In this video I show you a first look at the new honey house!
Its been a long road and we have had a few knock backs over the years slowing and even stopping our plans! The pandemic and the cost of living has effected everyone and our honey farm is not immune. We had to delay our plans for a new honey house for two years! But thankfully we are now in a position to it done!
The bigger honey house will revolutionise our honey farm and hopefully speed up the process drastically! Allowing us to keep more bees, produce more honey and bottle more!
This new room will allow us to jar and extract honey at the same time as they will be in different rooms!
Hope you enjoy the journey.

For the floor I’d go poured self levelling compound and use floor paint - cheap and durable

Recommended is a roller conveyor through the middle from the truck to the bottling, and back out again. With a grate covered shallow drain running below it.

Plastic tile flooring. Very durable and easy to clean. We fit a lot of it in many different trades. I think it would be a good option for you. 👍🏻

looks great mate. I'd recommend some heavy duty lino flooring. easy to put in and easy to repair and replace. Also look into getting a drain in the floor, make cleaning the honey room ten times easier when you can just squeegee any messes into the drain.

And natural Lino has antibacterial properties which is why they use it in hospitals.

Being from a Gamekeeping family I would have my floor washing drain outside. Wash and sweep the floor out onto the front step and runs down into your drain. Remember your drain needs to go to soak away and not a septic tank as the honey will kill the bacteria you need in the tank. Big drain pipes be fine.

You could try a stick down thick vinyl tile (LVT). They go by the name of "Amtico flooring" or "Karndean Luxury Vinyl Flooring". I was undecided exactly the same as you when kitting out my garage. I drive a large van over it all day and it's perfect. You can choose the colour and style and if for any reason one was to get damaged you can just replace it. Defo worth a look buddy.

How about a channel running the full length of the building. Grille over the top for normal use. Emptying out through a rodding u-bend at the back of the building. The channel would be easily cleaned. No build up of wax or propolis. I'm so envious. 😂

Honey extracting house looking good. How about a concrete floor with a polished finish. Easy to clean and cheap and to give it a bit of colour if you don't like it plain add resin chippings on the surface before smoothing the surface... look up smooth concrete floors on the net there's some really nice finishes and no worries re ripping or curling like lino does..

As someone has mentioned, polished concrete is a good option. Just make sure it is ground smooth. A good commercially installed epoxy is also good, but expensive. Stuff coming up thru a floor drain should be a non-issue. There is a P trap that has a water seal when properly installed. Just remember to pour a glass of water down the drain to maintain that seal if you go for long periods without using it. Also dont wash wax down it.

How about radiant heat in the floors? It keeps the room warm and helps dry the floor after clean up.

I think you will regret not having a floor drain when your mopping all that water up at cleaning time. Install one and cover it up with a plate) Just use 4" with a P-trap, Grey floor paint, and a couple of ceiling fans. And then sell me your old honey spinner 😋😉

This is going to improve productivity no end, a great investment. However, in my opinion, no floor drain is a mistake. You could use a closed one that's only opened when required. If you don't have one, you could make sure that there's no door lip, so you can squeegee water straight outside.

Looking good. What size sheets does the plastic you have used on the wall and ceiling come in? How they are fixed on?

I think their 1ft X 5m their nailed on but the fixings are hidden by the overlapping sheets

There is some great floor sealing products on the market. I've delivered coatings that were used in distilleries, so there designed against chemicals and your able to steam clean and obviously use cleaning chemicals. These are From flooring specialists.

lovely to see your expansion, Word of caution on fibreglass insultation, it will slump over time leave the upper sections with a voids and cold spots. Regarding the floors I would go for a concrete screed and factory floor grade paint. I see no floor drains? best to put in now as after you completed it will be a real pain best include catchment sump, or a few rodding drains. "edit" i cant believe a food inspector told you that about floor drains that is crazy.
