This is a way to get hard-to-find or more expensive plants for usually much cheaper! However, the steps to caring for imported plants is critical to ensure the successful acclimation of the plants in your home. Patience is key 🔑
Here are the steps:
Step 1: Unbox the plant and using sterilized sheers, cut away any rotted roots.
Step 2: Rehydrate the plant in water for at least an hour (I added probiotics and yucca extract. Some add a plant growth stimulant as well)
Step 3: Wrap the roots in moist sphagnum moss (extra: I sprinkled in root crack as well) and place in a tight cup
Step 4: Keep the plant in high humidity (close to 100%). I used a clear plastic box or you can even put the plant inside a ziplock bag.
Step 5: Be patient and wait. New roots and new growth are all positive signs that your plant is adjusting well.
When importing plants, make sure you have a reputable seller and follow all laws in your country when it comes to receiving live plants. In the US, phytosanitary certificates are required. In my case, the plants were imported to a US-based seller who had all the appropriate documentation and they subsequently shipped the plant to me, so I did not require any permits.
