New Honda ZR-V review: WTF?!

This is the Honda ZR-V!
It sits in the middle of Honda’s SUV range - roomier than the HR-V but smaller than the CR-V. The question is, should you choose it over either of these cars or even in place of competitors such as a Kia Sportage or Nissan Qashqai?
When it comes to the design, the new ZR-V is notably different from both the HR-V and CR-V. Up front, it comes with a relatively small grille, with vertical slats that give it a sporty edge, looking relatively similar to an AMG! There’s some black cladding around the wheel arches to help it stand out, and at the back, there’s a sloping roofline and some LED tail lights.
The interior of the car looks very similar to the Honda Civic - and that’s no bad thing! There’s a fair amount of soft-touch materials to be found, although look a little lower and you’ll find a few bits of scratchy plastic. Thankfully though these can be overlooked as the new infotainment system more than makes up for it. This model also comes with a fully digital dial display, although entry and mid-range cars only come with part digital/part analogUE dials.
When it comes to engine choices, there’s only one. It’s a 2-litre turbo petrol, which is used to power a battery that subsequently powers a motor that drives the front wheels. To be honest, it’s all a bit complicated!
The Honda ZR-V range starts from around £39,000, rising up to around £43,000 for top-of-the-range models. So is it worth it? Or should you consider a Qashqai or Tiguan instead? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

About that "CVT". The wheels will be completely powered by the electric motor (with engine as a generator of course) between 0 to 70mph. Once the car is at cruising highway speeds, the engine takes over. (The engine is connected to the wheels via a single speed gear whose ratio is pretty much the same as the final gear in regular manual cars). This is different from Toyota's e-cvt BTW

Quietly competent is probably the best way to describe this. Priced competitively and will probably last longer than it's competitors. I would personally get the civic though unless i needed the clearance for getting kids in and out.

It’s a US Honda HR-V but as a hybrid and it actually has wireless Androiauto but you have to activate it over the maintenance menu. The trunk got a kick opener too and the ZR-V has a low speed emergency brake system, for example, if it thinks your reversing into something it will brake automatically. Also the engine is the same as in the civic, the eCVT isn’t a CVT it’s the electric motor and it has a maximum range of about 1180km. (If you put your foot on the foot rest beside the brake you won’t have the problem with your leg)

Nice reveiw, I have that same bone in my leg, no I don't have this car. it was great to hear this review. I have an 2023 HRV and thought about this and the e:Ny1. I would agree with "hard to hate, easy to forget". the trunk space could be more as on the two cars I've mentioned and the ZRV. I can manage to get my smaller guitar in the back without putting a seat down (HRV), but a cello needs the seat down, which this car would be the same I guess. What about the back door operation? He carried the one guy but no sensor to open with an arm-full? The price for this car a little expensive, but it does have the pop-up speed display. I guess that was meant as a bit of humor, where they had the "0" appear since the car wasn't moving. I thought it might have been nice to add the seat ventilation as they have on the new CRV but, that's for another price range I guess. The Civic sounds like a better choice (I think less cost too), no pop-up. We're waiting for an all-electric Jazz.

That's more like an Opel Ampera (Vauxhall Ampera). Although it may not seam so; that's a very efficient and smart technology. It's cost and weight effective, minimizes the use of components that eventually ware off and have to be replaced, like clutch, gear box, etc. If your objective is to use it as a commuter car, mostly in electric mode, you don´t need a huge batterie, and accept the fact that, from time to time, you'll burn some petrol..

At the price, I'd want a great deal more than 'reasonable'. The boot space is definitely not. The petrol filler is on the ever annoyingly wrong side for UK. The rear seats give no support and are too low for your aged parents or tall student age children. I am sure I could easily find many more faults, but can't be bothered. Buy something else, anything else! The design certainly won't impress the neighbours either. He never mentioned the cost of Honda servicing, parts or insurance. So much for quality, the small glovebox is scratched already!

Gear stick selector- I have RA , Many people have arthritis in hands , my last 2 cars I chose for many reasons , I always watch Carwow and see what Matt says then I look at the gearstick , I need to use 2 hands to go from Drive to reverse. My current car is 2023 Cupra formentor VZ , small easy to use gear changer , previous car was a 2022 Mercedes GLB , column change .I don’t like Honda , but I would consider because of that gear selection. Carwow maybe look at designs for health reasons not just from the point of a fit presenter

ZR-V is essentially a Honda counterpart to a Corolla Cross. Just like CR-V is to a RAV4 and a HR-V is to a CH-R. But just for a moment, put the front fascias of ZR-V and Corolla Cross side-by-side and you’ll notice the twin sister resemblance.

I’ll save you the time since I owned a 2022 XT, the CVT is terrible and has a huge design flaw that will cause it to squeak when shifting. Customer service with Subaru is best of the best though. Overall I let it go because of the transmission

Also the vehicle has major issues off-road where you lose all power and the engine will just humm ( regardless of the mode, tcs etc) mine got stuck in light sand and needed to be towed out.
