Yeah, it's kind of tough to do when you are both playing fast at the end. There should be a buzzer when it hits zero. Otherwise, according to that setting they could both flag without knowing who flagged first.

That's some bs of you're playing by the clock how is it a rule that if you flag the opponent has to say anything whats the reason of playing with the clock then. Dude flat out ran out of time before he mated the guy so HE LOST THE GAME

I agree - how can you expect the opponent to point out that you've flagged when they're both frenziedly pinching on time?! The clock should simply decide.

If it makes you feel better, then just think of it as the other guy winning. These guys are part of a friendly group that play tons of games together. Neither of them is going to lose any sleep over this. Also, it doesn’t matter what we think of a rule. If they both agreed to abide by it beforehand, then that’s their agreement and they both honored it.
