+Diana Ramos If they are applied correctly, they will not rip out. (However, it may seem that way when you DO take them out because people naturally shed daily.) Hair is very strong especially when groups together. There is even a circus of sorts where the performers do tricks such as swing from their hair, lift with their hair, etc. In this video, she is currently wearing dreads made out of wool.

You know... There are girls that look just plain right ugly as heck in those dreads... NHowever, you really sparkle. Your probably the most beautiful, bright and cutest person I have ever seen that can pull this look off very well... I did a side cut on my hair awhile back and let me just tell you.... You don't need to shave the sides of your head at all if you don't want to (unless you want a similar hairstyle to hers, of course). You'd just need more wool dreads.

+Karma Shadows Really think about it! Make sure it's something you for sure want to do, because there's no going back once you do it. I had wanted to shave my head for about six years before I gave myself my first sidecut. Also, start small. The first section of hair I ever shaved was about an inch wide, then over a few months I made it bigger and bigger.

I've read that if your hair is three inches or longer, you should be able to wear synthetic dreads. As long as you can braid your hair around the dread at least twice, I believe, you're okay.

+ThisIsNotMyName As long as you can make a braid, you can install dreads. Generally 3-4 inches is as short as people do it.
