Thanks for sharing the history of such a lovely locomotive! Living in NC, I'm kind sad she's far from her home, but I'm glad she's found herself found herself a loving home, where she's operated and taken cared for. I think your next episode should be on the CN 1533.

I'm not particularly into locomotives of any kind, but I grew up in New Hope and could hear engine #40 and see the clouds of steam every day, so I've always been really fond of it. I've heard a handful of different whistles over the years, like the "ghost whistle" they would use every Halloween season, but that bell chime is a very familiar sound. I'm pretty sad that last time I went to visit New Hope in 2022, 40 wasn't running, I would have really loved to see it again. I know it's expensive to keep a steam engine running but I hope it keeps kicking for a long time. Also this is definitely not the type of video I would have expected the Undertale soundtrack in, haha

#40 is a beautiful locomotive. And this video is wonderful to watch. Looking like a professionally produced video, It is perfectly executed. Refreshing music, placed in the audio background under a well-scripted narration, by an easily understood voice. A rarity on KZbin. As society continues to wipe out our history, this is a record of our past, and the salvaging of part of it, by keeping #40 alive and operating. Would such inspiration continue by dedicated people. Looking forward to more; and it doesn't need to be just railroad history.

The bell is only hand rung when the pneumatic rocker which is located on the engineer's side of the bell isn't behaving. In my experience it is hand rung about 20% of the time. Even when it is working rather well it occasionally needs someone to give the bell cord a pull to help start it in motion and from there the pneumatic rocker can carry on the ringing without assistance.

I think the loco should try out a PRR single chime "Banshee" whistle. You do not hear many of those.
@Thunderbolt_1000_Siren4 жыл бұрын
That would be perfect for the ghost trains as the New Hope crews always outdo themselves with their ghost trains every year. I can just imagine sitting by a crossing like Aquetong rd or Lower Mountain rd in the pitch dark of night and all you hear is that ghostly Banshee echoing through the valley. A Reading Hooter (much like 2102's stock whistle) would increase the creep factor since the line use to be owned by the Reading.

@Thunderbolt_1000_Siren4 жыл бұрын
It's said in the video. She does wear a RDG 6 chime. The only difference between 90's and 40's RDG 6 chimes is 40's appears to sound at a lower pitch (Likely due to the smaller boiler and the fact 90 has 5% more boiler pressure) Both are also Baldwin products (90 being completed 1 year before 40 in June 1924)
@SoutheastPARailfan4 жыл бұрын
