NEW Ibis DV9 First Trail Ride

Thanks. This is a great bike and yet there are few real reviews on it. I have the XT build in the Muddy Waters colorway. You’re right, the Ibis wheels are pretty decent, but I wanted higher engagement, so I built a pair of Stan’s Arch MK 4 with DT Swiss 240 hubs, the rear hub being the new DEG version with 90 POE ratchet. It’s great, and surprisingly quiet. Time will tell regarding reliability, but I expect it will hold up very well. And it’s way easier to service than 350 or normal 240. I just saw that Ibis now offers a freehub body for both SRAm and Shimano that doubles the standard 36 POE, and it’s only about $70. Beats buying a 300-500 dollar hub to achieve the same thing. I love the DV9. It loves to go hard, dawdles very comfortably, is very sure footed, nimble, precise, but by no means harsh. It climbs exceptionally well and goes downhill better than it should. This bike wants to go fast, so fast that I have to remind myself I’m on a hardtail and maybe better keep it reined in before I get into trouble. It’s perfect for riding lots of different terrain types here in hilly south central Indiana; loose gravel, packed gravel, clay, limestone of all grades , rough cut and machine made trails, even bushwhacking. I think it really shines on flowy green and blue trails and makes them more interesting. Of the dozen or so mountain bikes I’ve had, the DV9 is by far the most broadly capable. Also happens to be the most comfortable and the most fun. Pretty good package, eh?

I do agree, a fantastic bike and I am still exploring its full range of capability. The one limitation I have found is the front tire, I don’t think it quite matches the bikes capability and I have over cooked it a couple times, so might do something a little more aggressive there. I am seriously considering trying a 140mm fork on it next year to see how that is, but it’s pretty damn spot on now.

I bought this bike after following your channel and your other fat bikes. I might agree that it’s the best hard tail made right now. I did have to invest some time and money, dialing it in. A couple stems. Fork pressure. Slipping and sliding adjustments here and there.

Nice, congrats! Yeah the more I ride it the more I am thinking about trying a longer stem on it. While I think it’s probably dialed at 120mm, I have also thought about maybe trying a 140mm fork on it, maybe next year.

@@ElevationEveryWeekend I went with a 90mm stem. Totally different bike. It doesn’t look as bad as it sounds either. FYI, there is a Specialized Epic hardtail on deep discount an hour away from me. Driving there this weekend.
