Great work. Started looking at GRP repairs on KZbin as I’ve got a flat roof outlet thats leaking and seeping under the matt and soaking the ply underneath. Much more confident tackling it having watched your vids. Also didn’t know Selco did the materials so thats made things a bit easier. Keep up the good content.👌

It’s a good system, so much better than torch on, less danger involved! Cheers for asking! Hope you guys are flat out with work Jer

Smart as a carrot that job, great work and very informative. I’m new to grp roofs and am considering one on my new property after years of suffering felt roofs on my old one. Got a lantern roofed garden room planned (need to start saving!), and despite all advice, still not sold on EDPM after one we installed at work leaked within months. How many layers of grp do you use? Is there a limit?

Question @darrenthebuilder why not use full length marine ply board fewer joins comparatively ,yes expensive but labour is more expensive than the material so why not use the best, as with other boards you getting wraps and puddles, Agree with the thin coat but definitely will do second coat. Love the way you did the baywindow tiles. I am not a roofer but done few roofs for friends learning from the likes of your videos , thanks pls reply

They look well but that's about it. Here in Ireland we replace these roofs on a regular basis. There is no movement and they crack. Most have only been done between 5 and 8 years

@warrenbarton6608 2 жыл бұрын
That is a common misconception that there is no movment in a GRP roof,there is, the resin is manufactured to contract and expand, if the installation is correct a GRP roof will last 30 years easy, the manufacturer will guarantee it for 20 years

Although it looks like a nice job, there are multiple things it looks like you didn't do, acetone the roof after sanding leave 25mm expansion gaps against the walls rebate the drip trim look into a topseal course they will show you how to do it properly but it is more expensive gear than cure it 👍

@@darrenthebuilder thanks for replying roofer that I have doing the job in a few months says it’s a right mess which it is when I look at it and he recommends fibreglass as it should be 100% waterproof but after what pervious builder has done I’m worried as my spare room ceiling is a right mess. But watching your videos gives me confidence that if done right the roof should be fine. Just looking for reassurance really.

I wanna fiberglass my mum's flat roof. It's got some old leaking felt at the mo. Do you think I definitely will need to change the boards? It all feels quite solid. I'm guessing if it looks ok once I've taken the felt off maybe I can get away with sanding, acetone and fiberglass. Is that an option? I hope you don't mind me trying to scrounge some free advice from you. Thanks for your videos, really helpful.
@darrenthebuilder
@darrenthebuilder 3 жыл бұрын
Hi if you’re going to fibreglass you will need to use new OSB boards. You might have the option of over boarding (ie. fix the new OSB boards on top of the existing felt roof but it’s better to remove it. I’d advice to strip and fit new boards before glassing.

All warm roofs have to be inspected by Building control from the local authority after paying the £60 fee. if they pass off a roof that is not built to Part L something is very wrong. If it helps, the relevant regulation is Part L 1B section 5 Appendix A. You cannot construct a warm roof with GRP

Hi yes you can go over. In this case the decking boards had been compromised and some had started to rot so the customer wanted them all off and replaced. You can go over with new boards or sand back the existing fibreglass and add a new layer but the boards underneath must be in sound condition.
