Among New Englanders, it's known that New Hampshire is not wealthy but well off with low, if any, population loss among its cities and towns, and no significant pockets of poverty; but that's also true of Vermont. We generally don't let a lot of people know about it. Several municipalities in New England generate their own electricity through water power. During the great blackout in the 1960's depriving the whole Eastern half of the country of electricity, those places, without fanfare, continued to have it. They're completely off the massive interconnected grid most of the country is on.

The numbers back you up, David. New Hampshire has the lowest poverty rate in the United States. Also, notate income tax and no tax on Social Security. I was very impressed with the state.

@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip Don't be that impressed. They don't fund their schools because the people that matter can send their kids to private schools, of which there are a million. They have Cayman Island style tax codes to draw in the wealthy, and in order to get on Medicaid you have to have literally no income. So they do NOTHING for anyone in them middle classes, but they also know VT is right around the corner and it's very liberal and has easy healthcare access. The property taxes are very high and they nickel and dime you on literally everything because the state has no money.

@@besmartvoteblue2702 Or perhaps we see how other neighboring states and the feds spend said tax dollars on entitlement programs that consistently don't work and we prefer a different way. And perhaps we also value personal accountability in ones life here and hold folks to a high standard as far as taking care of themselves and not solely relying on the free money tap to flow endlessly. Fortunately you do have a good option. There are several sates to the south of us who feel as you do and elect their leaders accordingly. If you go make sure to check out Mass & Cass or any metro overpass from Worcester to Boston and let me know how those social programs are working out. Have a great day! :)

The three northern New England states ( Maine, New Hampshirite, Vermont ) are wonderful to spend time in , particularly during summer and fall. As you saw the plentiful historic villages and small towns are delightful. Mountains, forests, sea coast are also big attractions. If you look at those state highway signs, and also the New Hampshire license plates, you'll notice the strange outline. It's the rock profile from "The Old Man of the Mountain" which was so famous in NH and all of New England when I was growing up until it fell off near Cannon Mountain probably about 20 years ago. I don't know which was sadder: When the Red Sox lost the World Series in 1986 or when The Old Man of the Mountain profile fell off.

Nice to see you made it to Laconia and Concord. I was actually in Funspot that Wednesday, didn't see you though. (One of my favorite places is about a mile from Funspot called the Kellerhaus, a German themed gift shop with the best ice cream I've yet to find in New England. Excellent fudge too. And an interesting bee hive display in the candy shop.) I was going to suggest that when you pass back through from Maine you go through Meredith, just north of Laconia. Meredith is often considered the best town in New Hampshire. If you do pass through Meredith I like the Harts Turkey Farm restaurant. Wolfeboro on the other side of the lake is very nice too. I like New London which has the old Barn Playhouse in the center of town. I have a fondness for Henniker ("the only Henniker on Earth") where my family owns a small cottage. Peterborough is a beautiful town and the play "Our Town" was based on it. New Hampshire is usually ranked among the top 5 states, sometimes at number 1. You can see why... Anyway, have fun in New England!

In the town of Bristol there’s a hiking place in the center of town called inspiration point. Once you get to the top you can over look the town. I wish you had gone further up north, the white mountains area is absolutely beautiful too. There’s covered bridges and swimming holes under them in the river. There’s also a place where the first recorded alien abduction took place, and different forms in the mountains, along with many flumes and gorges. The small towns up there, the local people are so friendly too. My personal favorite area is the north western part of the state. This was my home city for a long time. I went through the Belmont school system one town over. I moved with my wife to Des Moines Iowa last year but part of my heart will always be in New Hampshire. I saw movies in the Colonial Theater when I was a kid. BTW you pronounced Lake Winnisquam correctly, nice job. My Dad took me to Funspot when I was very little when it was just 2 rooms. Lots of Nostalgia for me.

As you know, Eastern Connecticut is a whole different ball game from what is portrayed on TV in the rich western suburbs near NYC. Eastern CT is rural with a lot less money (except for the Casinos in southeast CT). My father's family comes from the western RI - eastern CT area and were called "Swamp Yankees" a term they're proud of and basically corresponds to "Northern Hillbillies" LOL

Love seeing bars like Chuck's Barber Shop - it just adds to the fun. I was at one last week that presents as a small, old accounting office when you go in (complete with rotary phone on the desk) and then voila...behind the secret door the drinks are flowing!

Just came across your channel, and started watching your Arkansas videos to get an idea of the backroads and towns where we're road-tripping through next month. And then found this video, and was so glad you covered Franklin! My parents were born in Franklin in 1923 and raised there; were high-school sweethearts, and WW2 split them up for a bit but they got back together while meeting up at the Franklin library (next to the city hall). They are now buried in the Franklin cemetery, my sister and I went there with their ashes in fall of 2019. It was a special trip. Stunning area. They moved eventually to Minnesota, where I was raised, and now I live in the Southwest, so I rarely make it back to New Hampshire. Obviously, even being gone from New Hampshire for decades, essentially most of their adult lives, they wished to be buried back in New Hampshire, knowing even me and my siblings weren't likely to get back there very often. That's how much they loved their home town. Thank you for including Franklin on your journeys!

I'm glad you toured Concord. When all of us go up to the mountains from Southern New England we go by Concord on I-93. All you see are the backs of the buildings and it looks like a dump from the freeway. I got off the freeway one time and it's a really nice town, I was surprised! So I'm thankful you showed it off

So happy to begin my Saturday with your New Hampshire video! What beautiful towns! I’ve never been to NH. The homes and downtowns in the cities you visited were fantastic. I loved the canals and water being used for power. The remaining RR was also really cool. Thank you for going topside so we could get a great look! The restaurant and food looked really nice! I’m also addicted to your videos! Enjoy your weekend!
