I like the go almost anywhere, do everything cheaply , hysterically fun way to get from here to there . I can't stop giggling when I am riding . And with $4 or $5 bucks of premium fuel that's a lot of happiness in my perspective . A close second place is my Honda Navi , equally as fun and even simpler to operate. If you can ride a bike , the Navi is just easier , just twist and go . For pennies per mile . Please add a comment .

I bought one. I've been wanting to get into motorcycling, but lack of experience on one and being a little short, 5ft 5" I was having a hard time figuring out what to get. This bike popped into my radar June 3rd, bought one June 4th. I've taken a class and have been practicing a bunch, taken a few trips to the coast, from the Willamette valley, numerous excursions on gravel back roads and I'm in love!! 2000 miles so far!! Stoked!!

Yessir, definitely a great starter bike or an extra toy for experienced guys to tool around on and have fun without worrying about breaking the bank as it never hurts to have an extra around to just bash on lol! The cheaper they are, the more us enthusiasts end up just impulse buying them when we're at the dealer and despite a few cons, I think these are going to continue to sell like hotcakes for quite some time because heck, what else can you buy new for less than $3,000 and hit the streets as well as play in the dirt? NOTHING! Haha it's like you're reading my mind with the editing schedule lately! If my memory is correct, you mentioned the XR150L in one of my last videos and I mentioned it was up next and now you mentioned the SCL500 and I'll give you one guess as to what I'm editing right now... yup, the SCL! Appreciate the kind words and support as always bud ;)

Not just as a starter bike, but for what it is in the rest of the world: an economical commuter capable of handling bad pavement and dirt roads at the same time. The mechanical tripmeter, carb, and drum brake in the rear remind me of my days starting out riding small displacement scooters back in the 1990's.

I'm 59 y/o, 200#, 6'2" with a 36 inch inseam. It fits me quiet well. If the hump wasn't on the seat I could slide back about 3 more inches but my legs are still a little cramped but it's not horrific. Been out of riding for about 8 years so great re-introduction bike. I live in NW Wisconson so in my area I ride on secondary/gravel roads as it takes forever to reach 55mph. I wouldn't feel safe on a highway with my weight then add a headwind, uphill etc and I will 100% have to downshift and rev 4th gear just to maintain power (in some cases down to 3rd gear). But I knew it was a 700cc going into it so I have to pre-plan my routes. Just hit 600 miles on it and getting 80 miles per gallon which may improve over time. I found a white one and $3,400 out the door after tax, title, set up fee etc. I have to say it's fun and I actually like "cruising" at 45 mph. No regrets. However, mc manufacturers have to step it up. Covid was quite some time ago and I think it's crappy that it's so extremely difficult to find the bike a person wants. All the advertising, hype, etc. doesn't matter if there is basically zero inventory!

I'm 69 years old and a disabled veteran. The clutch on my new bike failed because of improper assembly after only 223 miles and Honda will not warranty a clutch because it's a normal wear item. The headlight failed and so did the starter. Now the bike sits in my garage and I'm not able to do the bending to fix it because of my severe disabilities. Honda in Harrison Arkansas will not warranty the bike and wants $300 to $500 to get it running again after it only has 223 miles on it. A terrible shame.

@@NorthPoleJeff I would suggest finding a good mechanic first . I have a idea the clutch burned-out because you where slipping the clutch and not just engaging it , after all it's only 12 hp. not 200 hp. . I personally have never seen a honda anything clutch blow up for over half a million miles. If true then buy a honda Navi no clutch. The light is normally a fuse , I replace mine with LED . 100,000 Asians can't be wrong.
@NorthPoleJeff
@NorthPoleJeff 10 ай бұрын
Thank you very much. I took the bike apart and found that the clutch push rod was installed incorrectly. This did not allow the clutch to become totally engaged and it required the cable to be adjusted totally to the end for the clutch to work at all. It was a Honda assembly problem. I am working with the Arkansas Attorney General on this because Honda owes me $450 parts and labor plus six weeks of storage since Honda did not have any clutches in the United States. I will never quit and I will never buy anything from Honda ever again. @@philipcloutier2553

If I had to choose between the XR150L and the Trail CV125, I'd choose the XR150L. It's a standard motorcycle, normal shifting, upright position, great gas milage, a cleanable and repairable carburetor, normal tire sizes, etc. Just a more standard bike for North America. (In the rest of the world, the Trail 125 is probably more common, but I'd still choose a standard style motorcycle).

big positive of the carburetor is easier upgradeability, if this xr150l becomes a hot seller for years, then shops will bring in bore-up and stroker kits, no need for expensive ecu hardware and software to tune

Great video, very good. This same model was sold here in Brazil for a long time, initially with 125 cc and later with 150 cc. Today it is for sale as the NXR 160 Bros, bringing more modernity with the digital panel, electronic injection, disc brakes on both wheels and, obviously, a larger displacement. We also don't have ABS, Ride Modes or Clutch Assist, but the bike is a top seller in the segment, a darling.

Way back in 1972, I was 11 years old and was gifted a new Honda SL 70. I loved that bike! Then, I outgrew it. I sold it and bought a used 1973 Honda SL 175 several years later. This too, was a really great dual-purpose bike to me. I would assume this new Honda XR150L is as good as the Honda SL 175 I once owned. Today, I wish I still had both of those old bikes!

I live outside of Philly and Camden, NJ. There is a growing subculture of urban dirt bike riders, they just ride through the city popping wheelies and having a blast. I see a lot of cheap no name import stuff they ride. Their stuff gets impounded regularly, I can see a bike like the XR150L being an attractive option for this group. It's at the right price to compete with the cheap import bikes, it's a Honda and it can be ridden on the street legally so the cops have a harder time taking it away permanently.

A great bike that Honda has priced appropriately that will be let down by obscene dealer markups and "market adjustments". At least this is true in my area with the out the door price being nearly double the msrp moving it into territory it simply can not compete in. I applaud Honda for their products but maybe it's time to address the dealer issues.

For me, this Honda was a great addition to my DRZ400 which is pretty old school as well. It's really a great bike on country & forest service roads here in the mountains. There's not a mile of straight road where I live, super fun & nimble in the curves. I learned on old hondas, so I'm right back where I started😅. Changed footpegs, adjusted clutch. Now, I just need an after market skid plate & hand guards. This wouldn't be my choice if it was my only bike, but a great addition to the toy chest!

Been riding the XR150L here in the Philippines for a year now. Great little bike for trails and Intercity commuting, ditched the fresh air system for a K/N mushroom air filter and Akrapovic exhaust system . Paid 90,000 pesos cash or about 1,600 USD for the 2022 model. Riding for almost 40 years and the last 20 on baggers. I bought a 150 in Honduras to cruise around when vacationing and I love it, it hauls my 200Lb. butt up gnarly uphills and can cruise at 60 MPH with no problem. The suspension and handling are great specially in rough dirt roads. The only thing I had to do was increase the pilot jet a couple of sizes as it was too lean and hard to start from the factory. Oh one more thing, this thing is chunky, you need to eat your wheaties or call a buddy to lift it on a stand.

Well this is a fantastic little bike easy on the pocket easy to look at , smooth ride comfortable seat , great for the city and country back roads , and light trails . The only thing Honda should do is sell us the XR190L instead or both . With fuel injection a gas gauge . A couple more mph top speed and even better fuel mileage. Finger crossed I can now only wish for a big bore kit and some fancy tuning . I do like the stock quite exhaust. We have to check to hear if it's running.. I use mine as a grocery getter with a tank bag and large expandable tail bag . Then go have coffee with the guys and gals .. Perfect 👌 . At the gas pump I chuckle to myself filling up as even premium does not cost very much .

Not interested in selling me a grom, ruckus , or the ct125. So they can keep them. I tried to buy a Honda. Ended up with a Yamaha because the dealer was way more helpful in purchasing one.

I like mine overall.Had to modify the foot brake and shift lever to be far more inboard as would be braking or changing gears inadvertently. I wish the seat did not have the hump. Find sitting further back greatly improves the ride quality and control of the bike. I want a humpless seat! For the record, have about 17,000 miles of off road riding. Left the XR500R behind as am to old and to weak to handle that wheely pulling bike in my old age.

I have been eyeing one of these for my wife who is wanting to learn to ride a motorcycle to eventually get her license, but wanting to gain some experience and build some confidence on a small, lightweight, non intimidating bike first. My dr 650 is too tall and too heavy for her. The more i think about it this little honda checks all those boxes, the price is definitely right. I figure either this or a yamaha tw200 for her would do nicely

Ooooo, I like your thinking there! Sadly, Japan made Hondas are becoming more and more rare these days in an effort to keep price points down. I do have to say though, from my experience of dealing with them since 2006, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference as to where they were manufactured, but... this XR, clearly isn't one of them lol! Thanks for not only watching but jumping in the conversation too, appreciate ya ;)

@@HondaProKevin Yeah, I feel lucky that my 450L came from Japan. I’m thinking one of these 150Ls might be my next bike. There’s times I don’t want to get geared up and wrestle the 450L, and it’s not great for running errands. LOL. Surprisingly, the build quality of the 150L I rode far exceeded the quality of a 2014 CB500X I had for a while. Might go shopping here in a week or two. Thanks for doing what you do.

Thanks, Kevin, and for sure so many uses and reasons for that 150 to be added to the quiver and there is nothing wrong with simplicity and tried-and-true tech. And it is probably just me because I go back half-a-century as a rider, but I could do without some of that fantastic plastic around the headlight, makes the bike look like a transformer or something and that's probably the intent. Be easier for Honda to just advertise it as a scary 150 and call it Godzilla. 😀
@HondaProKevin
@HondaProKevin Жыл бұрын
Yessir, the different use cases for something like this when paired up with that price tag are definitely going to help this bike stick around for a while - despite it not being all "fancy" with the latest tech etc that so many manufacturers think people "have" to have before they'll buy nowadays. The Grom's popularity over the last decade has definitely shown American Honda that we like to have simple and cheap toys too and I'm all for more and more of these affordable bikes being brought to the table! We just gotta make sure that Honda quality and reliability stays intact though... lol I hear ya and I like that Godzilla idea! I'm not a huge fan of the design with the headlight cowl and fender nor the side plastics as their placement and overall proportions looks a little "cheap" for lack of a better word, when compared to some of the CRF models but that seems to be the case a lot of the time when it comes to these models that were originally designed for other markets. However, I can look past some of that when it's cheap cheap lol! As always, I really appreciate the kind words and support in all of this, Robb. Thank you...

Even if it would bump base prices $300 or so, I think Honda should make LED headlights standard on this XR150L and the CRF300L line. Some markets outside U.S. already get the better light on their CRF300L and they frankly just look better and more modern in my opinion. Kawasaki has recently switched their entire KLX230/300 line over to LED lights, and they make the current Honda 150's and 300's look 10 years older by comparison. They already have the LED headlight in the CRF450RL parts bin, what gives???

Yessir, people are definitely going to have to adjust their mindset when it comes to "Honda build quality" and these cheaper bikes that weren't normally slated for the US. And like you said, you get what you pay for and that's evident once you start taking a closer look at bikes like this XR and the NAVi - it's night and day between them and most of Honda's other models in the lineup and I don't say that to knock them as we NEED cheaper options being brought to the table. 100%! She's still a fun toy to whip around on and I think these are going to continue to sell like hotcakes for quite some time as there are sooooo many different types of riders across all ages that can have a blast on one of these! I’ve been intrigued and interested for many months. Wife and I have done a lot of bike packing including pedaling from Canada to Mexico along the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. The GDMBR has some overlaps with a dual sport motorcycle route. Would love to repeat that journey a couple times on an XR150. Also very interested in riding Trans American Trail from Atlantic to Pacific. Still haven’t decided if that will be on mountain bike, e-bike, or XR150. Each machine choice has a cascade of different social and logistical implications. If I had more garage space and less rules in my 55+ community we’d already have a pair of CR150s and just be using them for short getaway trips.

It's a bit amusing that a bike that has been a standard menu item in SE Asia and Latin America is all the hype and buzz here in the States. It's because the bike mfgrs. have totally skipped the sub 250cc size class almost altogether (except bikes like the TW200 and a few 200cc or less MX, or minimizes like Grom, etc.) in a frame that is not shrunken like a mini. We've been needing/wanting these kind of bikes for years, after watching the market offering only 800cc and up. It's really flooded in those sizes, and just not practical for the masses.

My first bike was a BMW G310GS that was used (though it only had 200 miles on the clock) and I paid $4,000 for it. For just $1000 more, you’re into a totally different category of bike that is still beginner friendly. The only thing the XR150 has to offer is a lower seat height.
