Suzuki gave a gift to us in the aftermarket - the muffler is huge, which is why it's so quiet, but the catalytic converters look tiny, there's barely any breadbox under the engine. Yank off the muffler, put on a cheap aftermarket slip on, you're down 8KGs and it'll totally wake up. It's the same with the SV650.

Fully stripped back V-Strom 800,with all the offroad mods done(18" rear wheel included) from Hessler, 238kg(Inc.14kg of fuel),Transalp modded the same,similar weight, but with only 11.2kg of fuel. A decat, and further pairing back, it should be possible to get to 199kg dry?

@@F3udF1st for the weight. I did smth similar on my 19 650 XT strom, changed the exhaust and the battery for lithium, gained 7 kilos. But honestly OP, gaining 8 kilos by just changing the pipe with a legal one at least, sounds really optimistic. More like 4 maybe 5 maximum if the original is indeed really heavy. Hessler btw uses the arrow system and on my V strom with that exhaust I gained about 3.6 kilos.

I've owned two DL650s which I considered to be "pretend" adventure bikes. I liked them for their upright rider position, good visibility, and the wonderfully smooth v-twin. They were easier on my old hips and knees than most other types. Of these two, I think I would choose the Transalp. I like the styling better, and I ride 98% on road anyway. Fun video to watch, BTW.

Your "grunt" test race is really telling and one reason I went with the Suzuki. Coming from a cruiser background I really like having the power on demand in low and mid range over having to spin up the motor to red line to get my power. It is definitely a hard choice and if money was no concern I think I would have both plus hundreds more bikes in my garage because there are so many good bikes available these days.

Congratulations! Bet it's a blast. I got tired of waiting for one here in the US. They didn't confirm it was coming here so I ended up with a Norden 901. Choice #2 was an Africa Twin but they aren't releasing 2023 ATs in the US either. No dealerships could get one and Honda would cancel pre-orders with no explanation. The dealerships later said "unofficially" that Honda was skipping this year in the US market so I would either need to wait indefinitely or choose something else. Honda corporate really needs to work on their communication skills. Definitely cost them a sale with me.

Thanks for the review boys, they look like great bikes for the price. @@chadkline4268 yes you can but not quite the same as factory cruise. It feels more like a manufacturer decision to sell more 1050's as a "true" adventure bike. I don't understand why they don't have an option on the 800.
@chadkline4268
@chadkline4268 Жыл бұрын
@@ckgaming7369 I don't think it's so simple. First, people would not be happy with a simple lock. They would want speed maintenance so that the bike maintains speed up and down hills. And that means a much greater expense. At least, another throttle controller. Then, there is liability concerns such as being accused of the auto throttle control not turning off fast enough to prevent an accident. That is why some mfrs go so far as to couple cruise control with radar sensors to prevent collisions. And costs can skyrocket when a mfrs takes responsibility for the auto control of a bike. They might need to add tilt sensors so unreasonable speeds are not maintained around sharp curves, etc. It can get complex very quickly. Maybe you want a brake sensor to turn off the cruise control, etc.

Anyone tested these with a meaningful load of luggage in cases AND top box? Does the Honda's "more road biased", presumably stiffer, suspension, make up for the Suzukis greater adjustability? On paper, the Suzuki's remote rear preload is a HUGE benefit on a bike like this. Over time, with a bit of tinkering, you'd think ditto its ability to adjust damping at both ends and both directions. But its greater travel may also mean it will struggle more with controlling a Buch of additional weight and awkward aero hung at the very rear of the bike and beyond. While luggageless handling is nice for days when you just want to go out for a quick ride; for this class of bike, I believe how it keeps up its composure with luggage, is more generally relevant. Among long travel ADV bikes, that had generally been a strength of the GS. And perhaps even more obviously of the Super Tenere, which is a bit dead and cumbersome unloaded, but really comes into its own when loaded down heavy enough that the rest starts getting wonky.

I also like the mid rpm torque of the Suzuki looks really practical for passing. I'd like to know what 70mph rpm's are and witch is smoother at that speed as here in USA would be ridden a lot. Can you just please answer simply for us. What is the better adv bike? Because you are comparing two adventure bikes. So happy to get your own preference of what bike you would buy but does not give me answer to the thumbnail comparing these new adventure bikes. Thank you

You guys are consistent 🍻 Same conclusion back in the day between the Africa Twin and the 1050 XT Lets redo that comparison but now with the 1050 DE I really do think the Suzuki has a good chance of getting 2:0 😄😄 Thanks 🙏

Chops has road bikes, leaving the need for the better off-roader, therefore he picks Suzuki. Greg preferred the Honda, a more on-road bike, with better gearbox and wind protection. That seems to be the reason for their choice of either bike. What do you think?

The Honda the engine sounds like something I'd be interested in - good bottom end, but I love the high rev roll on...about when the Suzuki signs off. lighter and more agile too. The rest you can upgrade as you go along - but if you don't love the engine.. The suzuki definitely looks better though IMO.. Suzuki is coming out with a more road oriented 17/19 cst wheel version. Maybe they'll throw in a little engine spice.

Maybe the typical street rider wants a loud exhaust, but when you get off road, you don't want to burn the forest or prairie down and you don't want to startle wildlife or those we share the trails with, like hikers, dog walkers, horses. My V-Strom 1000XT always gets a thumbs-up for being quiet from people. That loud exhaust is from the bygone days of NASCAR and Harley biker gangs. Modern times, we prefer stealth.

Both are great useable bikes. Transalp for me though. Not much thought has gone into the looks of the Suzuki. Seems like it has been assembled from the parts bin. That's a subjective thing though.

The other fella cracked the code. Forget the spec sheets. Reviewers shouldn't even read them as it just creates confirmation bias in their heads before they even twist the throttle. First ride the bike, then read and babble about specs and overpriced race bike parts. If you're honest, you'll find that they not only double the cost, but make the ride on the street worse.

Interesting to me that suzuki repeated all the magic that originally made the africa twin great. Comfortable, suprisingly easy to ride off road for its weight, still fun on road. On the other hand honda built a 750cc vstrom 650, a bike that skimps on suspension quality, ground clearance, engine protection, and has a geometry making it very unforgiving off road, but is essentially an upright sport bike with ADV plastics.

Two great bikes there. Personally, I'd like to see Honda launch a retro style bike using this new 750 engine. That or I pick up a used bargain Transalp next year. Until then, I'll stick with my trusty Cb500f. 🏍👍

Transalp is just a larger CB500X, if your planing of upgrading the Transalp at all, just buy the African twin. Transalp is a bike that’s not needed. Suzuki is a better product all day long over a Honda.

AT is much larger and heavier plus far more pricey than TA. New NX 500 is really nice but has only 48 hp here in Germany. Many go for the TA then, sells quite well over here.

Suzuki engine is great. BMW has more vibration and is weaker from the start. Suzuki has good torque. BMW has adaptive suspension (which no one needs). Suzuki suspension can be adjusted when you need it. Drive modes on BMW are crap. Wind protection on BMW is better.

CC is a lot less important at freeway speeds on a 80-90hp middleweight, than on a 1200. Once doing 60mph, exactly where the throttle is any given second, just doesn't matter so much on these, so you can rest your hand even without CC.
