I just found that if you plug this Gabor texture into the vector of a noise texture, you can get a precedural wood texture pretty fast, even with all default settings
@butterscotchpanda29 күн бұрын
This is such an insanely useful tip. I've always hated doing wood textures because of how finicky they can get, but this got me a passable one within _seconds_ with only very minimal adjustments needed. I personally found that upping the roughness on the Noise Texture helps to blend some of those harsh lines into more pleasing gradients that look much more varied, like real wood.

Omg thank you! I’ve been looking for a way to do wood. It’s so hard!…no pun intended

@@airtrack2010 very true. noise passed into a vector slot makes it not only wavy but texturey. +noise. you can also use the same for ceramic patterned tiles.

I think this would be a really useful node for generating a texture for the gills of a mushroom. I'm looking forward to messing around with it -- thank you for the quick demo!
@darrennew8211Ай бұрын
According to wikipedia, it's designed to allow for recognizing particular parts of images, like what direction most of the lines are going. I suspect it would be useful if you want to take an image and multiply it by gabor to get things like mostly the horizontal lines in the image texture. Cool stuff.

@@101touchapps I just mean this node will be nice when making a procedural texture for a space scene with a planet in the background.

I saw the pattern the 2:30 mark and it reminds me a bit of a pearl inlay you'd see in jewelry or decorative boxes. Now to see if we can recreate the reflective qualities as well!
