As you can see, it’s new bridges and a tunnel. The disruption to existing traffic will be minimal if drivers freaking down their part, pay attention and drive. Lane closures are happening at night. Going from 2 to 4 lanes both way is worth suffering. We already suffer at the tunnel anyway going slow... I really can’t see this causing more interruption than there already is.

Every road that has been widened to accommodate traffic has seen an increase in traffic to accommodate the widening of the road. It's a vicious cycle that will never end unless we stop building roads and people actually learn how to drive.

@himabimdimwim2 жыл бұрын
"every road that has been widened to accommodate traffic has seen an increase in traffic to accommodate the widening of the road". While that applies in almost every interstate situation, it does not apply (to the same degree) here. For the most part, the length of the expansion project is between a point A and a point B. Most traffic will continue along the entire route from A to B. There is not much demand for point A to middle or middle to point B. The whole point of the expansion is to allow more capacity from point A to point B. If that induces more demand, between the peninsula and Norfolk/VB, then it will be a bonus to local economies. Additionally, it is not as If people going from point A to point B have a better route. Widening the road will not induce people to change to the HRBT from another road, because there is no (good) other road that serves point A to B.

Object strongly to any tolls. Thats why you pay gas tax and pay income taxes, they do not need the toll money. you pay 21.2 center per gallon in taxes on your gas regardless if the gas is $1.40 or $2.50, that means the average person spends on a 12 gallon tank $2.54 in taxes per fill up if you are filling up 3 days a week that's $5.088 may aswell say $5.09 /week in taxes times lets say 110k vehicles crossing this bridge that's $559,680 / week in gas taxes take that and multiply it by a year that's $29,103,360 per year with only 110,000 vehicles being counted. now consider the actual number of vehicles in Hampton Roads and that's $414,467,040 /yr. They can afford the damn bridge without tolls

Plus the bad drivers never use toll roads so less bad drivers in the toll road and faster flow for you if your willing to pay.

Why don't you invest in better public transit infrastructure? That's what other modern countries have been doing for decades and it works. Just visit Japan or any European country. Their public transit systems are amazing. In America we always seem to think the solution to traffic congestion is to spend trillions of tax dollars on more road lanes. The real problem is single occupancy vehicles and unless you try to get people away from that, the problem of congestion will keep getting worse in American cities. Adding more lanes and tunnels is just putting a bandaid on the problem.

Hampton Roads has such a diverse population, driving habits is part of the congestion problem. I lived in Jacksonville, FL & they have a long 4 lane bridge leading to & from . It’s good in theory BUT what makes it unappealing are the long stretches of solid lines. I think it defeats the purpose of taking advantage of 4 lanes. It takes you right back to the old problems. Backups won’t stop. Accidents will still affect all 4 lanes, just look I-64 E. An investment in an all encompassing light rail system like they have in NYC will be tremendous. Sounds Like a good plan but you are definitely on some serious 🧐 drugs if you think this is going to work . First of all People are scared 😱 to drive thru the tunnels now, If you widen the tunnel that might help, So now you have 4 lanes on both sides and you expect those 8 lanes to go through OV and carry on 😣 now I can see that on the peninsula, I don’t think Hampton U is going to like the widening. Now I’m sure you will have a toll on this road so people will turn around and take the M&M . So good luck 🍀 on this insanity of a project

Wait a minute. It’s four lanes of traffic that turn into two as you enter the tunnel? How is that any better?

2 Lanes for 4 Tubes You really think that’s how they were gonna fix traffic?

So, not only has Hampton Roads charged more city taxes to fund these types of things, but the expansion is mainly built on providing an extended HOV lane that requires people to pay to use it.. to fund this project...

You’re not doing anything but widening the road for more cars. More cars equals more taxes for the state and insurance companies. You could at least added a BRT LANE FOR BUSSES ONLY.

#1 This Looonnggg over DUE 🙄 #2 it will help absolutely NOTHING. #3 most likely won't be completed for another 3+ YEARS 😑 HRBT-A is still incompetent.. throw the whole Hampton roads AWAY🙃

So is it just adding two paid hov lanes? That won't help traffic at all.

That's what I'm saying. Nobody uses Express lanes anyways

Realistc simulation! But...I knew it wasn't real when I didn't see mattresses, ladders, trashbags and tires falling onto the road from towed trailers

This will be completed somewhere around 2055

So they’re removing the HOV lane?

The express lanes are the most idiotic idea ever. Just to go 5 mph faster
