Great presentation, I've got a question, could you flash fibre glass on to a metal standing seam roof around a roof light to make it water tight and would it it last, pitch is bout 10 degrees on it, the metal roof will be fixed down on plywood roof, thank you,

Really informative. Thanks for posting. Is it ok to install a new roof deck from 12mm OSB over an existing fibreglass roof (that was originally installed poorly) and install the new fibreglass roof on this new deck?

Can you paint over the topcoat? If so, what kind of paint should I use?
@FibreGlassDirect6 жыл бұрын
Hello, we wouldn't recommend painting over the topcoat. A new layer of topcoat may be applied but original layer would have to be sanded back first and cleaned down with acetone.

Do you still need a breathable membrane under a grp roof for a garden room with 2" of ventilation between insulation and roof?.
@rowanfrost12653 жыл бұрын
Depends if you do warm deck or cool deck construction. If doing cool deck with insulation between joists you should leave 50mm ventilation gap above the insulation and allow for cross ventilation from the front to the back of the roof.
@kuk34113 жыл бұрын
Warm deck or cold would’t need a breathable membrane with a GRP top, vapour barrier yes, but I don’t see how a breathable membrane is appropriate.

Can the fibre glass roof be applied directly to a PIR insulation board, or wood fibre insulation composite board - such as STEICOprotect dry?
@Daisy-ef6bq4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't apply direct to pir board. Clad with OSB or ply.

If I want to remove let's say a extractor fan from the roof which has been fibreglassed. Is it possible to reapply fiberglass to the area after filling in the hole?
@mkroofing69826 жыл бұрын
Sarb S yes you can
@ashman6006 жыл бұрын
Yes, grind out the fan unit and remove, fit any timber joists underneath, fill in the hole with decking making sure its level with the rest of the roof decking san down the existing roof around the fan opening back to about150mm, and then simply laminate and topcoat to finish. Simples

We stock a flexible resin which adapts to roof contractions and expansions. We've been selling Fibreglass Roofing products for a long time with few complaints. A lot of the issues with fibreglass roofing come down to poor application.

Wish my two roofs looked like this. Top coat is peeling all over. Any ideas as to what's gone wrong?
@FibreGlassDirect6 жыл бұрын
Hi Harry, it sounds like your Topcoat did not adhere properly. This can be for a number of reasons for example the surface was contaminated. The good news if there are no leaks etc. this layer can be sanded back and a new layer of topcoat applied.
@williamsmx15795 жыл бұрын

We do get a lot of enquiries from the U.S about fibreglass roofs. Not too sure why, but there are some suppliers over there. This type of roofing system is definitely not as common.
