New Infinity Fireteam Rules | Explained

Thank you so much for this. I'm a new player, and while I'm browsing the forums for learning resources about list-building and such, all I ever see is "fireteams, fireteams, fireteams..." One could be forgiven for thinking this game was about nothing but fireteams! I was legitimately shocked to learn they were in a rules annex and not part of the "core game," given the central position they seem to occupy in many players' minds. Maybe this is partially due to the balance issues you mentioned the old system had? Anyhow, I went and downloaded the annex rules and they just about made my head spin. A simple, concise explanation like this helped me ensure that I wasn't losing my mind. I'd love to see a follow-up video from you on this topic, maybe going over some play examples to help newcomers like me understand how to use fireteams and the actual rules of play surrounding them, since this video covers the basics of fireteam construction.

Yes, the reason for keeping them seperate is likely twofold. One, you can play the game without them (vanilla) and secondly, they might change as these newer rules bed in. I’m sure that can be done!

@@the_infinitygamer I was more referring to why people seemed so obsessed with them being that they were unbalanced, rather than why they're separate; as you said at the beginning, I fully understand that reasoning, seems like a good idea to me, I was just very surprised. Fireteams we’re always interesting. Some fireteam seemed unbalanced (Kamau sniper core) and others were almost unplayable (Starmada). The faction really dictated the usefulness of fireteams. With this update they seem to have made all sectorials playable and rebalanced the landscape. It’s really good!

I thought I had it down, but the way you explained it, showed me that the old link team benefits have changed, but they kind of haven't. It used to be +3BS if you had a full fireteam of five, and it can still be that if it's a pure fireteam. So if I take a pure fireteam of Domaru, I get the +1 burst, Sixth Sense, and +1BS, which is different, but because it's all Domaru, it ends up back the same as the old link benefits, with the +3 discover, and the BS getting up to +3 by the time the team is full. So nothing has changed, except for making fireteams slightly less powerful when they're not all the same. I assume that some factions can make some bonkers fireteams, and this curtails it a little.

Exactly! With the maths I think a 4 person pure link is more powerful than the old 4 person link but that’s splitting hairs really. Likewise a 3 person pure has more buffs than the old 3 person link. But yeah that’s splitting hairs really.

I'm going to get a chance to try this out tomorrow, finally getting to play infinity again after years, and after checking Army 7, I'm taking a four man Domaru link, with Neko, and a four man banzai link of Tanko with Mushashi. So a pure core team, and a harris team, I'm allowed one of each.

I'm new to Infinty and still trying to understand all those rules. Thanks to your video I understand that fireteams will give certain bonuses based on the size of the fireteam. But what I don't understand is, which units I can throw in a fireteam? Only those mentioned in the fireteams chart in the army builder app? That would mean, that I can't build a Nomads fireteam out of my Operation Crimson Stone box!?

You could make a Corregidor fireteam with 3 Alguacils and 1 Evader to make a 4 man core. You could do just the 3 Alguacils for a pure Haris. Amadeus is a wildcard so if you got him as part of your crimson stone bundle you could make a 5 man mixed core by adding him to the 3 Alguacils and Evader. So you could create a fireteam with your Crimson Stone set if you run Corregidor. You can also proxy models if you want to trial different fireteams.

This was a good overview, nice and succinct. I'm curious how this will impact vanilla forces compared to sectorials. It reads to me that vanilla will lose out with order efficiency...unless you can build Core/Haris sectorial fireteams in a vanilla list (eg a Starmada Security Haris team in a vanilla O-12 list)

You can only build a duo fireteam in vanilla but that’s a huge bonus from the old vanilla as it improves order efficiency

Oooh now that you mention it there’s a chance Tohaa had access to a weird special Haris in their vanilla but it’s definitely the exception if I’m remembering correctly.

I haven't gotten to play with the new teams yet but so far I like it. I've been going by Mixed and Un-Mixed. It's a bit of give and take I think. They took away bonuses for all teams but it's still there for a few and there's even more flexibility for those teams that do mix. So an unmixed Zhanshi team can get up to BS14, I can do an Un-Mixed Shang Ji that can get up to BS16 but I'll be paying for that because Shang Ji are expensive. Not a bad trade off. It's funny though how a mixed team can get better as they loose guys. Ie. 4 Zhanshi with 1 Shang JI. Mixed team at the start but then Shang Ji is down and they become Un-Mixed and gain the +3 Discover, and Zhanshi still have +1 to BS.

I’m actually starting to build lists with the expectation that I’ll lose the mixed ARO piece or aggressor quickly (either through death or breaking it) and then unleashing the power of the pure fireteam. It’s exciting to think of a force getting stronger as it gets a little smaller.

Very true! I had a 4 person Crosier link take out a mimetism -6 ninja at close range. They’re a great tool for a lot of jobs.

Do Infinity models come with all the weapons they can be equipped with? The models are the best Science Fiction models out there hands down (imo). Just curious if they come with all their weapon load out options.

No they generally have one weapon option (there’s one exception I can think of). However, infinity is much more proxy friendly than other war games and it’s rare for an entire army to be fielded WYSIWYG.

Open the fireteams chart in the army builder and scroll down to near the bottom. It will list all the wildcards there 😃

You’ve got a couple of good options for a Nox pure core. The 23 point Aïda Swanson could work nicely padding out your Nox troopers but you might look at a Haris with a sheskin and gwailo or Jayths. Lots of options 😃
