Nice job welcome to the club. I have been using these guitars for over 20 years. I currently own the Ferrari of all tiesco guitars the SS-L4.

This is a great video - I like the fact that you review guitars that are affordable for the average person and I'm impressed by how much detail you go into with every guitar. You're also a Silverchair fan which I find interesting as I had assumed they'd been mostly forgotten by now. Your playing is great, as ever.

That’s a nice guitar you got, a keeper. I had a grey YG-6 with rounded pickups and badged as a Starway, 1965 I believe. The YG-6 is quirky but the Tokyo Electric Instrument Sound COmpany definitely made quirkier 😃

Great review thx! It’s awesome to discover these guitars. My first guitar was a Westone Thunder II-A, made in Japan in the early 80s. Later i realised how excellent quality it has, little details like brass nut and saddles. And very versatile with switches for active-passive, in/out of phase and coil tap. Enjoy the guitar!

That is a rare Teisco. They dont come up for sale often. Cool score. Glad youve added it to your quiver. Cool piece to play on stage for one or 2 songs. Good street cred.

You made a good decision and investment. I have several of these and know a little about them I can share. These were a top of the line model introduced in 1964 and only lasted about a year. There weren't many of them made. I think fewer than 500. Yours is a 1965. They were originally marketed in the Yamaha catalog and YG stands for Yamaha Guitar....They're just as good in quality as a Fender.....actually better in some respects and WAY cheaper, but I don't think they'll remain that way....Setup properly they play very well and the pickups are exceptional........The switches also allow you to use the pickups as single coils or humbuckers. I have an early YG-6 and a 65 with original case. The 64 is branded Starway and the 65 World Teisco. Teiscos were marketed in the U.S. under many badges. Player's players such as Arlen Roth, David Lindley, Ry Cooder, Glen Campbell and Rory Gallagher had Teisco guitars in their collections. These are extremely versatile very handmade guitars with excellent electronics and hardware. The vibrola is one of the best ever made, you're lucky the thumbscrew is still on it and it's all intact.............Bear in mind, some parts for vintage Japanese guitars are IMPOSSIBLE to find, so make sure you try to buy complete instruments. Especially upper end models like ET-320S, TG-64S, Spectrum 5s or Kent 740s........

@@DressedInBlack No, you don't see them for sale often and when you do they're generally sunbursts. I have a VERY early 64 with the grey battleship pickups and a complete 64 in Copper badged World Teisco with original case....They're superb guitars...You'd like the T-64s and ET-320s as well.....I wish we could message on here. I could tell you a lot...

@@DressedInBlack OK, got it! I just got two more, a Copper and a Red one, both early 1965 Transitional models. Yours is a later Transitional, probably mid 1965, due to the striped pickguard.

Great video… I have a vintage 60/70’s Japanese guitar that belonged to my dad…it has six push buttons and the same type of pickups as yours. The neck feels nice and solid but the electronics need to be redone. I mostly stick with late 80’s Ibanez guitars

I bought this exact same model in France in the 60s. So badly made that it was difficult to play but sounded OK. It came with a small Teisco amp that was also complete crap but they were my first electric guitar and amp, and I persevered before I saved enough to buy my second guitar, a 67 Gibson SG. It's amusing to me how nostalgia has made Teiscos collectible. They were the worst of the worst at the time.

@@RistoBopDz Yeah I get it, lo-fi is hip. In fact I love the sound of these old Teiscos and they can be set up to play better. I was speaking of the time when they were originally available, and widely despised. Wish I'd held on to mine.

You’re right, Lo-fi is hipe! Too much in my opinion by it’s easier with the help of social medias! In the 80’s we were a few original guys playing 60’s garage and it was hard to find old vinyl and old instruments… like The Cramps, The A-Bones or bands with old Farfisa!! That’s the case, I m an old dinosaur ! But you know what? I play on Telecaster… old, classic, bit versatile …
