Congratulations! Bet it's a blast. I got tired of waiting for one here in the US. They didn't confirm it was coming here so I ended up with a Norden 901. Choice #2 was an Africa Twin but they aren't releasing 2023 ATs in the US either. No dealerships could get one and Honda would cancel pre-orders with no explanation. The dealerships later said "unofficially" that Honda was skipping this year in the US market so I would either need to wait indefinitely or choose something else. Honda corporate really needs to work on their communication skills. Definitely cost them a sale with me.

Suzuki gave a gift to us in the aftermarket - the muffler is huge, which is why it's so quiet, but the catalytic converters look tiny, there's barely any breadbox under the engine. Yank off the muffler, put on a cheap aftermarket slip on, you're down 8KGs and it'll totally wake up. It's the same with the SV650.

@@F3udF1st for the weight. I did smth similar on my 19 650 XT strom, changed the exhaust and the battery for lithium, gained 7 kilos. But honestly OP, gaining 8 kilos by just changing the pipe with a legal one at least, sounds really optimistic. More like 4 maybe 5 maximum if the original is indeed really heavy. Hessler btw uses the arrow system and on my V strom with that exhaust I gained about 3.6 kilos.

I've owned two DL650s which I considered to be "pretend" adventure bikes. I liked them for their upright rider position, good visibility, and the wonderfully smooth v-twin. They were easier on my old hips and knees than most other types. Of these two, I think I would choose the Transalp. I like the styling better, and I ride 98% on road anyway. Fun video to watch, BTW.

Your "grunt" test race is really telling and one reason I went with the Suzuki. Coming from a cruiser background I really like having the power on demand in low and mid range over having to spin up the motor to red line to get my power. I see the 800DE as the motorcycle you can ride long distances to get to your adventure and then ride that as well. Some folks have been calling the 800DE the DR800DE. Its big enough to do freeways and highways, but handles itself well off road. Since I have been suffering thru the DL1000XAL8 not having the suspension travel and ground clearance and the silly 19" from tire, the 800 DE is a win for me. The 800DE is not for hard enduro, I suppose, tho I always think that's more the rider than the bike, but the bike makes things easier for the rider.

@chadkline4268 Жыл бұрын
@@ckgaming7369 I don't think it's so simple. First, people would not be happy with a simple lock. They would want speed maintenance so that the bike maintains speed up and down hills. And that means a much greater expense. At least, another throttle controller. Then, there is liability concerns such as being accused of the auto throttle control not turning off fast enough to prevent an accident. That is why some mfrs go so far as to couple cruise control with radar sensors to prevent collisions. And costs can skyrocket when a mfrs takes responsibility for the auto control of a bike. They might need to add tilt sensors so unreasonable speeds are not maintained around sharp curves, etc. It can get complex very quickly. Maybe you want a brake sensor to turn off the cruise control, etc.

It's maybe the only oil you can buy that actually dramatically improves the engine and gearbox. It felt like I had completely re-tuned my engine and installed a better clutch when I switched from special ordered Amsoil, to Motul 7100. The Amazon reviews indicate the same effect from thousands of other people who switched to Motul 7100.

Transalp all day long for me . they have a new aftermarket 220mm suspension for it that would make it on par with other adjustable suspensions out there. Plus the Honda looks much better.i would even pick it over the T7. 09 HP for 208 KG hard to beat for that price point. Honda nailed it with this bike i'm on the wait list here in US to grab one. Great video guys.

The Honda Transalp is the best sounding ADV bike ever made. There's nothing else that sounds as good with a fully stock exhaust. It's absolutely insanely awesome sounding. There are entire segments of reviews just doing sound performance drive by's to hear the beautiful sound.

I would argue that the Honda doesn't necessarily have less torque in the mid range, it's just because the gearing is so tall. It's pulling a whisker under 4000rpm at 110kph! So it would be fairer to compare the acceleration from the the same revs rather than the same gear.

That V-Strom seems super fun off-road cruiser. Just needs a can, air filter and a map by the sounds of it. Never thought I'd ever want one of these, but I'd consider it lol Feck, is this what turning 40+ is about? MW Semi-soft bikes? Soft-semis already. Christ lol 😂

One big thing to also consider if venturing off road or just touring is that the Honda has Tubless tires. The thought of breaking down a tire in the middle of nowhere on such heavy bikes is a deal breaker for many. Most flats can be dealt with by just putting a plug in and filling up with air to get you somewhere else. Suzuki should get on that.The old vstrom 650 has spoked wheels and tubless tires.

Suzuki for me. I think only the price sells the Honda. But that is a personal opinion. The character in the engine might also sell a few but anything else goes to the Suzuki. If you want the Suzuki to be lighter put less fuel in. Plus it’s said it doesn’t feel its weight by reviewers.

Best comparison I’ve seen so far. I came to the same kind of conclusions as you did. I thought the Suzuki was better suited for dirt road than the Honda. Although both do it very well. I am not confident enough to try anything serious on these adventure bikes to find there limitations. I preferred the Honda as it is easier for me at 5’9” to get my feet down and I could feel it being lighter. The Suzuki, I can get my feet down but it’s definitely harder to paddle. I am not sure the grunt test is that fair as I thought the Suzuki is geared slightly shorter. For example, the Honda cruises at 4k revs at 70 where as the Suzuki Revs 500 to 600 higher at that speed. Where as the Suzuki edges it on dirt roads and green lanes, the Honda more than edges the contest on road. The Honda engine is a real peach.

70mph (112km/h) @ 4000 RPM ? That's pretty good for a twin. 28km/h per 1000rpm - that's about the same as older model VStrom 1050.

Masterful comparison that reflects real world experience/performance without the focus on stats. In my experience of having to go to a lighter motorcycle (Africa Twin to NC750X) due to age (76), arthritis etc, I was prepared to lose a good deal of riding enjoyment. I mean the NC only has 58 hp and was touted by some reviews as being slow and boring. But it had a duel clutch transmission and therefore no clutch lever my arthritic hand was required to pull. I’m not ready for a scooter so the Honda DCT was really my only option. However, all my fears have proved unnecessary as the NC is a joy to ride. Fun with real world capabilities in curves, cruising at 60 or effortless riding at 80. Got some punch off the line and acceptable passing power. Bottom line, it’s more than the stats would suggest.
@Steve-motorcycles
@Steve-motorcycles Жыл бұрын
@@rickseibel5904 the NC750dct is a much underrated bike. The DCT definitely has its place as your comment proves. I test rode one when it first came out and didn’t think much, but the later versions are a whole, whole lot better. The great thing with the NC750 is the weight is carried low down and also the torque makes up for any perceived lack of power. It lacks no power for 95% of road riding. In my opinion, all bikes are fun.

So, I own a 2019 crf250L Rally and am a former dl650 owner. Ive just found out about the 800de a couple days ago and have been drooling ever since. Your videos have been great to watch and I’m finding myself looking at trade in values and such. Perhaps I’ll wait until 2024 to see if any gremlins appear, and incentives as well. Suzuki is well known for discounting prior year bikes in the beginning of a new year. Great videos. Thanks for taking the time and greeting from Florida.
