You have no idea (well maybe you do) how awesome your videos are. I've spent so many hours trying to understand videos by other organizations that are supposed to be "easy". Those other folks couldn't write instructions on how to breathe if they wanted to, much less on how to root an Android phone. Keep up the excellent work!

Your videos are outstanding. This process worked very well on a new Pixel 7 pro. A couple of things to note for people that are attempting this and are not super* familiar with how the phone transfers files from the PC to the Android device and back again. When you phone is attached to the PC via the USB cable you need to swipe down on the phone and tap on the "Charging this device via USB... Tap for more options" button. From there you must select the "File transfer / Android Auto selection. THEN you will see the Android device show up in your Windows "file explorer" under Devices and drives. One other thing is making sure you can locate the patched Magisk file ON the phone so you can copy it back over to the "ADB and Fastboot" folder. After patching the file - for some reason I had to disconnect my phone, and then reconnect it (by unplugging and then re-plugging the usb cable) for the patched file to show up in Solid Explorer on my phone. THEN it was an easy matter to copy it onto my PC. Excellent job on this video!

Thanks for this video! I was having problems trying to Root my Google Pixel 7 for hours and this fixed it! I tried to Root it using the old way like I normally would do with my Google Pixel 6 I would use the regular boot.img File but now I see that it's changed. I'm not sure why the other Tutorials Online say to use the boot.img File because that doesn't work anymore it makes it so your Phone won't even Boot. I hope soon they make a way to Root using Magisk with just your Phone itself and not a Computer that would sure be nice! But this method is pretty easy! Thanks for these great and helpful videos!

This is the exact reason why I force myself to buy the phones/tablets that I create videos for. I ran into the same issue you had with websites just copy/pasting the same step by step tutorials from last year's model and it ruined the trust I had in them. Doing these videos with the device in my hand helps to show people that I'm doing the exact same thing that I recommend and it shows that what I'm doing actually achieves the end-goal :) thanks for the kind words. Just showing my appreciation for this and your previous video showcasing unlocking the bootloader on the Panther and Cheetah. I'm not new to unlocking bootloaders, rooting, ROMs, kernels, ECT....but I am new to Pixels and how Google has changed where the kernel is now.....have owned Nexus' from the Galaxy Nexus through Nexus 6P, as well as a daily driver Samsung Note 2 through 5 including a Developer Edition, but moved clear across the country to where only Verizon worked and was pretty much forced to use only Samsung devices, so I've reluctantly used a Galaxy S9+ for the past 5yrs 😅 Finally decided to come back and get a Pixel, last Google was a 6P, now 7....so it kinda works out lol(unintentionally), but I needed both a little refresher and to be caught up on some of the file changes Google has made..... you could imagine my surprise while scouring XDA for the first time in over 5yrs searching "Pixel 7 recovery" or "Pixel 7 TWRP" or "Pixel 7 Phil'z" and not coming back with any results 😂 .... I've known about Magisk, but it "really" wasn't used for this for the Nexus. So again, thanks. Just a question, hopefully I can get answered before I start unlocking (I'm not in a rush to, I have updates turned off, I just bought during the sale), does unlocking or rooting with Magisk (or does he have safeties built in) to hide root from Google Pay or anything else that would check or break from root access? Anything that couldn't be fixed by removing root?
@ExplainingAndroid
@ExplainingAndroid Жыл бұрын
hello fellow Nexus friend :) my first phone from Google was the Nexus 4 since I was using iOS before that.I absolutely loved the Nexus 6P as well! I appreciate you taking the time to share this feedback, and your story. It's always nice to hear about other people's path throughout their Android journey. And welcome back! How are you liking the Pixel 7 so far? Sadly, XDA was sold off recently and I haven't seen the same fire with the new team as I used to see (I was a news writer for the XDA portal for a few years, too). Yea, Magisk is a bit different than SuperSU and many things have changed since then. It's sad to not see the developer community as not active as it once was. I think the whole CyanogenMod going corporate (and then imploding) really did some damage. once you unlock the bootloader you will immediately begin failing the full SafetyNet checks. Some apps (like some banking apps) will refuse to open if you are failing certain levels of the SafetyNet check. Some are okay if you only have the bootloader unlocked but will then fail if you install magisk/root the phone. As of right now, there is a way for you to hide all of this and pass those SafetyNet checks - kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5LIcq2VbbSmgMk That video will help you get that set up. But know that this is a cat/mouse game and Google could push out an update that invalidates that patch. It's done a good job so far, but if you're 100% reliant on something that requires safetynet to pass (like Google Pay) then you may want to proceed with caution. I will also point out that Google is currently working on something to replace SafetyNet and it will be much harder for us to bypass. It's being tested right now - developer.android.com/training/safetynet/deprecation-timeline This could just be continuing the cat/mouse game or it could put the final nail in the coffin. However, unlike Samsung phones, Google Pixel phone can be reset (return to 100% stock) and then the bootloader can be relocked. This will let you pass those SafetyNet/Play Integrity API checks again since they aren't reliant on a hardware fuse (like Samsung KNOX uses)

@@ExplainingAndroid haha, thanks! I just have a question, I've heard.of people doing a custom recovery in case something goes wrong, but I am confused as to what that is. What exactly is a custom recovery?
@ExplainingAndroid
@ExplainingAndroid 2 жыл бұрын
@@edwardferrari7342 a custom recovery would replace the software/menu you see when you boot the phone into 'recovery mode' those custom recovery options (twrp, lineageos recovery, etc) tend to have additional features to them (like creating backups of your android/application data) so for example, if you were going to install a new OTA update, there's a chance that it could bootloop the phone (when you're rooted). so it can be a smart thing to create a 'full backup' using a program like TWRP just in case that update goes wrong (if it bootloops the phone, you boot into recovery mode and restore your data from the backup). but twrp can be finicky on new phones and the people behind it just got a version released for Android 12 (so official support for Android 13 could take a while). unofficial builds do sometimes appear on XDA, but they sometimes have bugs and stuff. if you stick with the stock recovery option, and end up in a bootloop, you end up having to do a factory reset/flash the firmware via fastboot mode, which wipes out all of your personal data. that can suck if you're not backing up your stuff in the cloud

Do I understand right, that no factory reset is neccessary? I always rooted my phones before the Pixel 7 and had to do this. Also I have a question you might be able to answer. The reason I want to root my Pixel 7 is that my favorite app, Volume Styles, does not work on Android 13 anymore. With this app you can change your volume slider style to your preference. I really hate the volume style of Google. I came from the OnePlus 7 Pro where they have perfected it. So I especially use this app because I could easily switch the media output from Headphone to speaker within the volume slider - a feature that is sooo incredibly underrated and convinient. I miss this feature everyday since I got the Pixel 7 in October. I'm literally thinking about it each and every day. Now the the problem: For the media output change to work you need to give access to androids accessibilty services. At first the app works and I can change my volume sliders but as soon as I want to change the media output, the app crashes. Same goes for another app that could do that until Android 13. The way I see it, Google denies the accessability services to change the media output and causes the app to crash. After restarting the app I need to allow accesibility services again. In the settings it then says "This service is malfunctioning". In a Android blog I've read that Google is restricting accessibility services since Android 13 since they want to you mess around as little as possible with the system. So if I root my Pixel and grant the app full access to the phone, do you think it could fix this problem?
@ExplainingAndroid
@ExplainingAndroid Жыл бұрын
correct, you saw in the video that I was able to root the phone without losing any of the data. you just have to have the bootloader unlocked first (if yours is still locked, that will wipe your data, though) I can't say for sure (since I'm not familiar with this app) but the app itself will need to be built with root access in mind (if it were to bypass this new Android 13 restriction). root access itself won't help anything if the app hasn't been coded to leverage that type of escalated privileges is this the app you're talking about - play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tombayley.volumepanel ? I'm not seeing any mention of root in the app description, so I'm not sure if that will change anything have you contacted the dev about this android 13 change? maybe they have something they're working on, or have an idea as to how you can workaround this issue?
@sherluk_homs
@sherluk_homs Жыл бұрын
@@ExplainingAndroid Thanks for reading my roman. Yes this is the app I am talking about. The dev has a forum where the community can post bugs/issues/wishes etc. This problem has been mentioned plenty of times there, unfortunately he never gave a response. The app hasn't been updated since June 2022, by that time Android 13 hasn't been stable released yet. Man why does google have to do me dirty like this. There's probably no way to bypass a restriction like that, right? Anyways thanks alot for your detailed response! :)

if by any chance anyone has an issue where it says "partition init_boot not found", the fix is to add _a or _b (depending on active partition, it shows in the fastboot menu on your phone) to the init_boot part of your command. it should either read init_boot_a or init_boot_b. that should do the trick.

Just a friendly advice, don't take this as an attack or as a judgment, but just an advice for you to improve your content (from my way to see things) : You should really think about cutting your videos, in order to have less unnecessary long moment, and just go straight to the point For real, when i go to youtube to search for a guide, i'm really looking for the shortest video possible guide with a maximum of informations, and usualy when it comes for smartphones guide, you only find videos in hindi. There's not enough content in english, so imagine my frustration when i double check every videos to find what i need, and i only find yours, wich has exactly what i need but with waaaaaay too many long moments, i'm going crazy smashing my "->" key to go to the moment i need Other than that, thank you for the help you provide !!

I appreciate the feedback. But I do hope you understand who my target audience is. There are places for quick bullet point tutorials (like XDA) for those who already have a grasp on what they're doing. When I started creating tutorial (for my website, that I ended up selling, but continued with the KZbin channel), my goal was to create walkthroughs for people who got ran off of XDA for being a "noob" and "asking simple questions." I do apologize to folks like yourself who need to press the skip button so many times, or those who feel the need to play my videos at 1.5X speed. But you all have the tools available to you to help you get to the points you're looking for. If I were to create videos that gloss over important details, then I leave out a big portion of the audience I'm creating for. I can't add in context for those people unless they leave a comment and then I end up having to spend time that I don't have to answer those questions. Honestly, I do understand your frustration. I even tried starting a channel called 'Explaining Android Quickly' where I would cut out all of those long moments you mention. But it just wasn't gaining enough traction for me to justify the time spent. I do try to go back and add in step by step bullet points in the video description (for those looking for those important moments) and hope the chapters, manual controls, and the playback speed features are enough for those people who want to get right to the point.

you're missing the file if you believe it's not in that firmware download. I just downloaded the TQ1A.230205.002 firmware you mentioned, for the Pixel 7 Pro (just like I have in this video) and the init_boot.img file is in that firmware download. when you extract the contents, you'll find a file named image-cheetah-tq1a.230205.002.zip, you then want to extract that file and in there you'll find the init_boot.img file

There are over 30 different patches available on the Google website between Oct 2022 and Mar 2024. Am I correct to think my device automatically runs the newest version after unlocking the bootloader it did factory reset right? So it might be the version it had back when it was manufactured? Also at some point, I'm supposed to copy the patched file back to my computer, I feel confident I followed the steps until then correctly, given I got the correct version of the Google website of course, sigh... because I do not have a clue...
