unable to flash to init_boot, I get error that partition is not found... I am in slot B so I tried flashing to init_boot_b and it seemed to work, rebooted and still no root... any ideas? (i also tried flashing to slot a for what that is worth..)... Interesting, root check shows that I am rooted, so does rootbeer fresh, but the magisk app does not show that root is installed... ***Later that day... ok, i figured it out... I still had a hidden magisk app on my system. I uninstall both instances, looked for others, then I installed the magisk app again and it saw it's root... ***

when I download the firmware from google I don't the the .img file just the payload.bin

make sure you're downloading the "factory image" for the firmware and not the "full ota" firmware. and that you're downloading it from this website - developers.google.com/android/images

Why use Root Checker? Isn't Magisk, enough? Just like ChainFire's SuperUser back in the day, you'd just check the logs, right? Or any other root manager. Just thought I'd ask.

ALL of my banking and credit card apps work. but you're right, some of them can be quite picky some will refuse to work UNTIL the phone passes a safetynet test. it's a work expense for me (youtube is my daily job) if you have tried a factory data reset and it still doesn't work, the only thing I can suggest is using the Android Flash Tool to re-image the filesystem with a freshly downloaded firmware that would truly eliminate any software issues that could be possible. if it still doesn't work after that, then it sounds like a hardware issue

No, you can see my data stays intact. you will, however, lose your data from unlocking the bootloader (which is required in order to root)

You didn't show all the steps, causing a lot of confusion. I was able to work it out, but for instance you mentioned copying the Magisk patched file to the comp, but then immediately went to fastboot mode. This skipped copying the files to the PC. I had to go back a step due to unintuitive instructions. Also, not telling people in a video how to go to fastboot is so unnessesary. You only have to power off then press Power+Volume down. That doesn't require a seperate video, that's just click baiting.

I agree. The straightforward parts are explained like to a two year old and then a somewhat vital part is just skipped. But okay. Still helpful.

Yes, as soon as you unlock the bootloader, your device gets wiped. After that, you don't need to worry about another wipe.

what about verizon? why would i mention a model that cannot be rooted because it cannot be bootloader unlocked. this wasn't a "can i root my pixel 8 phone" video. it was a video showing how to gain root access. I showed how to root the Pixel 8 phones that are possible. if you're on verizon, you'll want to buy the phone from Google (not Verizon)
