Derek, I work in Central California as a Ag mechanic and have been doing so for over 21 years. We rely heavily on the Ag industry to keep our world turning..I can honestly say that not one time have I watched a farming video because I am in it everyday....but that's not the case with a Vice Grip Lodge video...rules do not apply for you my friend. I'll watch them all with a smile on my face. Thank you to you and your fam

Now we could have gone the easy way but we did the right thing and went on horseback Jeff rode zipp and I rode Nora are draft horse .. I guess when people see someone come to a bar to get a 6 pack of Budweiser on a draft horse it's a photo opportunity the cops Even wanted pictures hahahaha ....anyway.... Thank you Derek seeing you doing the stuff I used to do makes me smile and relive the best years of my life

That was awesome!!! It's been a while since I've seen one of those rakes (that one is pretty old). I worked at the New Holland plant in Belleville PA for almost 15 years. They closed the plant in 2007. We made many different New Holland products there; bail wagons, windrowers, skid steers and buckets, spreaders, several front-end loaders for the tractors, rakes, and many other products. I welded for several years, painted (enamel, urethane, and powder) for even more years. Assembled front-end loaders for the last 3 years. I've seen thousands of the rakes made and painted many. All the products were sent to other New Holland plants in the USA and around the world. It was awesome to see one in action, they work great!!! But require maintenance like everything else.

I live at the beach in SoCal and I just watched 30 mins about a New Holland rake and raking hay. Coincidentally I grew up in PA very near the New Holland plant. Our house was next to a field and I recall watching the farmer work that field - my favorite was watching the hay baler as it picked up the hay, made a rectangular bale, and then flung it up high and back into the hay wagon. Just watching this vid I swear I could smell that hay. Thanks, Guy!

Well, having experienced a hayfield a time or two as a small human, I can say with confidence that watching work in the hayfield here is way better than being one of the little humans following behind, throwing bales up on a trailer all day or being on the trailer stacking the bales.

We run our rake on a draw bar on the 3 point, with a pin on a rope. Just drop the 3 point to hitch height at the field. It's a New Holland 56. No cranking on a jack, rarely have to crank the rake up or down. Itll pick up high enough to clear windrows sometimes. Our jack swings up out of the way, so when your done raking you drop the jack, trip the gear box, put the 3 point up all the way and you won't even have to get out to unhook.

Hoi Derek, I like the rubber liner around the steering wheel of that old Ford tractor. Gives kinda luxe feeling. Definitely a higher class vehicle. And probably prevents your hands from freezing stuck to the wheel in winter, and burning in summer. About the fuel cup: what about using some self-curing rubber paste to seal it up? But no silicone rubber, as that is not oil-tight. Silicone is watertight because it repels water. But oils, solvents, liquid parafine and fuels seep through. Don't ask how I know, after I got a whole oven, table and floor covered in parafine... :-) That is why it is a good idea to totally saturate silicone moulds with silicone oil, prior to casting solvent-based two-component resins in it. This greatly slows down the seeping-in of the solvents into the silicone, prolonging its life.

Enjoyed watching you doing farm work. I farm the same way with old equipment. Dad taught us boys to hook the rake to a cat 1 draw bar. On the three point hitch. So you could raise it on corners and when you clean windrow ends. Just thought it would help on rough ground. And set the draft where you want it. Awsome job!!!
