Great Setup! Last summer i have bought a second hand terrarium with a Crusted Gecko. I have made my own setup with bioactive soil. It works great. Next week i can buy a second hand terrarium with a Garter Snake. I also put in bioactive soil and some plants. Thanks for your instruction video. Enjoy your weekend and Coffee!😃☕. Very nice setup how was your day today
@cloudcolubrids46032 жыл бұрын
It was good I'm feeding my new garter snakes fish for the first time let's see how it goes
Added note oh, you said that Puget Sound garter snakes don't like high humidity and they are a warm climate snake. I am native to the Puget Sound. It rains all the time. Our entire summer is crammed into the month of July where you will get temperatures in the mid-to-high 90s. The rest of the year it's a good day if you hit 65 degrees. For instance today it is 67 degrees and I just caught one of these snakes
@cloudcolubrids4603 Жыл бұрын
I appreciate the information on the native climate of these snakes. There's a big difference between the wild and a small tank. In the wild, when it rains a lot, they definitely would come out a lot and do fine, but they have little hide aways they can go to that are dry if they choose. In a smaller enclosure its not recommended to keep the humidity high unless they have a huge space with dry areas. Constant high humidity with wetness can cause scale rot. Like Brazilian rainbow Boas, I keep them very moist and humid they love it, but for the garters, it's not recommended. If I had a huge enclosure with burrows and areas, they could stay dry if needed, and then it would definitely work

Thanks and yes just type in Google Steven Bol and his website comes up. The downside is he lives in Netherlands so shipping is expensive but the cost for the snakes are cheaper than here in USA. He is one of the best Garter snake Breeders. There are a few here in the states but most of the time they have people on waiting list and won't have any available until the following year

What size and type of enclosure would you recommend for two 6-7" garters? It will be bioactive.
@cloudcolubrids4603 Жыл бұрын
Thats pretty small I'd go small like a 10-20 gallon. 10 gallon is fine if there very small so you can find them and when feeding time comes it will be easier. What I did was kept my pair in bins until they hit a more suitable size and then put them in the larger enclosure
@NielD-g1yАй бұрын
beautifully set up. the only thing is one of those plants is going to die because two of them are desert succulents and the other two are high humidity dependent plants :/

I need some help! I am trying to make a nice paludarium where the main animal is 2 garter snakes, I would maybe want a 50-70 gallon tank because that's what people usually recommend. I was going to make it its own ecosystem with a lot of things like worms (the ones they can eat), snails + slugs, isopods, springtails, and probably for the water area freshwater snails and platyfish. I kind of want the snakes to live off of the stuff in the tank, so I would obviously let everything grow before introducing them. I saw a few tanks and some had lots of leaf litter, rocks, hides, everything, and I thought that that could keep the moisture from the substrate off of them? Also, a worry I have is captive-bred garters not actually hunting like a normal snake, I have no idea if their natural instincts will be gone or something but really anything helps! :)
@broskinie71682 жыл бұрын
I was also worried that the fish and other animals would be really stressed being in the same place as the snakes, but I was planning on getting a wide tank with lots of hiding spaces but I don't know if that'll do. I did see in this video the water dish being small but I'm assuming that the type of garter you got doesn't like swimming because everything I see has that they enjoy swimming. I think the leaves, bark, etc will be enough for them not to have their skin touching things that are moist all the time. I am planning on getting a mist king system, but it could be too expensive. Any help would be really appreciated! :)

Hey bro love your videos. I've been binge watching your channel all day. What happens if the room gets to hot, like over 100°F? And how do you sex your baby snakes? Is it hard to tell and do you have to wait until they get a certain age? Will you ever have a hatching video?
@cloudcolubrids46032 жыл бұрын
Hey I'm humbled by your comment. Thank you ☕️. My snake room stays at 78-80. In the event we lose power even on the hottest days the house never exceeds 85 so I won't have that issue unless I move to Arizona or Las Vegas and lose power which would be horrible. In that event I'd just put all the snakes in plastic show box's that I have on hand and take them to another air conditioned place. I think 100 plus may harm them and wouldn't take a chance. It's not that hard to sex babies you can use the popping method or probe them. I prefer to probe since it's easier and more accurate. Popping can be tricky. Yes I will be doing videos on all stages of breeding and as they hatch and all that good stuff I will have videos. Be safe and have a good weekend
