osrs playerbase has been growing year after year.. it wont hurt the main game at all, if anything it will most likely spark even more growth in general. people who want to play private servers are probably doing it already anyway.

I doubt it, people will always come back to the main servers. I'm guessing most of the private servers will just be game modes, and if there's any "main private servers," I can't imagine it hurting the player base all that much. Afterall, private servers have existed forever, and never hurt the game even before private servers became glorified cash shops.

I disagree. It's a motivator. People load into a private server, and they're doing raids in 2 hours. They've got max gear in 2 weeks. They're out of content in 2 months, and the server is dead in 6 months because the economy collapses for any number of reasons. But, you get to experience what that the OSRS endgame is like- except OSRS economy is actually stable. So most people return and get back on the grind. Most people that are playing on OSRS private servers are actively playing on their mains on OSRS, but they're AFKing NMZ.

The problem here is, Nobody is paying attention to what is happening on the side of rs3, and if anyone actually is you'd know and understand these merch prices and the membership prices are a way for Jagex and the new CEO to remove mtx (Specifically treasure hunter) from rs3. Its a very small price for us all to pay for the health of the main game. (albeit a little bit too late)
