The New Jersey Turnpike was my summer childhood, from 1971 to 1982. My grandparents lived in Brooklyn, New York - and my late father would always take it from the Delaware Memoriaal Bridge to exit 13, cross the Goethals Bridge, go through Staten Island to the Verrazano (sic) Narrows Bridge and on into Brooklyn. I loved this stretch of road. THANK YOU for uploading this and helping me remember those times long ago.

I enjoy the Turnpike very much, it gets better when it opens up at Exit 6

I was last on the NJ turnpike in 1999. I forget, but what exit is it that you can see the back of the Statue of Liberty from the turnpike. 👍

I appreciate the effort you put into this video! I recently did a video of the entire Turnpike, from the George Washington Bridge to the Delaware Memorial Bridge. I like the touch with the signs being put on the video.

I have been traveling on this turnpike for so many years and I know changes when I see them. The signs have gone small from EXIT 9 on up to the end. From EXIT 8a and down to Delaware, you see big arrows on the exit signs.

Most likely a cost-cutting measure, as well as possible conformity with USDOT regulations, given that the NJTP is officially now I-95 from Exit 6 to the George Washington Bridge. Might also be that eventually, the NJTP will switch over to a milepost-based system like what the Pennsylvania Turnpike did in the late 2000s (the exits were sequential; the Northeast Extension/I-476 continued the count from the Delaware River Bridge toll plaza to its terminus with I-81 near Scranton).

The New Jersey Turnpike of NJTP for short is one of the busiest tolled highways in the US. Also, I love to see the there are 4 carriage ways which are the outer ones are for all vehicles and the inner ones are for light vehicles, more specifically cars only.

That Exit 6 sign on the NJTP now says South 95 to West 276 (Penn Turnpike /Philadelphia) .

TouchyBanana indeed. Was it Pennsylvania that Innacted that? Cause I remember recently some projects in PA completed and the numbering of the exits changed.
@rwboa22

@@thomasjcox, what made this happened goes back to 1982 when NIMBYers in Mercer and Somerset Counties in New Jersey, along with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, lobbied both Congress and Trenton to cancel the Somerset Freeway, which would have routed I-95 north of Trenton through those counties to I-287, in which I-95 would have then merged into the NJTP at the exit with I-287 & NJ 440. Congress passed legislation that cancelled the Somerset Freeway, however stipulated that I-95 was to be rerouted into New Jersey using the Pennsylvania Turnpike (which didn't have an exit due to since-abolished laws that prohibited an Interstate Highway to directly join a toll highway, even though at that time, the PA Tpk. in Bristol, PA was designated and signed as I-276 and I-280 when I-76 was signed as I-80S). Looking at a map of NJ, it would have been easier to reroute I-95 over I-295 and I-195 and join the NJTP at Exit 7A, however due to the law passed by Congress, it took nearly 40 years and lots of studies and litigations to get the first two ramps opened and closing the "Notorious G.A.P.", making I-95, a complete highway. There is, however, still work that needs to be done, such direct access to I-295 East from I-95 South, I-276 West from I-295 West, and I-95 South and I-295 East from I-276 East as well as the building of a parallel Delaware River Turnpike Connection Bridge so that each span can carry up to 4 lanes of traffic in each direction (and also allowing continuous operation in the event a span has to be closed in an emergency).

Richard Bowley so what is the real I-95? The one in philly? Or the njtp in New Jersey?
@rwboa22
@rwboa22 4 жыл бұрын
@@thomasjcox, the I-95 in Philly is the real deal, connecting with the I-95 on the NJTP, via the I-95/PA Turnpike Interchange (I-95 Exit 40), the PA Turnpike from the old I-95 cross over to the Delaware River Turnpike Connection Bridge (with PA Turnpike Exit 358 now renumbered as I-95 Exit 42), and the Pearl Harbor Memorial Extension from the Delaware River Turnpike Connection Bridge to the NJTP at Exit 6. The old section of I-95 from the PA Turnpike to U.S. 1 in New Jersey is now I-295, which is an East-West highway in Pennsylvania and a North-South highway in New Jersey.

The Dual Configuration is such the appropiate way to enter the largest city in the country.. ..so much traffic that you literally need two highways to handle it..

IMO there was NO need to widen the 'Pike to twelve lanes south of Exit 8A. What they needed to do was upgrade US-1 ti interstate status up to NJ-18 and had I-95 'hook into' the 'Pike at Exit-9!
@joesucks8417
@joesucks8417 4 жыл бұрын
Yeh right now turnpike is only interstate basically between philly and nyc which is why. Route 1 being interstate wouldn’t be possible because there’s too many business and malls, although I think they could easily get red of lights and build overpasses and create like a free flow of 2-3 “express lanes” and 1-2 “local lanes” in which one could enter businesses on the side of the highway, wirh express lanes being an interstate. As for I-95 hooking up at exit 9, I think that was actually the original plan, except it would follow the now 295, go north to 287, and hook up at exit 10, but was struck down by lobbyists. I think ultimately tho that and the fact that converting route 1 into a bigger highway with no lights would probably be more work, is why they made it 6 lanes
@joesucks8417
@joesucks8417 4 жыл бұрын
Honestly though, I drive the portion between 7a and 9 a lot, and I like having the 6 lanes because it’s harder for state police to patrol with less traffic than north of exit 10. I think the section of road is probably the fastest in the state, it’s straight, lower traffic and basically impossible to be caught by cops unless you are really not paying any Attention. I was going 92 in the beginning of the lockdown(there was basically no traffic) but ended up getting passed by pretty much everyone else, it was on a 15 mile stretch and it was so empty it was about 20 cars that passed me

So which is the real 95? Going through Philadelphia? Or going over the Delaware memorial bridge and taking the NJTP north until exit 6 is where the PA part mixes in? Everyone had their own definition. Curious if there is any more information.
@MadChristoph
@MadChristoph 4 жыл бұрын
The real 95 is going through Philadelphia, since there was the 95/Penna Turnpike interchange where 95 hops on the Penna Turnpike and leads directly to the New Jersey Turnpike
