Ariana R yes, hedgehogs do need heat lamps as they can attempt hibernation if it gets to cold. While this naturally occurs in the wild with no problem, in captivity they’ll not have stored the extra fats and stuff to survive hibernation. But you could also go with ceramic heat emitters, or just getting the room your hedgie is in to the right temperature

I agree so much with the bedding, I rescued my little guy and he lives with wood shavings which I knew were not a great option for hedgies, money wise, and cleaning. I've been using blankets as bedding for about a year but he still seems to not like it too much, I may switch to paper bedding soon, and throw in a ton of blankets scraps as well as I know he enjoys the smaller pieces of blanket to curl up in. Very great video and personality!! Can't wait to see more :)

I'm from Finland and here the absolute minimum for hedgehogs is 2 m2 (this is info from several breeders including the one I got my hedgehog from) because they are very active and like to run around a lot. Also they get fat super easily, and unless they regularly use their wheel, they might not get enough exercise. My hedgehog would use her wheel for a few laps, then run around her wheel and in her enclosure for a while and then return to the wheel & repeat. It's true that they like to feel secure which is why it's important to have lots of hides and stuff to dig in too, like you said in the video. I had several tunnels and she loved to run through them. :) Many people in Finland have actually built custom enclosures for their hedgehogs out of large bookshelves by making ramps between "floors" and adding glass doors. If you google the word "siilikaappi", you can see pictures of the enclosures (they look really fun and interesting, highly recommend taking a look :D) It's interesting how different the recommendations for animals are in different countries. I mean, American owners can't be doing everything wrong either because hedgehogs there live fairly long lives too. .. the play area looks like an escape hazard though, you'd be surprised how good hedgehogs are at climbing :D
@lindadaa6 жыл бұрын
Also, have you had issues with Momo trying to hibernate? I was forced to use heating mats to make sure I could keep the enclosure warm enough. Though Finland can get pretty cold so maybe temperatures aren't an issue where you live :p

Id bring him to the middle and he would run everywhere, he met a lot of people and was extremely happy. Obviously if you do this watch the sky for birds and always watch the hedgehog so it doesbt find bugs

My hedgehogs cage is a double bin cage. It’s two connected with a tube thing so it’s big but it long rather than wide so that she doesn’t feel overwhelmed. I’d definitely suggest that to anyone making a bin cage. They have a lot of big long ones at Walmart or target.

Hey, so one of my lively Leo's unfortunately past recently, I am going to be selling the vivariums and it's set up. I want the buyer to be confident in the fact that I haven't given him/her a set up with any parasites lying around, so far I have cleaned it all with boiling water and have also used some reptile antibacterial to clean it, would you say this would kill any parasites that could potentially be lying around.

i always find it so weird that in america people keep hedgehogs in wire cages..........over here in the uk we all use vivs as its like a "thing" that hedgehogs will try to climb the wire and either hang themselves trying to get out the bars or fall as they think they are amazing climbers but actually arent? looks like the one you chose has a nice deep pan tho.... my 5yo boy is in a 4ft by 1ft by 1ft viv with extra vents put in (theys stinky!) and has been happy since 8 weeks old, be interested to hear how they get on in wire ones tho?
@tylerrugge6 жыл бұрын
I haven't had issues with her trying to climb this cage! It is probably because of the deep pan, otherwise I'd probably end up putting something around the sides to cover the bars. I never really even thought about keeping her in a viv! lol
@lauraandsam216 жыл бұрын
its so weird how it varies country to country as to what is the "done thing" lol. i got a lot of stick on a fb group from the american members saying a viv holds too much humidity and thats why reptile keepers use them until i explained he has a hell of a lot more ventilation than my snakes do and obviously i would never mist a hedgehog enclosure haha

I’m actually going from that exact cage to a c&c cage. I always keep the fence on, since I use it for two guinea pigs, and I’m just so tired of the keep up with this cage. I have to remove the fence in order to clean up the bedding in the “play area” and that thing is pretty heavy for me. Not to mention, one of my pigs loves to dig under the bedding in the cage part and poop on the floor of it, and let me tell you.. You have to *scrape* that poop off. It adheres to like superglue or something. Point is, for me, a c&c cage is going to be twenty times easier to maintain, but I’m glad someone’s actually enjoying the cage. Added little note here, but can you believe this cage is $200? I’m glad I got it for free, otherwise it would not have been worth the money considering all of the different things that aren’t great about it.

@sarenaleyva96546 жыл бұрын
I recommend that cage for guinea pigs only if the run is accessable at all times. But then again if you're going to pay over $100 for a cage you might as well get a good c&c cage and accessories for the piggies.

I got an Axolotl yesterday, something I never thought would happen! My goal is to get a Ball Python, and I’m slowly trying to acclimate my mom to the idea of pets with no fur. First I asked her for fish two or three years ago and she said I could never get them because it was too hard, but I’ve eased her into it. I currently have a 36g Bowfront which has a bunch of very personable Mollies and then a 5.5 Gallon Betta Tank. She’s learned to really enjoy the fish. Then on Sunday I went to a reptile expo and there were Axies and I texted her a picture and told her it was just like a fish with legs and she said “whatever”.... long story short, she loves my Axolotl now and thinks he’s the cutest thing ever. I suppose my next step would be a gecko, then a snake. I also convinced her to let me get rats, which she’s never hated but she ended up loving so much more than she thought she would lol. She thought they would be more of just my pet and she would maybe say hi to them once in a while... she’s OBSESSED. And they’re very misunderstood, just like snakes. See, she always hates animals before they come into her home and then she loves them. So i’m hoping with patience and taking it very slow I’ll be able to get that BP and a Leopard Gecko (or maybe a Crestie). Alsoooo I need name suggestions for my Axolotl. They’re 3 months old and i won’t know the gender for a bit, so either give me both female and male suggestions or a unisex name.
