Thanks for the review! I’ve been a massive fan of hourglass products, but have stopped with their complexion products lately due to the lack of diversity in their colour range. I’m very fair skinned, so most of their complexion palettes have worked for me before (some have been too deep for me) but the volume 2 fiasco put me off them as a brand completely. Glad to see they’ve finally listened and taken a first step to making their complexion products more inclusive. Hope this isn’t just a one off and lasts after Christmas.

I am so happy that you like this, the palette look amazing on you and I think it gives a lovely, airbrushed glow. I think it wouldn't hurt for them to come out with a Volume IV, but I am very pleased about this addition. I'm finally feeling confident in ordering it, but I'm glad I waited! Their marketing photos were a bit off here.

Before people say its not dark enough, remember it is a SHEER POWDER! Next the need to come out with darker bronzers, I use them on EVERYONE except my deeper skin clients. I own all her powders in my kit and have always switched to a different brand when I want a similar product for deeper skin. I'm SO excited for this launch cause now all my client can enjoy this product and also I can!!! Thank you for this review, you're always on top of it!

Looks great! I can see myself buying it. I used the travel sized bronzer of the past, as a natural looking highlighter. It worked very well for me. The stick foundation didn’t have a color match for me.

Hmm good points. KZbin recommended this video , I’m glad I found you! I usually buy products made for deeper skin tones ( I’m very pale, but, I can make them work- using no foundation usually does the trick ) because I want to always support that type of product. I also seen many people I watch being hurt by Hourglass and the “ghost edit” was ( imo ) a clear message from them and I have written them off. If it works for deeper skin tones , I’d buy it if it goes on sale but idk I have this thing, if I known a brand or person has been racist I can’t use their products and feel good about it. I use to love my Ofra products but now I always feel disappointed when I use them and I don’t want to waste my products. I can’t use my one Natasha Denona palette or the Kat Von D pastel palette without feeling disgusted. It’s hard to say, right? But I do now see your point, like don’t give them the excuse to say “ah we were right, they won’t buy luxury “ when it’s proven that is wrong. Gucci and Charlotte Tilbury released bronzers that sold and created so much buzz last year

Thank you! They do have a sparkle in them, but you can’t actually tell when they’re on the face, which is nice. I’d say they give a radiant finish and more of a natural glow than being super shiny. The highlight is very natural on, but definitely doesn’t look as good built up over too much makeup. Although even when I did that, it was pretty easy to blend in. I’d say it’s definitely one of my most natural powder highlights. Mainly because it’s so soft and the shade is spot on - and it’s not too glittery! ☺️💕

Great review. You might want to try buffing the powders in with a large flat buffing brush. Finishing powders like this are best used to make a more soft focused look without that heavy build up. These powders are not formulated for coverage.

There is room for a deeper shade however am glad they didn't go too deep coz that would exclude many dark skin individuals, it's a finishing powder, not really a bronzer. So some people will be able to use the darker shade as finishing powder.

I have a veeerrrrryyy controversial opinion about the "houglass not being inclusive" take that is out there. Disclaimer I am a woc. I think this started with the owner saying something along the lines of black women not being the demographic so what is the point of catering to black women (in different words of course but this was main point). But I always wondered how this was said because a lot of people took it as her meaning "I don't care for bw so why should we make products for them". But I always wondered if she meant " Bw don't buy our products so why should we make products that cater to that audience". Because in that time period (pre fenty beauty) having an inclusive shade range wasn't the standard and from a bussiness standpoint having an inclusive shade range is an incredibly costly investement so you have to make sure there is an audience for it ( stephanie nicole explained the bussiness side of this in one her videos ). Not trying to start an argument in these comments or anything just generally wondering? Thoughts anyone? Eta: I missed the fake " deep skitone pallete" last year. I caught it the second time I watched the video. That's suspicious that's weird ( in my Cardi B voice)

It’s a really valid and interesting question and the topic is the reason I started Slapp and Rihanna started Fenty and more brands now cater to deeper skin tones. Essentially Woc have always existed and Woc have always enjoyed spending money on their appearance/presentation. The problem with a lot of brands pre Fenty is that they said Woc don’t buy our products, so we don’t cater to them. Yet in actuality Woc didn’t buy their products because these brands were not catering to them. How can you purchase something that doesn’t exist? What Fenty proved was that if you build it we will come and that’s why when hundreds of people queued outside Fenty counters around the world for weeks (when the foundation launched), these brands finally paid attention; because it proved that we will buy if these products are made for us. The problem with some brands now is that because they have not shown a desire to cater to Woc and now suddenly have jumped on the cash wagon, a lot of Woc (very justifiably) do not want to support these brands, as for so long they have made a point of not supporting them 💕

I do sort of agree with what you said about the business side of things as Stephanie Nicole said. One thing people don't realize is black women in western countries are a minority so regardless of how much they spend, they will never spend as much as the people in the light to medium skintone range which includes just about everyone in the world meaning Asia, South Americans, Middle East, North Africans, Europeans, etc. These brands also don't care to sell in subsaharan Africa where majority of dark skinned people are. I can tell you being from Nigeria that we pay more than double the price of items you call expensive. So their investment in making those dark skintones will never equal the return they get when compared to light to medium skintone.

I totally boycotted HG due to their blatant lack of inclusivity. Tbh, I'm still not buying from them - I'm just so angry and disgusted that a high end brand would exclude half of it's potential customers! I hope this palette in particular flies off the shelves, proving to HG that deeper skintones ought never to be ignored again. I also hope people with light light/medium skintones completely shun their latest Edit edition. Therefore, making the only profitable products the ones for deeper skintones. That would be awesome and hilarious 😆. Incidentally, I do believe a volume IV ought to follow very quickly as I think there's room to go deeper/richer/darker. PS : Try swishing your brush across all three powders - the finish is beautiful 😊😊

That would! I just tried the Edit and wasn’t bowled over. I totally agree a Volume IV would be fantastic and definitely needed. Thanks so much for the tip. I will definitely try that next time, as I can imagine that being lovely ☺️💕

I think it just shows that they think of people with deeper skin as an afterthought when they are called out, instead of bring inclusive in 2021! Isn't this evident in the new holiday palettes this year? They've at least brought out two, but the darker of the two is still not suitable for darker skin! Don't see anything really changing in the brand, which can definitely afford to change. They've done this version to shut people up!

You are right and I definitely did feel that after trying the Unlocked Palette. Definitely did not feel as considered or inclusive as the Volume III. Such a shame because the Volume III is lovely and such a great step forward. They just need to be consistent and inclusive in everything not just a one off ☺️💕
