viewfinder in my bag would have been nice! I’d be interested to hear your thoughts about that…

Thanks for sharing. And your comment is spot-on, Fuji could be a bit more generous with, e.g., some protection box for the removable EVF, etc. :)

I think both sensor are basically the same, but yes there is an extra layer for High Speed, my test show same colors, dynamic range. So if we speak about image quality, same results, if we speak about "action", less rolling shutter in video, more video shutter, autofocus yes, this one brings improvement. I reviewed both on my channel and actually bought the 100SII for myself. Great video, thank you.

Hi I just wanted to say I have been out of the pro scene for about 10-12 years now and decided to to have a Quick Look into what technology has come in for medium format cameras ! This is something I was interested in going up to from 35mm in the past but the expense was difference was huge but now it looks like Fuji has bridged that gap now. Thank you for such a detailed video on these 2 cameras mate you definitely have given a decent review on the difference between these 2 models… id really love to see a panorama digital medium format camera but I’d be wishful thinking I’d say on looking for one 😂👍🏾😎

Excellent review, thank you for all the details you provided. As the current owner of the original GFX 50s and new GFX 100 II (and former owner of a 100s) I wanted to mention a couple of minor points. 1) In the differences between the terminals or ports on each camera in your comparison, you did not point out that the 100s II has a 2.5mm remote terminal on the grip side near the door for the SD cards. The 100 II, by comparison, and for a reason I still don’t understand, has a 3.5mm Mic/Remote port on the opposite side just above the HDMI port. I’ve had 3 GFX cameras and needed a different remote for each one. Fujifilm, please be more consistent (I, for one, prefer the remote location on the grip side). 2) In your description of the workings of the EVF tilt adapter the locking lever does not lock the adapter to the camera body. This lever, when unlocked, allows the adapter and mounted EVF to pivot left and right. When locked, the viewfinder will stay in whatever position you locked it in. So the tilt adapter allows left and right as well as up and down movement of the EVF. Only the two buttons on the side of the tilt adapter lock it to the body.

Thank you for the side-by-side comparison, that is very helpful. The two sensors are different. This is directly said by Fuji official people, no need to guess or reverse engineer )) I have to admit I had a strong prejudgment against the "HS" (100 II) version because of this recent trend across the brands to make higher-speed sensors sacrificing dynamic range. This trend is totally unacceptable for me, and I was seriously worry if I switch from my 6 y.old GFX 50S (the original version) to 100 II, will it be a de facto downgrade??? I noticed some opinions on the web that the HS sensor gives better results and could not believe it because of my a priori negative perception of that "high speed" trend. Bu! I do believe my eyes! In your comparison, actually there IS a difference, I can see it quite consistently as finer color nuances and "continuity" of the tone in the 100 II (yes, "HS"!) sensor. WOW! So, the 100 II seems to be the best of the two worlds, being both faster and with an edge in IQ. I think I am convinced )

Hi 👋 excellent as usual. What I do see it at around 25:20 is a slight color cast difference in the background behind the X2D as well as in the reds on the left side of the image but maybe this is just me (and can probably be neglected) 😅. Was able to rent the 100ii and loved it despite the size. 😊 My X2D was smaller and slightly better built but the GFX is probably what I would get if I liked to have only one. My next GFX will be paired with my XH2S ❤

Thank you for your usual excellent review, if I could add one point, the GFX 100II is a more rugged and weather sealed camera. The autofocus is also faster and more certain in my opinion. I have used it in very challenging weather conditions in a number of countries with no problems. If you are a professional who works like this, then the GFX100II is worth the extra money.

Super Video. As always. Peace Out 😊

For me the GFX 100 II only have one advantage over the GFX 100S II and that is the superb EVF, but the price difference are too high, the GFX 100 II is also a bit too big and heavy compared to the GFX 100 S II ! If a GFX 100S III comes with the EVF from the GFX 100 II, just build-in, not detachable and if does make a GFX 100S III too big and heavy it will be very nice, it will be great if the EVF sit in the corner of the Camera !!!

Great insight on the GFX's..thank you..fairly new to the Fuji GFX bodies..just curious, on the video you have the cameras off..and yet the display screen still has the info..why is that? does it take like 30 seconds or something to go completely blank and option in the menus?....thanks Also..its kinda funny different how FUJI designed their "battery grips"..other brands incorporate the "electronic connection" within the actual battery compartment and fits in like a regular battery shape..hence giving you that "L shape"..type look..and by that logic if Fuji did that same classic design..they could easily make a grip for the 100SII..just an opinion..lol

I really don't think the read out speed is such an issue because it's not gonna be a sports camera even we're shooting portraits. You should maybe 15 or 20 frames in a quick burst but that's gonna be fine. I don't think having the HS is such a big deal to be quite honest? Generally GFX cameras are not used for sports you can shoot sports and wildlife with them but it's not they go. I don't see that as being a really big issue. I actually think the S model is the far better value camera? It's also smaller and significantly lighter and no one really does video on a GFX camera maybe a few people but that seems the better choice

Not apples to apples but maybe - photography comparison between all these 3 and videography comparison between the first two. Thanks for your comment. I will consider to do some more camera comparisons going forward, seriously. If I could have only one camera it would be the Leica SL3 although this camera currently seems to have a firmware bug which will be fixed very soon by Leica. If I could carry in addition a backup camera it would be the Fuji GFX100II since then I have diversity in camera sensors. The Nikon Z8 and Z9 have the same sensor size as the Leica SL3 so would not be a complementary choice although excellent cameras :)

@@mathphotographer Very interesting choices. Imagine a scenario, where - 1. you are given a choice of having ONLY - all total of 3 cameras in as much portable form factor as possible for photography and cinematography. (can not be any fixed lens camera) 2. Any professional or personal or hobby work you do can only be limited to those 3 cameras and only you as one person shooter (which is why portable factor added). 3. No budget constraints One grand or hundred grand, don't matter. Also no limitations on lens just the body. 4. And one of the 3 cameras must be portable enough so it can be carried in backpack or as and EDC. What would you choose? You don't have to answer if you don't want. But I hope atleast you will make some videos based on these kind of concepts.

I don’t think it’s fair to surmise the two sensors are different without knowing more information. The 100S II could have been software limited because of the choice to not include a CF express card slot. What is the max write speed of an SD card for 16bit uncompressed raw 102 megapixel images? How much heat would be generated transferring that much data? What is the pixel clock rate for both sensors? You need to dig more before making such a bold assumption.

@@jlehm Thanks for your comment. My assumption is based on the difference in the official Fuji specifications as shown on page 1 at specifications comparison in the video. @mathphotographer
@mathphotographer Ай бұрын
@@jlehm Good point but I think (might be mistaken) that the readout time of a sensor is a hardware property. Its the physical limitation how fast the sensor readout line by line can be done. Its different of course if you have a global shutter which by now is only in a recent Sony Alpha camera implemented. I personally think Fuji should be more specific on readout times of their sensors since for the use of electronic shutter it makes a big difference what readout time is possible with a certain sensor. For my Hasselblad X2D for instance the electronic shutter is hardly usable because the readout time of the Hassy sensor is so slow that you get signfificant rolling shutter effects as soon as you have moving subjects in the scene. If that could be fixed by simple software/firmware, I am 100% sure Hasselblad would do it :)
