I’d love for the A7IV to have 30-36mp sensor. New AF focus from the latest cameras. Better EVF resolution, full flippy touch screen/ new menus, ergonomics from A7rIV, 4K 60p, 10bit 4.2.2. Pretty much all the quality of life improvements. Active stabilization setting. And the new color science. And if it comes out at a price around $2000-2500 I think it would be a great seller. This camera would need to compete spec and price wise with the R6.

Really impressed with the R5 so far, it is winter here in Aus but shot through a friends entire soccer game, only went through half a battery and had no heat issues, took over 1000 sport shots and tested out a few video modes too... really amazed by its capabilities so far!

I just bought Sony A6400 and love everything about the camera. I was hoping to buy Sony full-frame camera but the A7iii is too expensive. Hopefully the rumored Sony A5 will be a lot cheaper and has good features.

I hope the A7iv keeps the same 24mp sensor and gives us similar bit rates and video specs as the a7siii but down sampled 4k instead of straight 4k. I also think they might add 6k 24/30fps just to up the game a little. And of course fix all the little issues the A7iii has like external monitor stuff, autofocus limitations, better brighter touch monitor that flips up and out like Panasonic add tracking, prores in camera, slightly larger grip, and add a video button like on the ZV-1. $2700

I can't wait to see review videos of actual production Canons to see if the overheating issue is still and issue, especially on the R6. I'm also waiting to see review videos of the Sony a7s iii once they ship. You never know, maybe both manufacturers have fixed issues or improved features. I assume Canon at least tried to fix the overheating issue as I'm sure the reviewers of pre-production models sent them comments about that.

I think a7IV will only do 4k 60p 10bit 4.2.2 not the 120p as the S III. But if they can offer 4k60p 10bit 4.2.2 for around $2000 that's another win for Sony!

Yeah I don't know if they would handicap their A7SIII sales by putting all that in the A7IV. If they do that I don't expect the Sony A7IV to come out this year. Sometime next year would be better so they can get 1 year of sales with the A7SIII.

Probably wishful thinking, but I would love to see an APS-C with 30+ megapixels (like the Canon EOS M6ii), a faster max shutter speed, and better low-light performance, on top of the features on the 6600.

I think Sony has to make a tough decision on what they are going to include on the A7IV. If they put too much, they risk handicapping their sales on the A7SIII. For that reason I don't think the A7IV will release this year. I'm guessing wait about a year and take advantage and sell as many A7SIII as possible

That'd be a shame. I need to replace my A7II. Been waiting for the A7IV but I also have a bunch of canon lenses so I'm considering the EOS R6. I'm definitely upgrading this year so it'll be the R6 by the holiday if no A7IV announcement.

I view it differently. The A7Siii is primarily aimed at video shooters. The A74 can be an all rounder. With a possible entry level A5 on the way, the A74 doesn't need to entry level any more. It can push up to a slightly higher level. With a higher MP sensor than the A7Siii then it can leave out the best and highest video frame rates. Perfectly capable except for the most demanding video shooters. Therefore the A7Siii won't compete directly with the A74.

speaking of aps-c, I think more professional aps c with a7 series body and 4k60p 10bit 422 no limitation is a good idea for sony to compete with xt4. it will be great for budget professional sony system. I don't know, maybe a7000?

Sony, please release an A7iv with everything the same as the new A7Siii except swap the sensor for a 24-28mp. Sure there may be compromises on video capabilities, like "only" 4k60p, that's ok! Bonus is there is no need to retool production for a new body. Just stick a different badge on. Perfect.

While Sony was busy making the high grade APSC camera A6600, Canon was working on its strategy to get a checkmate with the FF RP. Sony should have came out with the A6100 & A6400 as APSC's, but with the A6600 make that the entry level FF. Now with pricing, as of today on Sony.com A6100 $750 A6300 $900 A6400 $900 A7ii $900 A7 $1,000

If the a7iv has to be 24 Mp, the video specs has to be decent, full 4k 60fps uhd, 30, 24fps dci, 4.2.2 10 bit in 4k and fhd, 180fps in fhd, varible angle screen, better focus in video"a7siii" focus, new menu system, fully touch, better screen resulotion and better evf"a7riv". Now regarding price :if they get an entry level full frame for 1500usd the a7iv will be acceptable for 2500usd, if they put this specs in the a7iv the will get back the market for best hybrid fullframe camera just like 2018 and the lens sales will be great for their market share by the holidays season. Otherwise people beginner and pro shooters will start looking else where for better hybrid systems

The footage that I have seen from people who received the R5 is amazing so far even in low light. It looks like it gets 5 stops of IS with EF lenses and 8 stops with RF lenses. The cost of the camera plus RF lenses puts the R5 out of my league. I hope Canon or a 3rd party mitigate the heat issues by the time I can afford it' I think the A7S III and the Canon overheating issues were enough to keep Sony hybrid users waiting for the next Sony Alpha. The A7S III is more of a video camera.

I also think this is a better way to go. Standardise the body across the range. Use the Z battery. New hotshoe, new card slots. Leverage economies of scale with production to bring the costs down. Swap out different sensors, e.g. FF or APS-C. High MP, and lower MP variants. Everyone wins.

Sony needs to bring out a cheap but great entry-level FF camera to compete with RP and Z5 as soon as possible! That's an urgent move needed to be done. As the class as named entry-level means it's the entrance for many enthusiaserrors so if there is no product you can't keep the new generation sticking with your older generation products only cause they are cheap like a72,also there is no high end apsc camera in sony mirrorless lineup like the DSLR a77...sony says apsc sensor is great video centric...so where is the a7s3's apsc version??? Also the a6xxx series looks to be in too much crowd...not enough difference between 6100 and 6400 and none of them are cheap enough for the most of apsc entry-level users...even the legend a6000 is too old and a bit pricy, maybe it's time to update the 5100 but try to keep it priced around 300$ for the body? That's the only way you can sell a camera without an EVF. But a FF body without an EVF would be a total disastrous selling decision! EVF not a must for a video centric camera so a cheap apsc would make a good option... BUT! Viewfinder is a must for photography centric cameras! So even an entry-level FF never should pass on it!

Though I don't think Sony will ever have a interchangeable lens camera brand new for $300, they may drop the price of the A6000 to $400 to get rid of the ones they still have in the warehouse but thats it. It would be nice, but I don't think they would. Grey market you can sometimes find them cheaper than $350 though.

Soooooo basically. Sony had the camera ready for release knowing they had a lot of customers ready to upgrade/buy and they still decided not to release it because based on what Nikon, Canon and Panasonic was doing. That explains why this camera feels so 2018. Very telling of a company was once known to be “first and innovative”.

@@a1exsand Call it whatever you want. They had already spent the money and done the R&D and pretty much had the product ready and decided not to release it. Sony is LUCKY that Canon is experiencing massive overheating issues because it lowers the appeal of the R5 as a competitive video camera. But before the release of the and A7Siii. SONY USERS were complaining about the A7siii taking so long to come out with simple features like 4k60 and 10 bit 422 which lead a few users to look elsewhere at cameras like a BMPCC or XT3. Sony had plenty of competition they just didn't take it seriously.

And they took themselves out of the race with that overheating and all the bad press it is getting. At this point Canon is better off with their flagship DSLR 1DX Mark 3.

@@a1exsand ok so we are blurring the lines here. Because if you are serious about video performance then cameras like the Black Magic and the likes of it were actually considered competition. I know at least two different people that switched from Sony one to a Black Magic and the other to a Panasonic for video because of the overheating and limited video performance of the Sony A7siii. If you are talking about hybrid performance then Fuji and Nikon both have a fighting chance because I know of people who switched for those reasons as well. When I say "feels so 2018" it's because most of the features that people are excited about are things that people have been asking for since 2018 (better menus, flip out screen, 10 bit 422, etc... 4k120 is awesome and RAW video is awesome. But there was a time when Sony released a camera and had features that the other manufactures hadn't even though of. Now it seems they are the ones doing the safe and reliable releases.
