Hey Rodney, excellent review! Highly informative, spoken well, with all the needed information. You are very accomplished doing your reviews. If I had that bike I would get the Taco moto mods definitely. Thanks

@jondotcom8706 Have you ever ridden a vortex? All the ECUs are noticeably better compared to stock.

If the ECU fails for whatever reason does the bike just stop ? Imagine being miles out in the desert and the ECU fries .

Yes, it can happen even on stock ecus.@@SomewhereInside

I agree 100%. I've owned the Vortex, AIM and GET (in that order) for the CRF450RL. And the GET is the creme da la creme of the ECU's. It produces the most power and does it all while getting the best fuel economy. The boost in fuel economy alone is worth it for me. The Vortex runs quite rich. The GET gave me about a 10-20% increase in fuel economy over the Vortex.

I’m using the AIM. The Vortex was on back order when I got my 450 and the AIM was considerably more affordable than the GET. I don’t feel like the bike is ever lacking in power for my use. I do quite a bit of tight woods single track, so it sounds like I arrived at the best ECU for my usage, even if by accident. I still run the stock exhaust, so I just got the toggle switch for full power and enduro power. I think I’d just confuse myself with all the options if there were any more.

That sounds good for me. I don't want to complicate things too much. I'm actually thinking about looking for an old, carburetted XR600.

I agree, especially when the choice of "music" is cringe. My music is the sound of the bike operating.

I have the Vortex. I’ve thought about upgrading the ECU but honestly, it won’t do anything for me. The Vortex is just fine. I wouldn’t mind better traction control to dial it in but yeah, old school.
@kbmotorsportsonline Жыл бұрын
My favorite ECU to date is the Vortex ECU. The Vortex has the longest durability record with the best out of box tunes. I never had a customer ask to exchange it for one of the other two brands. Hopefully AIM and GET will become just as user friendly and be just as durable long term.
@MobMoto Жыл бұрын
Do you only sell the Vortex? Durability? I don't think any of the ECUs have any known durability issues.

Hi there - my '23 CRF450RL came with a Vortex and full FMF Q4 system, love it all. The ONLY problem I'm having consistently with the Vortex are 'hot starts'. Meaning I stop for a nature break (2 - 5 mins) or food and when I go to restart, it struggles. It got so bad this past weekend, considering the GET or a different bike, I know....knee jerk reaction, but I ride solo a lot in Western CO and get pretty far out there. Thanks for reading.

Something else to consider for the GET v. Vortex, the vortex does run rich and ultimately for the bike to get more power will have to run more lean, which I'm guessing the GET is accomplishing. I personally asked San Diego powerhouse if I could run a more lean map on the stage 2 and they said it wouldn't be smart because it would damage the engine. Keep in mind the stage 2 is a different beast than the stage 1. Just food for thought.
@MobMoto Жыл бұрын
The vortex is rich to accommodate more bikes, it’s kind of a generic do all map. More power is gonna equal more wear. Same reason Honda de-tunes them, but that doesn’t mean the get is unsafe compared to vortex and it doesn’t mean the Get is running too lean. The vortex only has a high mid and low, the Get has like 20 different sections on the power curve that’s all adjustable. The vortex is like more than 7 years old. I’m not sure exactly what you mean by stage 1 and 2.
@jeffosland5447 Жыл бұрын
Stage 1 is just the ECU upgrade, stage 2 is ECU and cam. The cam profile is to mimic the RX. I like the idea of the GET, but unfortunately my vortex has been tuned for the stage 2 and I don't want to take any chances on detonation 😂
@jeffosland5447 Жыл бұрын
I should also clarify I think they classify stage one by exhaust and ECU and stage two by completing stage 1 and adding a cam and or porting and polishing the valves
@MobMoto Жыл бұрын
@@jeffosland5447 Thats what I thought you meant. Taco Moto is working on it, they got something for that in the pipe line.
@davidsalo8397 Жыл бұрын
I felt my AIM ECU was too rich. You could start the bike cold and easily take off. The GET SX-1 is definitely leaner. Takes awhile to warm up compared to the AIM. The GET SX-1 definitely gets better gas mileage. Really happy with the GET.

Great review! Very well done.. Thank you! (liked) I have the Aim. My "aim" is to have the smoothest response off the bottom, with the least flame-outs. Not sure if going to the new Get will help in that dept. or not. My Aim doesn't like cold weather as well as the Vortex, but the Aim flames-out less.. May have to sell the Aim w/ multi-controller and laptop interface, and try out the new Get.. Thanks again!
@MobMoto Жыл бұрын
The aim is great for that. Ive never been in cold so I don't get flameouts on any of them but I'm surprised you do with the vortex. Vortex seems to push more fuel to compensate for variations in conditions.
@biophillie Жыл бұрын
@@MobMoto -- I get the same feeling about the vortex. Sort of "when in doubt, add more juice". The vortex definitely gets the power out of the 450. Bought my 'L" used and it had the vortex/RS4 spark arrestor insert. Top of airbox removed, unifilter. Ran great except for flame-outs at the worst times. Got the Aim. Less f.o., little smoother off the bottom, maybe more torque, but the vortex pulls hard on the top for sure. If I was racing, would use the vortex. Just putting and navigating tricky stuff at slow speed, climbing slippery, steep hills, the Aim with traction control does make things easier. Using the Aim with the vortex as a spare just in case. Realistically, we are splitting hairs, as they are very close. Sorry so long, just sayin.
@davidsalo8397 Жыл бұрын
My first ECU was the AIM. Better than stock, but it still had erratic low speed jerkiness in 1st and 2nd gear resulting in stalling. Taco Moto gave me credit for a SX-1. Much better! No stalling! No jerking. My Honda 450 RL absolutely rips now! 😁

Sorry for the late post. However, some reviewers with an ECU and Rekluse complain about stalling after installing a flywheel. It seems you have a Rekluse and a flywheel and your bike is running smoothly without stalling! Any thoughts? This 1 small issue is preventing me from getting a CRF450RL and loading up at TacoMoto. Thanks!
@MobMotoАй бұрын
I don’t run the rekluse clutch. I have an aftermarket clutch cover but no rekluse clutch. There is no stalling with an aftermarket ecu, proper idle, and a flywheel weight. I can let the clutch out in first gear with no throttle and the bike will tractor on its own. Get sx1 with a flywheel weight is the best throttle response you can get on a Honda 450rl hands down.

New sub, great content! So I have a T7, it's big and heavy. I'm more familiar with bikes 1/2 the weight of the T7 (452lbs dry). And for whatever reason, I just discovered the CRF450RL. With the mods you have suggested, this bike is prolly the best answer to my desire to go places the T7's weight keeps me out of. It's still tall for me, but I'm excited to at least consider the swap. Is there a model year I should stay away from?
