I’m a fan of Guild guitars and believe they offer outstanding quality and playability at all price points. I own a made in China Guild GAD-JF30 all maple jumbo that I purchased used nearly 20 years ago. It has amazing volume and tone despite having developed 2 large, unrepairable cracks in the top. In terms of allowing guitars to climatize after receiving them, I do think it is helpful especially during periods of intense heat or cold. I don’t think 24 hours is required in every situation. Whenever I do receive a newly shipped guitar, I always open the top of the outer box to allow trapped hot or cold air to escape.

I just bought one of the overseas made Guilds, pretty good sounding playable guitar right out of the box, no regrets!

If the box felt ice cold, I would let it sit inside the house until the box felt like it was cool to the touch. I've had the experience you describe where the guitar I rcvd was a demo. Plastic removed, etc. Don't know how these companies get away without communicating that at least in the listing rather than saying everything is new. Guild looks great, hope you enjoy.

Had the same experience with GC over a Squier Bullet Strat. With a less than stellar ending. It was sale priced and listed as new. I talked to someone on the phone and they told me that there was a store that had 3 of that guitar. I then got an email when the guitar shipped notifying me the guitar may not arrive in original packaging (red flag). It showed up re-packaged with no hang tags, paperwork or allen wrenches. Judging by what they sent me, this was hanging on the wall and nobody wanted the thing. Fret ends were razors and there is a knot hole on the fret board. It's pawn shop bound. P.S. The Fender Squier site has their Affinity Strat in Surf Green for $149.99. That's $100 off! One is on it's way to replace the Bullet.

I bought one of these and I’ll tell you right now that it is now my main “go-to” guitar now.

Looks great. I wanted to get the 12 string Guild that is on a “Stupid Deal” today, but I barely play my acoustic as is. I’m looking forward to hearing you play that one.

My dad had a friend, who had a Martin. The finish was old and worn, and he took it in to the luthier (Don Teeter) and had it stripped and refinished. Brand new french polish, he said it was gorgeous. He had the guitar in his trunk, on the way to the gig, and was a fair distance, and a cold winter. He said he got there, ran up onstage with his case, apologizing for running late, and snapped the latches and threw it open. He said that brand new perfect finish just spider-webbed, right before his eyes. So be careful about drastic temperature changes man.

Though I see in this case it wouldn't be an issue, given the nature of that guitar's finish.

Good advice. If this was a Martin- I would certainly wait it out. In this case, my excitement got the best of me! Thanks for watching Chuck.

Hi Joe, I received my OM-240CE today as well (first new guitar in 30 years). Mine was shipped from a Guitar Center an hour away so I figured it was OK to open it up right away. FWIW, mine had paper wrapped around the strings. No hang tag on mine either but given how loose the strings were I don't think it had ever been played.

Thanks for the lowdown Todd! Enjoy the new guitar.

Nice looking guitar. Let's face it we all deserve an extra Christmas present. Glad to see you're picking up an acoustic every now and then. To me working stuff out on an acoustic is the best way to get better as a player. Good luck and Happy Holidays!

I've been looking at this one for my husband for Christmas. He wanted the kids to have input on what I find, so they chose red. I have been searching KZbin for videos on this one, but haven't found much. I haven't seen it for the price you got yours at either. Cheapest I've seen is 299.97. Wish I could find it for 250 too!

Very handsome guitar indeed. Enjoy. And an excellent deal! By the way, despite similar acclimation warnings from Sweetwater, I think I waited a whole two hours before opening my Squier Strat around this time last year. We’re so weak.😂🤷♂️

lol I've bought 2 PRS SEs and believe I'm done for the year too! - though I could be mistaken I don't think these deals will be around next year. 🎸🎸🎸

Looks good Joe. 50% off a $500+ guild is a great deal. But, opening it up early….? You better take a couple of steps back before it self destructs!
