The new Stadler built trains on the Glasgow Subway are now in passenger service! I went to visit SPT's Broomloan Depot for a closer look in the depot, and ride some trains on the subway ...

There's also an article in the new Modern Railways who also visited the depot about the New Rolling Stock: bit.ly/MRApril24

@Scotmend 19 күн бұрын
@@Arltratlo That's rude. Look, I get your point, but you failed to mention the huge population gap between Switzerland and the UK. With more people, keeping things 'clean' becomes tougher. The biggest 'city' in Switzerland is like a medium sized town in England. In Scotland, Glasgow has a population (full time residents not commuters) of 635,000, nearly 6 times the volume of Lausanne, on top of that the population in British cities swells with commuters so that takes it up into way more then the 6x mark. This is of course not even mentioning London which has a population approaching 10 million people and clears well over that with commuters and tourist (more then the entire swiss population). As is always the case, each country has its own strengths and challenges, if you aren't going to at least be civil when discussing other people's nations then honestly keep your opinions to yourself because frankly, you sound stupid and your grammar is terrible, sincerely a Brit/Scot.

@@liamness The nuremberg metro doesn't have platform doors even on their driverless lines. So it's not really a hard requirement, it's just the much better solution. @katrinabryce , nope definitely only the 3rd set as the original sets from 1894 ran continuously right up to the closure and the redevelopment in the late 70s early 80s. The reason for the redevelopment was due to the age of the trains as they were struggling to keep the trains running due to their age and lack of spares. Yes there were upgrades from when it changed from the pulley system to electrification ie the gate doors changed to fully enclosed auto door but it was still the same carriages.

In may ways, the Tyne and Wear Metro is the cousin of the Glasgow Subway, mainly through the 70s Subway modernisation and the conversion of BR lines and tunnels built for the Metro. Similar architectural designs were used, and trains were both sourced form Metro-Cammell. The Met-Camm fleets have served both locations well, but were firmly a product of their time, built to a budget and share issues with corrosion (other issues are far worse on the T&W Metro fleet). With the new Stadler fleets being built on both networks, the kinship continues 🙂

As a Glaswegian originally, I have no bother with the accents, not been on the subway since they were introduced but should be down in the next couple of weeks and looking forward to trying to bag a ride on a new unit and an older one, hopefully a couple get preserved!

As kids we used to “sneak “ down stairs at Govan cross station and choose which direction to explore, always finishing Copland road ( now Ibrox) station where we had to sneak past ticket desk, though I’m sure they were well aware of whereabouts. Late 50s, happy days 😊
