Those look like a cool concept and I can see what they could add to the header. I've seen plenty of kernels roll out through the the deck plates and stripper rollers going down the field and it seems like this should help that problem. I'll be interested in seeing the results.

Well if its 1200 then changing them that's not to bad!! Ryan looks like u got a plastic snout and side metal on the right side of that head!? Plastic is way nicer but a used steel one would of been way cheaper from a salvage yard!!

I believe they are about 200 ac. per row on the brushes...we put them on our 612fc mid season and loved the results

My dad back in the 30's sold corn for $2 a bushel. After all these years corn is only going for $3.

Everything is pretty much like that... My granddad sold cotton in the 50's for 60 cents a pound. My Dad sold cotton in the 70's for 60 cents a pound. I sold cotton in the 80's and 90's, for 60-70 cents a pound (depending on the year... one year everything "high-miked" around here and we couldn't get but 25 cents a pound). Cotton sells today for 60-70 cents a pound. Why we quit row cropping and went all cow/calf... Later! OL J R :)

The yield maps don't save you any money unless you take what they tell you and implement a savings plan. Variable rate planter, variable rate fertilizer application, improved drainage, reduced soil compaction, pest and deer damage, weather problems like drought and others. Now you have to decide do you try to fix the weak spots or do you cut inputs to the weak spots and kinda give up on the bad areas. Tough decisions when you do not know why any particular spot fails.

Every 200 acres? Id be replacing brushes more then picking corn. When Ive seen head shell corn, the kernels fly everywhere not just where the rows are. I think it would be hard telling if the corn was or wasnt from the rows with the brushes.

Most of your loss comes from when the ear hits the striper plates an the butt shells off a little, they may help but the time to put them on an change after their wore a bit not sure if they save that much but worth a try!! congrats on 60,000 ryan!!!

Wouldn't this system add more trash to your grain sample? It definitely would help collecting those loose kernels but with that, wouldn't there be most smaller trash along with it? I don't know how much of a difference it would make in the sample, have you noticed anything different?

Not if you set your cleaning shoe right... just takes a little effort to set the chaffer/sieves to the right opening and playing with the amount of air (fan speed) on the cleaning shoe and you'll float the chaff right out the back without losing grain over the shoe... Most guys just set it "by the book" and forget it, but there's a little more to it than that if you want to get the cleanest sample with the most capacity (throughput/speed) of the combine with the least loss out the back... It's all tradeoffs... Later! OL J R :)

+ih1066mb We'll be doing that experiment in another video. They start to drop in efficiency after those acres, so you still wouldn't have to replace them immediately.

ih1066mb its not 200 acres they need changed its 200 acres per row so a 6 row head you'll cover 1200 acres before you'll need to change them

hey Ryan just subscribed been watching off and on for awhile. if I'm figuring right he said 1.8 bu per acre at 1200 acres that would be 2160 bu at $3 that's $6480 in saved corn. I'm guessing $200 per row for the chains that's $1200 so you'd save $5280 in 1200 acres not a bad return

you should get a bigger combine so the job is done faster but im not saying the combine you have is bad i just think a bigger combine will do on the tons of corn you get a year

Also could save by going 1 mph slower with 33% bigger head. Using GPS makes guess rows closer to 30" Using less labor, fuel with faster harvest and less grain loss might be worth it.

Does JD address this issue on their new corn heads. If not, does JD not want a competitive edge over their competitors. Like the K&M automotive air intakes, if they do what they say they will, why has one of the big 3 not jumped on the opportunity to beat their competition. I don't understand why these great ideas don't go main stream faster if at all. Just sayin. doug

at the price of corn it's going to take a lot of acres to pay for that stuff. I would have thought you would be better off to get like an 8 row head with adjustable deck plates. stuff is nice but 4 amount of Acres you farm can you actually Justified. have never seen a newer John Deere head with brushes on it.
